The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Not checked any of the Sony’s we have 7 bodies at the moment so that limits them getting very high.

Never checked mine but can imagine they're quite high now. They're also starting to wear down to bare metal in places on the camera body and will be even more worn out by the time 2021 is done!

Maybe not if the rumours about lockdown by end of August have any truth to them.

Yep, several predictions about more spikes, hospital cases rising, yet the government won’t even keep mask wearing mandatory  Nobody wants to wear them but I’d rather do that than risk another lockdown.

I will continue to wear a protective (FFP2) mask in public places, and work continues to require mask wearing on company premises.

I hope not from a business point of view, I’ve just gone full time with no fall back option. I’ll also probably miss out on any financial help as I haven’t received a single SEISS grant

On C19 stuff.

I read some interesting C19 stats yesterday from an independent reporter commenting on a BBC article. NHS stats reportedly show deaths at very low levels month after month and low hospital admissions too. The big stat seems to be positive tests but a high percentage may be false positives and the UK is anyway apparently testing way more than anyone else, more than the rest of europe combined maybe? Other stats referenced the tracing ap and the number of people pinged v the number testing positive. Children in my wider family have been sent home from school multiple times but have never displayed any symptoms. It's perhaps just about impossible for an ordinary person to make assumptions and decisions based on all this contradictory information as how can we know? Generally I don't buy into conspiracy theories and panics but at the moment the deaths and admissions recorded by the NHS (and as reported by some trawling through NHS databases) do not seem to indicate the coming tsunami that the media presents us with based on the number of positive tests and the ping machine going into meltdown. If this may be more scaremongering doom and gloom than is really required or we're in for a big wave I can't say. Who is right? Time will tell and I suppose I and mine are quite lucky as no one in my household works and Mrs WW has finished school for now so we can distance ourselves and see what happens.

Stay safe and well everyone.

It looks pretty nailed on now unfortunately. Not sure if we will see full lockdown again but it’s looks pretty certain that we will all be looking at events being impacted with restrictions, unfortunately that will likely include weddings. What that looks like, who knows. Thankfully last couple of months have been extremely busy for us so we have been able to make hay while the sun has shined.

Well I'm back in the Sony Camp after a year shooting (or rather not doing much) with Fuji; picked up a practically brand new A7R3; I can't believe the amount and low cost of a lot of the FE mount glass now!

Low cost? You need to point me in the direction of that ;):p

Quite agree. The info we cannot seem to get is how many of the deaths involve un-inoculated people. We have to learn to live with this. Mankind hasn’t yet managed to totally eradicate any virus.

OK; relatively! But compared to other systems being able to grab something like the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 for £500 used is a bargain; my favoured primes (ok manual Loxia) the 35mm is
:jawdrop: You spent a WHOLE 12 MONTHS with one make ?

To be fair I had been using Fuji for a couple of years now!

Also to be fair, I just realised as I wrote that ... I have a Canon M5, 7DMKII, Pentax K-1 and Sony A9 in the cupboard
And I'm still looking at the R5 and waiting for the R3

Haha! I've massively toned down my equipment chopping and changing although largely because I've done little shooting in the last 2 years (mix of COVID lockdown and work before that).
Started doing some product stuff and feel like full-frame / extra image size would be helpful v the Fuji - also I keep looking back at shots I took with the A7R3 and the detail is just incredible!

It’s on the government website it’s was sitting at around 48% vaccinated last week.

Smallpox? (discounting the ones in the lab, obviously)

edit - it seems you answered that one, and funny how you also talked about keeping them in the lab and used that as an answer lol

Sitting here in the sunshine with all the symptoms of Covid but actually just a summer cold - that's lasted over a week and I still feel like poop!!
Apparently this summer cold is mimicking Covid.
Clever things these germs
Been self isolating and the Covid test came back positive - PHEW!!

I’ve been thinking of swapping my Sony 24-105 for the tamron 17-28 to compliment the tamron 28-200 I already have so I can create a light weight landscape system (2 lenses covering 17-200mm).

I’ve contacted Kase as I have a set of their wolverine magnetic filters which I’ve found to be great. Kase UK can order the kits in 67mm as a special order. That’s great to know their wolverine magnetic filters are available in 67mm even if it’s special order. Having spoke to them further on messenger there may be a vignette issue if stacking filters. anyone know how well they work with those lenses? I’m tempted to get a 67-77mm adapter but I’d like to still use lens hoods if possible.

RAMBLINGS OF A MADMAN
While sitting in the sunshine suffering with COVID like symptoms, (Tested negative) I have let my mind wander over my current setup of a7R3, a7c & a6600
I enjoy each one of the camera bodies but then I got to thinking how well my APSC lenses work on the a7R3 - which also got me thinking, if I had the a7RIV I could have the best of both worlds, APSC at 26mp rather than the 24mp of the a6600 and the better AF of the R4, basically 2 cameras in 1.
This would cut me down to 2 bodies with the a7c for the travelling light occasions.
My a7c kit would consist of Sony 20mm f1.8, 28-60 kit lens and 70-200 f4 so I'd maybe miss the reach of the 70-350G I use on my a6600 when travelling light
Anyone anything else to add??

Positive? Is that a typo?

Personally I think you would be best to cut down to two cameras by selling the A7C.

Coincidentally I'm thinking of buying an A7C ;)

Selfishness aside though it sound like a reasonable plan providing you can live without the 70-350 reach. A quick look through your catalogue will give a better idea of how often you make use of it. Or even easier you can upload your LR catalogue to here > https://www.lightroomdashboard.com/app#/load and it will give you all sorts of stats.

I use the 70-350G quite a lot for wildlife and landscapes.
Suppose I could always use the a7c in APSC mode ar 10mp.
Afterall, 10mp was acceptable back in my early days as a Canon shooter

Although I have a 24-70 f4 Sony Zeiss on my A7C, it does balance better with primes.

NEGATIVE!!!!
I was typing this and listening to the wife talking about a work colleague that has tested positive at the same time and I typed positive instead of negative.
Well spotted :D
Had me worried for a mo as i though I would need to isolate .

Rob.

I once found a good way to isolate when I was minding my own business at an airport waiting for my connecting flight and an American came up and tried to initiate a conversation with me. I suppose he was just bored but I really wasn't interested so when he persisted even after I took a book out of my bag and stared at it I put it down and started talking about God and quoting passages from the bible. He was gone in no time.

I have thought about changing all my Canon lenses for the Sony equivalent but that would mean selling my 7D MKII and M5 which I'm not ready to do yet. Besides, they all work so well on the A9 with the Sigma adapter. I can see the only native lens I will buy for the moment is something for wildlife which is lighter than my current 150-600mm sport.

Few macro shots from the garden (can't be bothered to go futher afield and fight with the traffic) with the A9 and Canon 100mm L

If anything I think my old Canon 400mm f/5.6L works better on the A9 than the 7D MKII
