The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

A question purely out of 'interest/curiosity'. What is it that makes Canon lenses more easily adapted to Sony than Nikon? Or is it purely that Canon have the lion's share and no-one's willing to invest time into Nikon adapters?

Its because of the mechanical aperture.

@dancook the Sony Zeiss 35mm f2.8 is very compact and worth a try. Paired with the Sony Zeiss 55mm f1.8 it’s a good little setup.

Sorry for being a numpty, but are you saying that Nikon are mechanically controlled and Canony are electronically controlled?

Yes, Nikons have an aperture lever on the back of the lens, Canon doesn't.

Won’t be as tiny though. For the price of the samyang it’s rude not too.

Besides, how much room you got left in the cabinet? ;)

Still got room for...

Sony Zeiss FE 35mm f2.8 / 1.8
Sony Zeiss FE 35mm f1.4 / G Master
Sony Zeiss FE 50mm f1.4 / G Master
Sony FE 90mm f2.8 G Macro
Sony FE 135mm f1.8 G Master
Sony FE 100-400mm G Master

Another Sony body :D

Great, thanks. I'm getting my knickers in a knot about nothing actually as a 18-105 on an A7x would be basically the same as an 18-105 on a A6300 wouldn't it (ie a sensible walkabout).

Great responses Gents - thanks again! Will need to examine piggy bank now and ponder :)
I've an 18-105 f4 for sale lol

I'd probably buy a 35mm f1.8 if it was nice and compact but to be honest although I hope we see one I just can't see it happening as there'll be optical compromises and these days all people seem to want to see is near enough perfect lenses with lovely bokey which will more than likely mean that any 35mm f1.8 is at least the size of the 28mm f2/55mm f1.8 which although compactish are on the long side of what I'd say was truly compact. That'll have to do though I suppose.

35mm f2.8 v 28mm f2 v 55mm f1.8.

Also, in addition to the other responses, some Nikon lenses don’t have focus motors built in and are controlled by the body.

Take up knitting and join a forum.

Second thoughts forget about the knitting forum, you'll probably find Riz & Jonny banging on about G master needles and mirrorless patterns etc! :)

Oooo need some new socks! Ill knit you lot some 2 fingered gloves.

They can do 20 stitches a second.

Would love too buy one, but if I do and the CAF is disappointing I will have to do a @rookies and sell it all again!

Try it out first and wait for the YouTube A7 III vs D750 comparisons.

When most compared the Sony A9 with both the Canon 1D X Mark II and Nikon D5 I knew it was gonna be something to look at.
Then I tested it in store and that was that, sold all of my Fuji gear and moved back to Sony :)
