The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

So I think I have settled on the A7iii, the Nikon offering is OK but going to make the jump from a d750. Any likelihood of the price coming down anytime soon?

£1745 at Panamoz seems to be the best bet.

I don't think it will come down for a while - I don't think Sony will feel they need too!

Unlikely given its recent release and the fact Nikon have priced their body more, yet offering generally less interns of spec.
Shop around as I’m sure you can get it cheaper than the £1999 RRP.

Good choice by the way, you won’t be disappointed.

@Cagey75 This is stupid cheap mate.....

£719 less 150 cash back = 570 for the kit, sell the lens if you want and its £420 body only!!

I'd still have to sell some gear, and then try sell that lens on top. The used market over here seems to have hit a stand still, I have a lens up with 5 watching for the past few weeks and nobody making a move. Was a time I could stick a lens up on there and it would be gone within 2-3 days. If I did end up going Sony I'd probably stretch to the mkII and a nice prime. But cheers for the head's up ;)

Used market is slow here.

MPB have offered £1415 for my Nikon 70-200. No way will I get that on here!

And mpb seem to be taking their own sweet time to settle the payment. They have had my item for 7 days now with not a reply yet about the progress of the item. See the mpb woes thread for more stories :P

@nandbytes given the position of the building, your stuff will have rolled to the right hand side!!! or its delivered to the left hand side, and the employees can't make the steep hill up from the entrance to review it :D:D:D:D

honestly not in the mood for jokes. Sorry but I am waiting on nearly £2K with no comms, they don't answer their phone, don't tell me where things are, no ETA and no money. :(

The slope is much worse in that picture than in real life lol

The last 4 lenses and camera body I sold had nothing but paltry bids on this website - sometimes I think selling to camera enthusiasts just makes things harder, as they state the "this guy sold his thing for £xxx less than you here, so sell it to me for below that price!" nonsense. I've gotten 20-30% higher sale prices by selling face to face on Gumtree - and it's nice meeting up with other camera enthusiasts. I much prefer it!

Case and point, sold my 55/1.8 FE for ~£620, which is ridiculous. Highest bid here was £470. I can't complain! :)

I was in a similar position to you last Monday. Overdue confirmation from MBP that what I had sent them was in good order and can I have my £2k+ money asap. I sent them a quick polite email asking for an update as I seemed to be waiting longer than expected. I had 2 emails back apologising within minutes and all my stuff was not only inspected immediately but they made payment the same afternoon.

Ive had that, a gentle nudge has always helped.

You get low ball offers on local used sites too though. They use the ol' "I can get this for just a little more from China" BS, so you tell them fine, go buy it there then, next thing they come back with a slightly higher offer :D

I love meeting up with buyers or sellers too, always ends up being a good chit chat, either I learn something from them [I've sold to many pro photographers in the past] or they learn from me, often sold to complete beginners too. I have a good clean record on the site I use too over 60 odd sales, I've had repeat buyers too that came back for more because the gear was better than described.

Has anyone ever had a decent quote from mpb? Whenever I’ve contacted them they have always been miles away from what I could from from eBay or even on here.

Nope. I've only ever agreed to one trade, I couldn't sell it elsewhere and needed the funds to buy something else asap. So it was a bit of desperation that had me agree to their low ball offer. All other dealings with them were just straight purchases.

Why would you think they would buy from you for private prices. They are a business with costs to cover. Always been okay for me, you dont have to sell to them.

I've always had good quotes from them and have sold a number of lenses to them and a couple of cameras in the past. The longest I have waited in the past around a week to hear back, but just accepted at the time that that was how long it took. They've always given me the figure quoted based on the description given, except once when they actually paid me an extra £15. So personally I haven't been able to fault them.

Yeah, of course - but I find it easier to sell my stuff to people face to face, as my gear is normally in excellent nick. People normally lowball stating they've seen other lenses (normally in much worse nick) for cheaper. Not the same, imo!

But yeah, it's always good meeting buyers - in fact, i've had a few come back to me years later asking if I've got anything to sell! :D

Just amazed people would let their gear sell at giveaway prices when so many other options available.

Not always, Id rather sell to them (Incl collection) than for a couple % more here at times.

Hence going back to what my question was: getting decent quotes.
My experience has been that they would always reply within a day but it would be, in most cases hundreds less than what I could get elsewhere.
Looks like I’ve just been unlucky with them.

Cheers.

Reputation is everything when it comes to selling used. The site i use has a system a bit like here or ebay, but better and clearer IMO. Your feedback score is clearly displayed on all of your adverts, with negatives highlighted in red. I'll be wary of any buyer or seller on there with more than a couple of negatives, and you can click on their score to see those negative feedback posts. I've seen some there with 5 positive, 7 negative for example, and it's not easy to get a negative score. I have about 60 sales all positive. I have noticed that as your rep goes up, people are less likely to try low ball or haggle, my last few sales were straight forward offers on the asking price with no squabbles.

£1415 for my Nikon 70-200. £850 for D750.

I reckon I can get more for the D750 but with grey prices of the Nikon falling I doubt anyone will make an offer that’s worth it on the 70-200. With box and case etc it came in over 2kg so insured postage is high too!

Probably spot on for a used 750 tbh considering grey price is around a grand. Cracking camera though.

Have 6 batteries so that’s another £15 each I reckon. Be more cost effective selling them separately!

+1, you're not going to get more here. Maybe slightly more on Ebay if you sell on the £1 deal but more hassle. Not worth it, send to mpb imo.

Agree on that.

@JJ! Just make sure whatever you replace it with is the bollards. Doubt you’ll find anything close to a D750 at anywhere near £850.

yes a few decent quotes actually. But this is the first time I have used them. Hopefully we'll get it sorted soon.

Obviously I can get better price going via. ebay. But that's more hassle and involves waiting for a £1 offer (which I might as well have done since I haven't got paid yet!)
