The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

New York plus a a7s hehe.

f*** the UK and it's dodgy weather! New York so amazing and a great playground to see how far your a7 type camera can go

Ah! You cad! Enjoy your trip but it's actually been a very sunny, hot and even humid day in northern England :D

I'm off to Thailand for a wedding in August and I might even take the 28-70mm.

A7RII is an absolute beast. Getting ever closer to A-FE integration with the news that the A7RII won't even need the LA-EA4 to AF with A mount lenses, only the LA-EA3 (which is basically just a mount converter).

Would have been even better fitted with an F mount :D

According to the DPReview staff in the comments of their A7RII posts, AF for Canon glass with Metabones adapters is seriously impressive. Sony are even demoing it with an adaptor and Canon 24-70.

I wonder what tracking will be like? It doesn't bother me but it's a stick DSLR users use to beat CSC's.

Wow, some serious specs on that A7rII

Not remotely in my price range, but I still drool :p

I've just posted this elsewhere too but the 1DX and D4S are both £4400 for the body. I'm sure Sony are pitching the A7Rii as their top of the line mirrorless body so are actually listing it over a grand cheaper than the top of the line from CaNikon.

Whilst in reality there are lots of reasons to shoot the top of the line CaNikon (least of which lens selection), the Sony kit is certainly turning heads because they actually seem to care about introducing new features to the market even if nobody actually 'needs' them all.

Don't get me wrong the new specs look great but don't get ahead of yourself, Sony are world's apart from Canikon where it matters...lenses.

Yup but even so there are lenses in the Canon line up that are less than stellar, great range and choice from them though but the A7 system is new and I'm sure I read somewhere today that there are going to be 8 new lenses coming? But even at that rate it'll take a loooooong time to match what's available from Canon and Nikon, if ever. Sony should be able to give these two a very good fight for image quality if not for the number of native lenses available.

Fully agree;

"Whilst in reality there are lots of reasons to shoot the top of the line CaNikon (least of which lens selection)"

Canon have been making EF lenses since 1987 so they've got a fair few years on Sony. I used to shoot Canon until a few years ago but am still waiting for them to bring something different to the market.

True, but the new AF points on the A7R2 means native level performance from adapted lenses.

The body is pretty heavy though, approaching D750 levels!

I'll be upgrading.

My recently acquired A7R and Loxia 50 are settling in nicely. The A7RII looks to be a decent upgrade and will definitely be on my radar for when the prices settle down.

This is just about everything I wanted in a camera. If it's even half as good in person as it sounds on paper Sony have a real game changer on their hands. Unfortunately other expenditure commitments means I won't be able to get one until some time next year. But still, wow.

Not to bad, gives time for any issues to be ironed out, a few good reviews and price to settle.

A Loxia 85 would do it for me. By the end of the year?

Gotta be AF for me so not quite as soon as that, probs next year if the lenses are there. Maybe some Sony Gs, 35, 50, 85 1.8s but I do like f1.4 lenses and they are big so we'll see.

Have they commented on the half metal/ half plastic lens mount ring that people had to upgrade, will that be beefed up?

According to Sony's recent presentation to investors, 8 more by early 2016, plus whatever else Zeiss comes out with by then. After getting the 85mm, the only thing I can see myself still wanting is a decently fast prime in the 135mm range. Obviously needs vary by person though so hopefully others get what they're after, too.

Still, if the initial reports of AF performance with metabones adapters turn out to be true, Canon might be a solid lens supplier for those with niche requirements. Imagine that - Sony producing the best camera for EF lenses, and Canon being the most diverse supplier for E mount!

Although the top of the range in price, the D4S and 1DX are more of a sports / wildlife type cameras. The A7Rii is probably more likely matched to the D810 and the newer Canon 5D (S&R ?).

Looking at Camera PriceBuster the A7R was released at a price of £1700 or so, if I'm reading their graph probably. So hopefully the camera when released here, will be more like 2k or so and not the the £3200 mentioned above, if we use the dollar vs pound as a pricing point for the UK.

Looks like a very nice spec camera and with the adpaters, the 8 lenses for 2016 it's moving along nicely for Sony. Although not FF, it will be interesting what Fuji come out with in the XP2, XT2 etc...... as a CSC they are probably Sony's biggets rivals in the CSC market?

There might be a very good reason for Sony lens support being much worse than the big two @jonneymendoza but you have to accept that it is the case. Although the new PDAF and adapters could solve this argument.

The a7rii is definitely on my list of things to buy now.

Do you guys know if there will be an AF speed improvement with adapters such as Metabones with the new on sensor phase detect?

U.S. list price for the A7R was $2299, so $3200 suggests considerably higher that £2K for the A7R II in the UK.

Let me rephrase. How long have canikon current mount lenses been in business vs Sony e mount

Sony have been building their own DSLRs for about 10 years with A mount. Current A mount users still complain about the lack of newer AF lenses even after 10 years. If Sony follow this trend with E mount, then A7 users stand to remain frustrated in years to come. By comparison Fuji X mount, was launched in 2012 with the Xpro1. The system has grown massively in just 3 years with a great number of high quality and well priced lenses with bodies to suit everyones budget. We haven't seen anywhere near the same level of commitment from Sony and i also don't trust that in a few years time they'll have another line of cameras with a totally different mount on the go. Let's hope that news of 8 new lenses this year is a sign of better commitment to the FE system.

Thanks for that.

So looking at the UK launch price of £1700, Sony allowed for the exchange rate, which works out at approx £1.352 against the Dollar at the time (if my maths are correct)........... If they use the same logic this time with the A7Rii the UK price would be £2366 using the same rate as the A7R launch price. Using todays rate of £1.55 the figure would be £2064. ( Again if my maths are right).

Using Twist price of £2400 for the A7S, it will be interesting to see where they pitch this. Is the A7R the premier model in Sony's range or the A7S??

Also, looking at CPB for the A7S, the initial price went crazy, are they that reliable? > http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/Sony/Sony-NEX-Cameras/Sony-Alpha-A7s-Body

A7S launch price was 2499 USD, making the UK £2400 price a bit steep!

Suspect the A7Rii would struggle if launched at £3000 but the price for Sony bodies seems to fall dramatically after launch.
