The 52 Weeks of Daysleeping - week 25 "Development" Reshoot

It might have been your only idea but what a fabulous interpretation. I would never have thought of that in a million years - fantastic creativity :clap::clap:

Looks good to me and you've done a great job in spite of how you might be feeling

How did I miss your crowd - great interpretation and use of colour and dof! Another fresh one :)!

And your money woman (that is Her Maj's head :)) is simply fantastic! Sooo original and well conceived and executed!

Lighting looks fine! How long did that take to assemble? and did it stay upright throughout :)?

Thanks DS - didn't take too long to assemble but fell down about twenty times and her head kept rolling off under the bed! With it being her Maj's head I did consider giving her a skirt made out of a fiver but lets just say my tailoring skills weren't quite up to the challange :D

Thanks Bruja - I had been racking my brains all week and this just came to me today so I was pretty relieved to have thought of anything at all!

That's absolutely wonderful...

and such a truly genuine idea for this week...and I don't agree with you on the lighting...it work great...

It works on all levels for me...the idea, the lighting, and contruction...:woot:

one tiny thing I'd change would be a slightly tighter crop to get rid of the small brown thing above the 50p could be sticky tape.

But wonderful stuff this week...

DS - you go from strength to strength. This is terrific. It made me smile and then I started to realise how difficult it must have been to light, to keep assembled and to set up in the first place. It might feel like your comfort zone to you, but honestly, it's excellent!:clap:

btw - my 'light tent' is just a piece of white card bent slightly into a curve, with a couple more pieces of card at the sides for reflectors.

crikey, that must have taken some doing!! Great idea and well captured

I totally agree with Spartacus, this works on all levels for me too. Superb :notworthy: :1st:

Superb shot, and well done on the amount of effort involved in setting it up. It made me smile, the details are excellent, the lighting looks about right to me.:clap:

Great fun! I think more colour could be injected by using more interestingly coloured notes = e.g. £20 is purple - a very regal/posh colour! Seriously though - I think you did well with the lighting considering the difficulty of having different reflective/shiny surfaces on the coins vs. the non-reflective note...

:agree:

Wow - thanks for all the lovely comments! A very pleasant surprise :D

I'm as shocked as anyone that I have managed to get my week 9 shot by wednesday... it is however a reshoot week so I had to leave time to hopefully re-visit a previous effort :D

So Week 9 - Identity.

A very clear idea popped into my head this week immediately - unfortunately it was not do-able

On the positive side I have managed to modify my effort and hopefully still get across the general direction of the original idea. Essentially I wanted to show that when you die, and once those with a living memory of your actual personality have also passed on, you are simply left with whatever label was deemed suitable for your headstone or memorial... if you are lucky enough to have one. My original thought was of the unknown soldiers who's names, personalities, lives, are lost to the simple identity of "soldier".

It wasn't practical to go and photograph the headstone of an unknown soldier but I applied the same logic to a more local subject...

Week9-Identity.jpg

At least Mary Elizabeth Ward, who died in 1825, managed to get her name on her memorial - but the only other thing it tells us is that she was someones daughter. I'm sure she was so much more, but this is now her identity, and it will be for as long as the stone stands.

Picture taken with my Olympus Mju compact and obviously tinkered with in Paint Shop Pro X2. Thanks for looking... I may be back with a re-shoot later in the week!

I was thinking of doing that, theres a small cemetry next to the house. That's a striking image the emphasised "daughter of the above" really leaves you thinking - And? A really striking image.:clap:

What a very thought provoking image, before taking the teaching route, I worked with the terminally ill. I used to love hearing stories of peoples lives and was always humbled by how the very sick and weak had led some of the most fascinating and wild lives before their illnesses.

I hadn't given that a thought for a long while, untill I just saw your image. I guess that's why I am becoming hooked! It is a medium that stirs and emotion and connects us all.

Superb

Cemetery shots crossed my mind but not as stylishly as this!

The processing, framing and angle you've shot it at all work well

and yes its thought provoking - Identity at least is providing a really wide variety this week :)

Nice one DS!

Love the smarties one.. Great colours. Wealth, even better! Fantastic idea. I love your creativity.
Identity, not so much I'm afraid. I find the processing rather overdone. Perhaps this could be better is you used a very narrow depth of field and a steep angle to highlight the part you want us to read.

dont know how i have missed this one!!!!!!

have just had a look through your images and what can i say......fantastic! love the idea behind the images and the fact that you are really pushing things..... i really must think harder
well done!

Great images - I love the 'wealth' picture

I think the 'identity' picture works really well too: it is quite thought-provoking. Well done :)

Wealth, what a clever idea, really great.

Identity, another very orginal idea, well processed.

Mark:wave:

Thanks again for all the nice comments. I agree that the processing is a bit overdone and I would have preferred to get the effect in camera if possible. Unfortunately I was using my compact so I had very limited control over what I could do. I know the FZ8 is also a compact / bridge camera but you know what I mean - it has all the manual settings that the Oly just doesn't have.

Great idea - quite sad thinking about it though. Maybe a bit overprocessed for me - how does it work with a bit less blur? Also - was the text of 'daughter of the above' really that small? Even sadder that she really does become a footnote :(

A very good idea, well taken and thought provoking too.

Great idea with the headstone, and i really like the processing to make only one line visiable :)

I like this from you...it's straight to the point where to look...and gets the message across brilliantly...

I think your photo's are going from strength to strength...

Week 10 - Wisdom

No clever idea this week - and I've taken a bit of a cop out by adding text to get my point across - but if nothing else I hope you enjoy looking at this beautiful Snow Leopard... an appreciate the sentiment of the saying. I personally think the Nez Perce were onto something when they said:

Again I am not at all sure about the processing but I am determined to keep trying new things - even if they don't turn out so well!

I love the shot and the processing  that's excellent. It certainly looks like it knows something you don't. I'm not keen on the text across the image personally, I think it looks a bit like an ad with it there. Something that could go in the border ?

If I can work out how to do that I may well give it a try!

Thanks for the feedback

What are you using to edit the image ?

I agree but it's a lovely shot...I just would like to see a bit more colour of the eyes jump out of the shot to give the cat a more striking look of wisdom.

I can only echo what's been said above. Well done on pushing your boundaries. It's one of the best thing about this 52 project IMO!

Fabulously sharp eyes . Pushing the boundaries is what this project is all about. This snow leopard looks quite orange (did you selectively sepia tone the image?). I agree with the comment that you could have enhanced the eyes in PP, but not a major point.

Great shot :)

Its a lovely shot of a lovely animal and a pretty wise saying too!

I'm with John on preferring the text off the image but nonetheless a great submission for this weeks theme :)
