The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Realistically when do you think these will be in the shops...........i will be back in the UK for a wee holiday at the end of August and it would be great to have one of these along with the new Baits lenses for my holiday :)

Dunno. Hopefully someone does :D

I keep looking at the 85mm Batis but it's still down as pre order.

I suppose we'll soon know how much it is.

Is the A7rII higher spec than a Canon 5DIII? They're about £2,250 and a Nikon D810 is £2,350 (both at Wex) and I'd rather have the CSC A7rII if it's anywhere near that sort of price. I hope Sony price it aggressively and shock us all, shock us in a nice way :D

I think they will shock you the wrong end of the scale Alan but rest assured you will need plenty lube!!

If we look purely at megapixels then it probably is at least equal to a D810 or 5DIII but there going to be seen things that the Nikon and Canon do better which would make them considered as higher spec, AF for one thing.

There does seem to be a huge premium price wise on mirror less I guess due to its size v specification when compared to the DSLR competition.

Its still less than 1/2 the price of a Leica M so to me until it gets up around the 6k mark its frigging cheap..............also going on the speck and with the ability to shoot in AF its 10 time better than a Leica M :)
If the UK price hits 3k it would be better for say 3 of you get together and hold a raffle and then then winner pops over to New York for a weekend and picks up three bodies :) :) :) :)

The a7r2 could replace a 5d3 easily imo. I am getting use to the af system on it now (a7s) and can now focus nearly as fast as my 5d3.

I wanna see what the iso performance is on the a7r2 and if it's at least just half a stop less or smaller then the a7s I'll sell my a7s for one

Stunning evening here in Wiltshire, new bypass built but not open yet, nice and quiet!

I really should not have checked the details on your poppy pic. I was Lusting after the 55mm f1.8 and that pic combined with a 10% off eBay paypal voucher might just tip me over the edge. Oh and also get me kicked out of the house by my wife!

It's an excellent lens and the reports of its sharpness are not overstated. Sharpness isn't everything of course but if looking for optical nasties there's precious little to find with this lens.

You'd expect centre performance to be pretty good and it is but the surprise to me was looking into the edges and corners, it is IMVHO an outstanding lens.

You really should get one :D Have it sent to a friends home and pick it up from there :D

Time will tell. I an putting that lens to its paces here in NYC

wheres that? i live in wiltshire too

Hilperton (just outside Trowbridge), the road is about a minute from my house, never walked down there until last night though.

Pre-orders for the A7RII open in just over 48hrs in the UK, so somewhat odd that they've only announced a US price so far.

Tempting, I have to say. The A7II and A77II would go a fair way to funding it!

I'm tempted to sell my A7 for a A7R II.
Would like to see how good the AF really is compared to the A6000 and DSLR equivalents.

I've told myself I'll wait until Xmas before buying it. As the price is going to come down. Can I wait? I honestly don't know.

Let me know how much you want for your 70-400 ;)

I like the idea of the silent shutter and IBIS but I don't need the massive files but would probably want to keep the full res raw's so I suppose I'd have to downsize the JPEG's.

The best course for me would be to wait until the A7 gets a silent shutter, but by that time it'll probably be 100mp :D

Why u don't like the big files? Allows you to crop for fun mate.

Yes, it's amazing how much I can crop even my 16mp MFT files but when viewing on screen or sharing electronically 2000 pixies wide is overkill. I like to keep the raw's just in case I want a full sized file to lust over or print but I'm beginning to think that having a pc full of full sized JPEG's is just a waste of space.

I only store full size raw's. The rest are jpg compressed

To date most of my pictures are full sized raw's and full sized JPEG's with some monster sized Tiff's too.

I've been sharing a lot of 2000 wide pictures in the past couple of years saved from PS at quality 10 rather than 12 (for whatever difference it makes) and the pictures seem perfectly ok so it's got me thinking about saving 2000 wide (maybe at quality 12 though) as a matter of course. I can't be bothered with going back in time and downsizing everything as I'll have died and the earth will have spiralled into the Sun before I finish.

In some ways the AF on Canon/Nikon DSLRs is higher spec - for speed and tracking they'll probably still be ahead of the A7RII, but their AF systems are lower spec in other ways. They're still limited to a tiny diamond of AF points in the centre of the frame, can't find and lock onto eyes, and still suffer from back/front focus issues, AF microadjusting and all that nonsense. One gives you speed, the other finesse. Which is higher spec depends on your specific needs.

Agreed.

Indeed, couldn't have put it better myself. Focus errors are very, very, few and far between since moving to mirrorless, and I don't have the nagging doubt about my camera/lens combo being a couple of points out on the micro adjust scale. For me personally (Fuji and Sony) it's been far more accurate, and it's only in fairly extreme circumstances where it's been appreciably slower (this is coming from somebody who has shot weddings, motorsport and airshows with Fuji X gear).

I wouldn't go back to conventional DSLR AF for my general shooting, much like I couldn't imagine for a second using an OVF again.

Judging by the first video the AF with non native Canon lenses is improved but its definitely not fast, hes picking out high contrast areas and it still takes a bit of time to lock and it doesnt always lock... and thats in good light. I am impressed though as its a non native lens and things will only get better as they improve the system over time.

Not seen anything yet, my email is usually filled with info from Calumet, WEX, etc ahead of a pre-order like this!

It is weird, particularly given that pre-orders open tomorrow afternoon.

Damm @ £2600, guess it was wishful thinking that it would be around £2000 :)

£2,600? Could have been worse.

The price may drop in a few months to a year and it'll be interesting to see what the price will be from people like Digital Review.
