The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

The view out the back door. I just picked the camera with Voigtlander 35mm up and silly me took no notice of the setting so this ended up at f1.4.

A more sensible f5.6. She's explaining something here. To you single guys, this is something wives do.

She's very conscientious with the plants :D

The lawns need cutting but I'll leave it a couple more days as I'm enjoying the dandelions and daises :D

These are very cute.
Could go to my local park in the morning to find these. But I am not sure what the rules are for venturing into the park with a massive lens. Would it count as daily exercise?

Not what the 100-400mm was designed for I'm sure, but it kind of works ;) (Looks sharper on Flickr/my original file)

I didn't go out to take photos, I was out walking the dog and we walk past this pond every day (y) Over an hour's dog walk, stopping for a couple of minutes to take a few photos I'm sure is fine (y)

I haven't tried to check but the news said our council has closed all its parks.

We're lucky we live right on Holmebrook Valley Park, but it would be impossible to close as it's not 'that kind of park', it's more just open countryside. It's not very busy, just locals walking their dogs or going for a run etc, and people are very good at sticking to social distancing (y)

We could do our usual walk to the shops as we do need stuff but as we're all somewhere on the at risk scale I suppose it's better to behave and stay home. We do seem to be the only ones in our road not acting as usual though.

We're far from acting as usual, and I'd say most folk round us are the same, rules appear to be very well adhered to here

Our council reopened all the parks the other day. You arent allowed to travel to them by car and all car parks are closed accept to those with disabled badges. Badge holders can only use the car park between 12-2. They are also all being staffed and checked for social distancing.

It seems to be business as usual here which is fair enough if it doesn't all go wrong. I think the problem is that no one seems to care. The nearby school is shut though so we don't have the school run anarchy to live through.

Just checked one local ones facebook page and it doesn't say anything helpful at all. I assume they are shut or under some kind of reduced access.

Once we can get out I'd like to get up the hill to see if I can catch the bluebells and the park is always nice. I'd also like to take my 20mm f1.8 out.

Well it shouldn’t be business as usual tbh, the guidelines are pretty clear. It seems to me that majority are sticking to it though, I hope that’s true anyway as the quicker the numbers go down the quicker we can go back to some kind of normality. That being said I highly doubt my working scenario will go back to normal this side of Christmas :(

Whilst we’re very lucky with our surroundings we don’t really get bluebells. The nearest place is Linacre Reservoir as the woods around there are usually full of them, and whilst it’s technically in walking distance it’s too far for Betty still at the moment. She just about manages with 60-70 mins, although we only do about 4-5k in that time as she’s not a fast walker and likes to sniff everything

I photographed some on the way to the shops on 30th March. Looking at pictures I've taken up the hill in previous years they've still been there in May. Going up and down the hill will take maybe 4 hours.

That’s one big hill

I've just been looking on evil bay and the price being asked for old film era mass market 28mm f2.8's is astonishing. Will they sell at these prices? Maybe. I have three, Rokkor, Zuiko and FD. I used the Rokkor a week or so ago but apart from that I can't remember the last time I used a 28mm prime.

Film cameras and equipment has gone up significantly in the past 12-18 months.

Were you using a sling strap? Mine's on a peak design slide with on attachment on left camera lug and the other on the tripod plate so the lens hangs straight down, was yours the same/similar?
If I hold my 100-400 downwards it doesn’t creep open. If I were to gently shake it (simulating it hanging on a strap by my side) it very slow extends.

If it’s hanging on a strap by your side and you are walking I’d expect the movement of walking to extend the lens. In use on tight the lens shouldn’t extend if pointing downwards (it should it’s on loose).

Yeah if I just hold it with the lens down it doesn’t creep if on tight (does on loose) but if walking it will extend a bit on tight. Shame it doesn’t have a lock, even my Tamron 150-600mm had one :(

Like you say it would need a lock. Other lenses would suffer the same issue if they didn’t have a lock.

Yeah it’s a shame but hey ho. Thanks for clarifying it’s normal (y)

I always expected the prices for old film era lenses to rise once Canon and Nikon released FF mirrorless cameras. It does seem to be getting harder to find decent condition lenses at reasonable prices now so I'm glad I have more than enough already.

There's a Sony 90mm f2.8 in the for sale section.

@f/2.8 - I believe last year you were saying you knew some folks who bought from e-inifinity and they were having troubles claiming on warranty.
Recently a good acquaintance of mine bought a lens from (think it was a samyang lol) and its decentered (surprising I know). e-inifinity are claiming its within manufacturer tolerance because it has passed their QC and they will not replace it.
So just wondering what his options are.... did the folks you know get anywhere with their warranty claims?

if purchased via CC he/she can raise a chargeback via the card issuer.

Chargebacks can be raised on debit cards also ;) (was looking into this yesterday for myself for something else)
But there is normally a cooling off period.

Credit cards give you section 75 protection but not sure if that covers grey imports.

it should cover purchases on the card of faulty goods.

cool, I'll mention it. not sure how he paid though. for his sake I hope he used CC.

hopefully. theres a good chance the issuer will refund him and go after e-efin. he may even end up not needing to return the lens to them.

Are you protected with paypal the same as with credit cards?

Even if he keeps the lens it's not good tbh. The left side complete mush. Think he has A7Rii, he could crop down a bit lol.

I take it it's gone past the 14 days no quibble return?
