Hi,

I heard that this is starting to ship in Oz. Has anyone heard about price/ availability in the UK?

Thanks,

James.

I guess but I can't see it competing with the nikon 24-70 or the canon 24-70L

Those are still near twice the price though and canon's new version sounds like its going to be £2000+.

Tamron seem to be on good form at the moment, it'll be interesting to see how this performs. Only grip I have with nearly all tamron lenses ive tried is that they don't ever seem to feel high quality. It's a trick that sigma and tokina seem to have got right. Q

Yes the build quality has always made me turn my nose up at tamron.

It looks to have the same build/finish as a 70-300 VC which is okay but nowhere near an L, for an £800 lens it really should have a much better finish.

Too much. The 28-75 was a good lens, not as good as the Nikon but a hell of a lot cheaper. New, the Nikon is £1200 and I think that anything Tamron come up with needs to be less than half that, unless it really is amazing!

If it's anywhere near the quality of the Canon for around a third of the price I'd be happy enough. Don't forget it has VC which the Canon hasn't and if the VC is as good as the VC on a 28-300 it'll be impressive.
Even if the optics are as good as the MkI Canon it'll be worth it IMO.
