LOL. Its a shame your Canon sensor is the worst on the market and the lenses I use are Sigma ARTs... which are better than Canons equivalents. You keep forgetting, I dont use zooms. Hows those overpriced 35 1.4, 85 1.8 and 55 1.8 working out for you?

I love em. Much prefer primes like you. Is it just the 35 art you have it do you have any of the others?

I have the 35 ART, 50 ART, sold my Sigma 85 1.4 and 24 ART, dont use em. Im 35/50. I also have the 50g for a small setup but the ARTs are way better.

Yes. It's on the large size and probably wont interest me.

When I had Canon DSLR's I had their APS-C only 30mm f1.4 and I liked it a lot. The only thing wrong with it was that the focus ring felt gritty when focussing manually but I tried another and it was just the same so I assumed they were all like that. Good lens though and the oft reported field curvature was never a real world issue for me.

I'm sure the new Sigma will be nice but Sony already have a smaller 35mm f1.8 and what the system lacks for me is a compact 35mm equivalent lens.



Can't say that I'd be very interested in that combination.
 
TBF though, its more like...... and the lenses arent exactly equivalent. Could look at the 20 2.8 pancake, 30mm though, but tiny.

The GX7 and 17mm is what the A6000 would be replacing. Yes, the 20mm f2.8 is available but like the 30mm and 35mm it isn't ideal for me and neither is the relatively large 24mm f1.8.

I like the 35mm FoV but f2.8 is only just enough for indoor shooting as once the shutter speed is at more people shot friendly levels in the evening and under artificial light it's easy to be up in the ISO 6,400 to 10,000 territory. This is where f1.8 helps a bit.

What I'd really like are the Sony implementations of auto ISO, exposure compensation and constant preview in a MFT body or a compact 24mm f1.8 for the A6000 series. The Pen may have these or at least auto ISO and EC in manual mode but I'll need to handle one first and to be honest having a camera festooned with direct control JPEG art filter thingies doesn't appeal to me. I keep hoping that the next Panasonic will have the features I want but sadly the GX8 is disappointment for me with what some commentators are saying is only slight if any improvement in image quality (some say it's worse than the GX7 at high ISO) and still lacking the Sony features I've found so useful.

The high ISO performance of the A6000 is much better than the equivalent MFT body so shooting at 6400 isn't a major problem. Whilst a 1.8 prime would be faster than a 2.8, I don't feel like it's the end of the world for the gains in sensor/functionality and handling. I shot my A6K with the 70-200 F4 at a wedding I covered a few weeks ago and often shot at 6400 indoors. Noise reduction is pretty effective in Lightroom if need be but I applied very little.
 
Also, the image above showing the A6K with the new Sigma lens looks bigger than it actually is in real life situations. I normally walk around with the 50/1.8 lens fitted and just an index finger strap to hold it and don't notice the weight at all.

I think everyone gets hung up on overall size of these smaller csc's vs the benefits they offer. There's only so small you can make a camera before handling gets compromised. If you want smaller, shoot an RX100. If you want flexibility and a larger sensor, accept the slightly larger system.

As an A6k user, that's tiny for a fast prime and there would be no problem walking around with that all day. Ok, I wouldn't put it in my handbag but seeing as I want to take photos of the outside world instead of the inside of my jeans I reckon that's ok ;0)

Everything you say makes sense :D

I'd not be choosing between the Sigma 30mm f1.4 and the Sony 50mm f1.8, for me the choice would be between the various 30 / 35mm lenses and the Sony one does look more compact than the Sigma f1.4 but actually I'd rather have a 35mm FoV.

I'll probably hang on until I try a Pen or the next Panasonic comes out but changing to an A6000 might be possible, but I'd have to adjust to the 20mm f2.8 as my main lens.

I am liking it a lot. Never had an 85 in my bag before I've been looking at the bokeh sometimes swirly / busy also If I do what I usually do which is frame/focus/bang (can't help it always been like that) with the thin DOF I screw up as in #3 below at f1.8 where nothing is in focus- first two at f2.8
Here are a few from this afternoon - First signs of Spring.

I've seen some examples that look nice with a central subject but I wonder how an off centre subject would look if not in the centre of the bokeh. Have done any shots like that? Would be interested in your thoughts on the look with off centre subjects.

I really prefer the Zeiss packaging and lens design, feels really solid, 3 years warranty is great too, just ensure you register it ASAP. :)

Looks like she is sulking upstairs so I'll open boxes after dinner. Boxes will need to be hidden and hidden well. Maybe in the shed or garage.
She has started to google stuff.
When I first bought a d810 before we were engaged she was outraged at the price I paid. Her: "That could have gone towards my ring".
Me: "and then I wouldn't have the camera."
