Hi

I have been in discussions with a model about a time for photo's studio session. This means I pay for the studio and she gives up her time in exchange for a copy of the photo's, this is a good way for me to get more practice at a reduced rate.

When we were discussing it, I mentioned that if she cancels she would be liable for the cancellation fee's. Which has now turned out to be £25 if more than 24 hours notice was given, or £100 if less than 24 hours notice was given.

Today i checked avaliability at the studio and dropped her a mail saying we can go ahead, and her response was that she wasn't keen anymore, because she has never heard of having to pay cancellation fee's before. The problem I have is, if someone offers her a paid shoot she would probably accept and therefore I would be left with an empty studio. So I don;t want to be out of pocket. Do you think I was wrong?

Well thats my rant over with.

Short answer, NO!
Long answer, you were only covering y'ass as you obviously had some niggling doubt as to her "availabillity", my answer is still NO!

Got to agree - you dont want to be forking out for studio cover and twiddle your thumbs.

And we CERTAINLY dont want any more of your 'self portraits' young man :nono:

I wouldn't say you were being unreasonable. Did you find her through a forum and does she have any feedback or references? If this is where she gets her work it's unlikely she'll want the poor feedback you'd leave her for leaving you in the lurch.

I think you were perfectly reasonable to be honest

I agree with all above I think thats reasonable

ditto, you made her aware of the situation and can't be fairer than that. oh well, back to the drawing board to search for another willing victi- I mean, model

You were up front about the deal on offer so it's not like you've tried to pull a fast one. The deal sounds fair to me, whoever cancels is liable for the costs - pretty standard stuff IMO.

she wants to cancel because of the cancel fees!?
so if you cancel the cancellation fees will she cancel the cancellation due to cancellation fees?
I think I'll go and lie down for a minute!
