Teacher telling kids about the tooth fairy - what to do ?

bloody Norah, if you told half the church going adults there was no god, there would be mass suicide, so how can you expect a nine year old to take it all in, let kids be kids

You'd be quite rightly up in arms if the teacher lied to your children, yet you get upset when 'she' tells them the truth. If you didn't lie to them in the first place there would be no problem.

What? That your parenting should be respected? Yeah, I would say so. Parents have the final say on a child's upbringing (unless it's deemed harmful, but that's making things complex,) not a teacher. Encourage a child to question but to make a bold statement like that lacks morals. Upsetting children by making such a statement - to be honest, I can't see how that's educational.

Sometimes children believe, sometimes they don't. When I was at school, some of the 9 year olds still believed in Santa. I know of one person who had to be told at 11 before going to comprehensive school that Santa wasn't what they thought....a year later and that same person didn't believe in God...some other peers followed suit in not believing in God, but he was the first.

No. Not that your parenting should be respected, but the fact that if the parent wished their children not to be told there were no such things as fairies and Santa then it should have been made clear with the school from the onset. I was going to say it is hardly a life changing ordeal, but you know what there are those that actully think it is. Getting all worked up by such a trivial thing imho is what is wrong with society today. Shock horror lets blame someone, let`s write to out MP and complain. Watch this from 08.10 onwards and then tell me the OP`s child has such a real big issue ;)

The teacher is there to teach, not have any input on parenting, half of them know nothing about parenting, come to think of it:thinking: half know nothing about teaching either, they go on about taking a child out of school for a day for some reason or another but don't give two sh@t@ when the child has to stay off school for their bloody striking.

Hells bells, what a storm in a tea cup. Reading though the thread I think some people would be better to home school or think about home schooling. Teachers are damned if they do and damned if they don't, just because something isn't on the curriculum they shouldn't talk about it, don't make me laugh, what happens when a kid asks a question?
Do none of you remember school? You were forever being told things that your parents didn't think were appropriate or things that aren't real ie tooth fairies and santa. It did us no harm, it is part of growing up.

Sorry edited after quoted due to poor grammarians spelling.

Ha ha!! Kyle, it's not contrived, exaggerated, staged, manipulated or turd polished for public entertainment at all is it? You should go on, I'd watch that, that's your level. I suppose you watch Big Brother and think them freaks are a genuine cross section of our society as well. Jog on!!

I presume that is aimed at me, do you care to explain why my post is so Jeremy Kyle?

err:thinking: you've posted a video of Jeremy Kyle

if you believe in Jeremy Kyle I think you need to go and have a word with op's teacher, she/he will put you straight

Santa, God, Tooth Fairy, Devil, Zombies, Vampires or any other mythical characters defy scientific evidence, but some people believe in them longer than others no matter who says otherwise or proof to the contrary.

Inferring that the tooth fairy is not real, doesn't have a lot to do with parenting does it. If you are dead set that your child should keep those fantasies alive for as long as possible, you'd have to keep them under lock and key.

You have to laugh really. Teachers are there to teach and have no input on parenting? Whilst a child is at school they are in fact acting in loco parentis. How on earth can they be expected to be so rigid in their teaching and not discuss anything which is not in the national curriculum, it's just not possible.

With regards children missing school for a day, it is not the teachers themselves who have made this rule, they are acting on instructions and have no say in the matter.

Can't agree with your statement regarding half of teachers knowing nothing about teaching or parenting either.

They might here things off other children, but when they here it from an adult its gospel, especially a teacher, what exactly are they gaining from telling them this?

some are good some are bad, 50-50 like I said, I'm only speaking from experience with teachers, and your telling me teachers have no choice when it comes to striking, next you'll be telling me santa doesn't exist

Well, it's all conjecture as not even the OP knows what was said and why. But, for example, if the teacher was asked outright then it would be wrong to lie (to any age children in my opinion, but remember these are 9 year olds and not toddlers).

I don't believe I said that teachers have no choice with regards striking. They are not responsible for the decisions made with regards children being taken out of school during term time.

your absolutely correct, none what's so ever

Ha!! Smart arse:confused:

Please what? State your point I wont be afraid to answer you.
how the hell can you seriously expect me to watch Jeremy Kyle, come on :runaway:

I really need to go to bed and get to sleep or the beauty fairy will pass me by

Hmmm... obviously aimed at me.

Seeing as you don't seem capable of reading between the lines I'll fill them in for you

I doubt someone who would feel it necessary to write to their mp because a teacher let the Santa lie out of the bag can teach me anything about reading between the lines. But it's the thought that counts at this time of year, thanks ;)
