The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

@f/2.8 - I believe last year you were saying you knew some folks who bought from e-inifinity and they were having troubles claiming on warranty.
Recently a good acquaintance of mine bought a lens from (think it was a samyang lol) and its decentered (surprising I know). e-inifinity are claiming its within manufacturer tolerance because it has passed their QC and they will not replace it.
So just wondering what his options are.... did the folks you know get anywhere with their warranty claims?

That was a fair while back, from memory they didn't get anywhere with them.

Although to be fair I have seen other people post on here saying that they have had returns and refunds etc. with them since then.

Even if he keeps the lens it's not good tbh. The left side complete mush. Think he has A7Rii, he could crop down a bit lol.

Or have it repaired with the refund money.

Saying that, I wonder what samyangs repair service is like. Anyone had one long enough to try?

I take it it's gone past the 14 days no quibble return?
Yes, think it's just over not sure by how much. He assumed there will be a 30days faulty replacement.

He isn't particularly "technical". His email started off with "hey, how do get my lens to look sharp at both sides. Peaking tells me it should be sharp but it's not. Is my camera broken?"

Nope, one of the many 24mm's I returned was to Amazon they offered to send it for repair but suggested turn around time was 8-12 weeks so they agreed to refund instead and that lens was 5 months old.

Intro2020 now fix samyang lenses in the UK if you have warranty. They don't take as long under normal circumstances but not sure during lockdown

I wonder if your friends lens wasn't a Samyang would they be more open to sorting them out. They probably get loads returned.

I can remember way back Panamoz refusing to accept returns of Sigma Art lenses due to focus issues as there was so many affected.

That's sad.
He has paid with a debit card also

Looks like he's paid with debit card

Might be the case. The issue is you never find out till it hits you :(

Was looking at tamron 70-180mm dpreview TV's review and found this bit interesting (links to the part @5:45) -

Basically looks like lens may be designed to take some kind of TC as there is space behind rear element and it doesn't move.
I do wonder if Sony ones will fit now....

Also looks like this lens can do 0.5x magnification at 70mm in MF. Interesting...

I've just been checking the close focusing of all my FF lenses and seeing how big they can get a subject. The Sigma 50mm f2.8 macro is 1:1 so there was no point including that but of my non macro FF lenses the Sony 35mm f1.8 allows the most magnification followed by the Miranda 24mm f2.8 "macro" in FD fit and third is the Nikon Nikkor-S Auto 35mm f2.8, fourth is the Olympus Zuiko 35mm f2.8.

That was interesting :D

Bluebell bud, stacked in Zerene. Sony A6000 with Sony 90mm Macro and Meike extension tubes. I'm loving my new obsession, it's how I can look busy for over an hour and only produce one image!
Just a thought, is A6000 stuff included in this thread?

Of course. Lots of people have an interest in both the FF and APS-C lines. A6xxx talk and pictures are very welcome here as far as I'm concerned.

You say stacked, how many pictures?

PS.
I think the A6xxx series was mentioned in the thread title at one time but I think I ran out of characters.

Yeah that probably didn’t help their cause

There's a Sony 35mm f1.8 fe in the for sale section, no box, £400.

The thread title says ‘anything else welcome’ so I think this thread can cover absolutely anything! At least the A6000 is a Sony camera.

Nice photo may the way, I wasn’t thinking it was a blue bell bud when I first saw it.

What I had in mind was anything Sony or perhaps anything affecting the Sonyiverse including the odd tangent off to talk about the competition as that's relevant to if we buy Sony or not. If things go too far off someone tends to report it to the mods and they sometimes come in and do a clean up.

I haven't tried to check but the news said our council has closed all its parks.

Any of ours with an ungated playground are closed. Where the playground can be separately closed off, the parks have remained open.

We're quite lucky in Norwich as there's a large woodland area just on the edge of the city centre, about 2 mins from our house and there's quite a few large parks dotted around the city. But our routine at the moment is anything but normal.

There seems to be great excitement about the upcoming new Canon but is leaking of information a genuine tease of a genuine step forward product or desperate attempt to stop the disgruntled from buying something not Canon until Canon can release something that is a step forward. I suppose time will tell.

I'm happy enough with my lowly A7 :D

My local park (Barrow-In-Furness) has been a godsend in the current situation. Looking beautiful at the moment too. (phone shots)

I thought I was coping quite well but I'm getting a bit of cabin fever now and the films and series on Netflix and Amazon seem mostly garbage :(

I'm at work as normal (Royal Mail) so only really missing freedom of my usual beach walks and and photography.

I've started growing a beard, it's a very good way to spend my time and it's opened up new vistas.....

I could shave 6 times a day so the one daily hack at it isn't much fun. I'm waiting for some cordless hair clippers now.

The rumor site reports camera shipments are down 58% in March.

Oh dear.
Its not surprising really when all this is going on. I’m not sure if there are many out there who would be thinking of purchasing cameras when people are losing jobs, being furloughed or at risk of either. It’s not like you can really get out to use a camera at present anyway. I’m surprised it isn’t lower.

Things looked grim before this. I suppose it's surprising manufacturers stay in the camera business.

I wouldn't ring my last place :D but I did have a quick look at their website and they have a statement saying they don't expect to be greatly impacted by c19 which I suppose is good as they manufacture a range of products and components which will be keeping other manufacturers going.
