The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

When is the firmware update out for the A73? I thought it was initially touted for March?

Nope, they said it would be April.

No big difference anyway not like the A9 update it’s just the updated eye a.f.

Rookies, re the 90mm macro, I have one, and would second what f2.8 said, that it's the best macro lens I've used. Dont use it for portraits though.

Handled a z6 today for 10 mins pretty liked the handle of it feels at home in hand. But didn’t think it had as many af mode

Did the grip fall to bits in your hands ;)

Did mention it to Nikon rep he tried to act surprised but think he knew somthing

Can't wait for all those cat photos

Some would say they're no worse than pics of kids, I mean someone else's cat probably shows me more about a lens than an over processed pic of their kid - I don't have to give a s*** about either, I'm just looking for image quality. But anyone that can't get a decent cat portrait without the aid of 'animal eye-AF' should probably stick to using their phone cam

I don't think I had seen any videos by this chap, Mark Smith, until this vid popped up as a YT recommendation last week for me to see it, but there are some stunning images of birds taken with the Sony a9 and the Nikon D500. This is not a 'this is better than that' vid btw, rather a comparison of the two cameras in different light in different situations. Never seen anything like the Black Skimmer birds before. :$ I'm posting to show the images, some of which I found stunning, more than the cameras and tech, though there is tech in there too. ;) Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Very true! Lazy ass cats are easy pickings. Although much like humans when I take a pic of mine she usually gives me that ‘what again’ face.

Eye AF might work for me in certain situations with the horses, but then no one is looking for a sharp eye in these types of photos.

What sort of stuff do you shoot these days?

For people who have had both A7iii and A7Rii, is there a real difference in terms of performance? Sensor output and IQ both seem great, but what about autofocus (fast toddler).

I got rid of the Sigma 85 art and replaced it with the Sony council house primetime 85. Hallelujah on the weight savings. Really hope theres a 35 1.8 so I can get rid of the 1.4 ArtView attachment 241684

We rarely see foxes here, actually only ever seen two in the wild. Well I say wild we caught one on our cctv prowling about the front of our house while we were tucked up in bed. The other was at a fox hunt a fair time ago.

My youngest loves them, already this year we have had to take her 4 times to see a tame fox, that a local women who does animal shows for kids has.
