The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Yep its under ndc but there is a significant rumour building.........

Seems a bit odd, the way they still sell the old A7 which is cheap then want to introduce yet ANOTHER entry model. One day Sony will learn its not the amount of camera bodies that count.

I'm not sure yet if it is a full frame alternative it maybe aspc etc will know within the next 24hours

yeah might possibly be mate I cant determine yet but should know by later this evening :-) I think your right about the original a7 being cheap enough a new budget full frame would have to be at a very low price point to make sense and then its not really a option I wouldn't have thought

It doesnt make sense to release an even lesser model, if its an A7iii it will drive the A7 and A7ii price down, so they are effectively creating the "A5" market (while stocks last).

There's loads of cheap lenses. 55 28 35. Whats missing bro?

That is loads, my mistake. We have a £520 slow 35mm, a very good 55mm but its £620 and the only lens there that is what I said Sony needs is the 28 F2, which is reasonable at £299. And you ask whats missing :ROFLMAO:

What would you like to he released?

The basics..... other than the 28/2, a 35/1.8, 50/1.8, 85/1.8 NON ZEISS OR GM price tags. These are the easiest lenses to make, every manufacturer has them yet Sony feels the need to shove only high end glass at its customers arguing they are going after quality...... er hang on, you have a couple of the cheapest FF bodies on the market with 24mp sensors that wont even tax a modern lens

^^ Beat me to it!

I think he's already said. More realistically priced FF lenses such as a 50/1.8 that competes with CaNikon along with a 35/1.8 and maybe an 85/1.8. Paying £620 for a 55mm 1.8 is bordering on ridiculous no matter how good it is. I've got the APSC 50/1.8 on my A6K and results it delivers are excellent and that's nearer £100!

Not everyone is loaded so will spend nearly £1k on what should be bread and butter focal lengths.

Thoughts on the new batis 85mm?

In reply to your DPreview post, play with them all before you go away and see what you prefer, for me id use a Zoom and not change the lens due to the dust magnet LOL...
Which 24-70 zoom the new 2.8 or the old F4 ?

Brilliant fair enough lads. I agree fully!

24-70 canon f2.8 mk2

I do complain about the lack of a compact 35mm f1.8 but if I was being more sensible I wouldn't say that f2.8 is slow, I think that f2.8 maybe just about enough :D

I think it does if they can get the manufacturing cost down enough. Currently the original A7 is sitting in the budget position and I'm not sure how much it costs to make, but if they designed a genuinely low end body (maybe even as extreme as an a5000 style body) they could probably knock £100-150 off the price and have a full frame camera out there for half the price of anyone else while still making money on it. Who knows what they'll do lately, they seem to have plugged most of their leaks.

Yes they could but the main problem is Sony aren't making any low-end "budget" lenses to go with the cheaper bodies.

Maybe a full frame no viewfinder camera similar to the RX series but with interchangable lenses?

True, but a lot of people don't look at lens prices before buying a camera. All part of Son'y evil plan!

Fair point though. Probably the 28mm and 28-70mm are the only lenses so far that I'd call cheap. If they're interested in the low end of things, a budget 50/2 and 70-300 would be welcome.

Just a quick update on my Meike battery grip. I sent it back.

Reason was the second battery percentage stopped showing. Not exactly a big issue (it still showed the second battery, just not the percentage remaining) but it left a worry in the back of my mind thinking what else this could effect.

The reason I bought this was because the A7ii is slightly small in my hands and I wanted more grip (wasn't worried about battery life). So I ordered a L-plate to try. I was seriously tempted to buy the Really Right Stuff extortionate version ($175 from memory), but asking another $40 to ship was just ridiculous. So I ordered a cheap one from eBay (neewer) and so glad I did.

It fits perfect, really nice quality, all of the doors on camera open with it fitted, gives just enough extra grip to get my little finger onto it and protects two sides on the camera. As I use a ballhead I think this will be really useful. Looks nice as well :)

I also sent the Commlite EF adapter back. The fit between the lens and adapter was really tight. Too tight for comfort.
Think I'll wait and see how the new Sigma version performs as the main reason I want an adapter is to use the Missus's Sigma 150-600 when it arrives.

Wot-e-sed...

"How he sees the future of photography:
Still and Video world will continue to get closer. And Sony will continue to improve dynamic range and High ISO performance.
  1. Touchscreen:
It’s yet not Sony’s priority to add touch screen. Sony wants to improve other “areas” first.
  2. Why the A6300 has no on sensor stabilization:
Sony wanted to make the A6300 as compact as it gets. And on sensor stabilization would have made the body bigger.
  3. About 2016:
The A7rII was the highlight of 2015. And Yutuka adds: “but 2016 will be even more impressive!
  4. A-mount future:
Yutuka says there are two reason to keep A-mount:
The first is that the A-mount has certain advantages over the E mount and, for now, we can not have all the same functionalities between A and E mount.
The second reason is that they “we have many customers that we can not give up. It is a promise to our customers.
:D

2016 will be even more impressive? Bring it on...

2016..... will we see a A9 body or A7III? :)

Think this only works with Sigma lenses at present? I haven't seen anything to suggest it has firmware supporting Canon L glass anyway. If it does then it's really interesting.
Even just for sigma lenses that is a big thing. Art users can rejoice then

yep sigma art 35 and 50m owner here for just the art if it works with all the focus options well on independent reviews I will purchase

Took a few shots today with my Batis 85mm, really impressed by the output, doubt I will go for the 85mm GM :)

Had you actually considered buying the Batis then buying the GM as well to replace it?
I've had the Batis on order since the beginning of the year, was thinking of cancelling the order as some have been waiting since last year but both mine came in less than 2 months.
The Sony 85mm GM was unveiled after I placed my Batis order so I was thinking if I could justify the extra £700 over the Batis.
The Batis is a stellar lens, and is also backed by Zeiss quality including 3 years warranty.

Ah cool. I've seen Steve Huff's glowing report about the GM but a £700 increase over the Zeiss for the same focal length is a seriously big margin!

This is big news and no wonder why sigma aint releasing any E mount lenses

That is BIG. Pretty obvious that this would be the case - little reason for Sigma to develop it unless they were doing something special with their own lenses - but awesome to see it confirmed.

I've considered adapting Canon lenses before, but the AF system of the Sony cameras is one of the biggest benefits to me, and without that you might as well just put the lens on a DSLR instead. Same reason why I got rid of the Sony 135mm f1.8 which I otherwise loved. Now when are we going to see a 135mm Art lens...
