Teacher telling kids about the tooth fairy - what to do ?

right, sod it, im off to bed, see ya

how the hell can you seriously expect me to watch Jeremy Kyle, come on :runaway:

Let me spell it out for you then as you seem to be having learning difficulties. There are far worse things in life that a lot of kids of that age have to live with, than being told Fairies and Santa don`t exist. A real shame you cannot see that though. Have you taken over where Scrivens left off by any chance?

I'm not sure when it was I learnt Santa and the tooth theft wasn't real, but it wasn't an earth shattering event in my childhood, I wasn't scared for life....I suspect that a few in this thread are stuffing pre-festivalmasness hysteria....there is a vaccine for it though

Hi Steve

Seems a few posters don't believe in Christmas spirit, spirits maybe though...

I think if your son and friends were 5 years old most people would probably be in agreement, or certainly a higher percentage. As it stands people take their own views on what they did with their children, or what they think children should and should not be told at age 9.

If I was you I would go and speak to the teacher first, find our first hand about the books and also about what was actually said and why. Whilst I sympathise with your view, I don't personally think on it's own this is worth escalating further than you have. You've made your feelings known, other parents should as well. The school \ teacher can make a decision based on that - I certainly don't think a teacher should lose their job over something like this.

Good luck and have a Merry Christmas.

Al

You really don't know me do you, number 1, I won't even lower myself to watch that crap what you posted, let's face it Jeremy Kyle is a joke, number 2, I remind my kids every week if not day how lucky they are, number 3, I give as much as I can to children's charity's as do my children, this has nothing to do with anything other than the op's question so don't start preaching to me about what you think is right, and 4, who is scrivens

Ahh the infamous Scrivens

Unless it's a religious school - I completely agree!

My children do or did go to a CofE primary school and were taught about other religions and visited a mosque but more importantly also discussed athisism (sp) creatism (sp) if God exists and this is a school that has the vicar in for assembly every week, again I think it is a very balanced way of teaching.

The beauty fairy visited me a year or so ago, pretending to be the tooth fairy. And knocked my top front teeth out with his ugly stick.

Don't lie to kids and why, of they're told 364 days a year "don't take sweets from strangers" do they get sent out one evening to ask strangers for sweets?

BTW, Santa does exist; watch the Western sky over Christmas at around sunset and you'll see his sleigh headlight...

Father Christmas does exist. He had an emergency landing one Xmas eve at Heathrow. His number 4 Reindeer had cramp. Fire. Police and Ambulance Crews all over the place. The Government covered it up, obviously. I mean if that got out to the public......

D Notices were fluttering like confetti at Kate Burley and the Sky crew when they turned up.

I saw it all, although I'd lost my specs and was looking at it all through the bottom the only lens I could find, a bottle of Bailieys. But it happened, I was there...well, in body.

A wondrous magical childhood is a glorious thing, but its a serious dilemma because lies prepare your child for nothing don't they.

Teachers probably done you a favour in the long run, in the meantime your kid is pondering if you have egg on your face.

I'd say, upset as you are, take a deep breath, these things happen, worse things at sea etcetera and forget about it.

I don't think there should be religious schools.

There is one near me with their motto on the sign at the front of the building: "learning to love god, each other amd ourselves" This is a state school, not a private one. I think schools should stick to education and leave the religious teaching to the churches.

My view is that teaching Christian mythology as if it is fact is much worse than telling the truth about the tooth fairy.

Steve.

Welcome words of moderation. Lets all move along nothing to see her

Very interesting replies, I'm out on this one now but will keep reading, merry Christmas to you all

Reality is, for most parents with a child around that age, you're anxious to keep the "magic" of Christmas, etc. alive for as long as you can (although you'd not want your child going to secondary school still believing in Santa, etc.). I was lucky, when we told our eldest, she wasn't upset but rather she was appreciative of the efforts we had made.

The thing was though, we made the decision when to tell, which is every parents right.

This particular issue, in my eyes, is not solely about the teacher speaking about the tooth fairy, but rather that the teacher has overstepped a line that, with a bit of common sense, he or she should have known not to.

OK. Let's put this into perspective, I know it would be lovely if kids could be kids for longer but unfortunately they grow up a lot quicker than we want. Taking a similar line to hooch 1. If this is all you have to worry about with your kids growing up you are bloody lucky, at the age of 12 my eldest daughter was diagnosed with bulimia which she had a very hard battle with until this year, then at 13 self harm reared it's ugly head which she is still fighting with, these are both just symptoms of the depression and extreme low mood disorder that has been diagnosed, this last year has been unbelievable hard for us as parents one doctor trying to get her sectioned because she didn't listen to what was being said, an overdose, and who is the person outside the immediate family who has helped us the most (outside the medical profession) yap you have guessed it, one of her teachers. Went that step a little further told her a few home truths which we had said as well, sorted some of the issues at school, and was like a sarogate mother to her while she was at school. She came and sat with my daughter for a day while she was in hospital just to cheer her up give my wife and I some moral support without this one teacher I do not know where or if my daughter would be here today. So stop and think a little before going hell for leather at the teacher, she may be doing something extremely helpful for another child without you or anyone else knowing.

There are some bloody great teachers out there, please stop putting them down as soon as they do something you may not agree with, the job is hard enough without it.

I will also add that what I have put above is not that uncommon, 1in15 children will have either an eating disorder or mental health issue. That's 2 kids in every class. Does the tooth fairy seem quite as important now?

Great post Dave, thanks for sharing that with us. Continues in the same vein of argument that Rich was making about the real problems that kids have to face today.

You are quite right Lee I do not know you. My reply with the video was not even aimed at you, you were probably well aware it was not about Kyle but the content within, no you do not have to watch it and I was not telling you to either, but if you do not watch it to see the point I was trying to make then don`t bother replying to it with a non contributing reply. Brash I can expect because he is a moron. It does have something to do with the Op`s question,as I pointed out it is hardly a life changing moment for his child to be told such a thing. Lastly Lee I do not preach to anybody about anything, but if you wanna carry on believing in fairies then that`s fine.

As I've said, I'm out, move on, and merry Christmas

Just an ex member that annoyed the greenies too once to often so the dragged him out of his VW Up, blind folded him with toilet roll and then sacrificed him to the great and almighty Jaffa....what upset him the most was he was 9.5 minutes into his start up 10

Lol, ahh now I'm with you

First talk to the teacher

Then talk to the head teacher

Then you talk to the chair of governors

That is the route you take and anyone who says different is wrong. If these 3 steps don't resolve the issue, you then talk to the LEA.

Your child wasn't in the class so you can't complain. Only those with children in the class can complain.

The books in the library is a different issue. What do you feel is inappropriate about them?

The teacher may support the teacher when talking to parents but often will be talking to the teacher.

The ironic thing here Matt was that he was an ex teacher. He probably got expelled for telling the kids the truth about fairies
