weekly Sworks 52 in 2013

hi Ya

I like that shot.....different but works...good colors, nice n sharp

I too like it and agree with maybe having a larger dof to get the all the bits in focus.

Yet another week went by too fast! I took this last Sunday and it didn't really work. I deliberatly focused on the 'S' and blew the rest out of focus but it would probably work better with a wider dof. I had a better idea but ran out of time to sort it so I can hopefully use that idea at a later date. Making the most of what I had I converted to black and white with a small amount of colour to draw your eye to the letter which won't be to everybodys taste :)

Good colour idea and use of focus. Cropped a little tight in my opinion but nevertheless a good idea.

Thanks for the comments. The tightness of the crop was so as not to get the rear body seam in :)

I like your take on letter Mark, dof perfect, draws the viewers eye directly to the subject. I like the contrasty feel too, the splash of colour sits well against the B&W background.
The crop is a bit tight for me but I understand your reasoning.

Letter, like it. Nice simple, yet effective idea. Uber blacks works for me as does the red. I rather like the tight crop.

Cheers.

Another busy week and what I thought was a difficult subject. Struggled all week until tonight when my son was playing on a keyboard app on his ipad so we dragged his 'electric' keyboard out in desperation :) Shallow dof due to having no flash or lights so shooting at f2.8 as my camera doesn't have high iso

Hi, Mark, the link in the 'no comments' thread isn't working

On theme and sometimes life just takes over. Wonder what a photograph of your son playing the piano on his iPad would have looked like.

Cheers.

Thanks, link repaired. I don't know why It never occurred to me to use my son and the iPad app, I think that would have worked better.....

Any excuse to get 2 of my cars in a photo. Direction - both cars are indicating left, Tenuous I know :p

piano shot doesn;t really shout electric to me, I know you've got the YAMAHA in there, but it looks too much like a piano rather than an electric keyboard...

and the cars are a bit tenuous for direction, suppose they're both facing the same direction, shame the indicators I wouldn't really have noticed if you hadn;t mentioned it.

Both nice and clean though - I have enough trouble cleaning one car - let alone two, at the same time!!

I might change the direction photo later in the week if I have time and I'm allowed, I was getting tired of sorting photos at 10 o'clock of a Friday night and wanted to upload something without being under pressure :)

Hi Mark

Electric - probably on theme because of the yamaha (but they do make percussive pianos too). Like the angle and the focus

Direction - doesn't work for me on the theme without the explanation and even then I missed the indicators - I jus thought they were pointing in a direction uphill! Good shot of cars tho - also the background reminds me of a place that we stayed in Ambleside last year.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm about 40 miles from Ambleside but in the same county :)

Hi ya

Electric...nice blacks & good angle...maybe shooting or cropping closer to the word Yamaha would make the connection more obvious ?

Direction....I don't care about the link to the theme here.....I soooo love yellow cars  & so bloomin clean as well...

Tacky by Mark McGrady, on Flickr

Very predictable and yet again trying to sort a photo on a Friday night! Becoming a chore and not fun - need to have a long think about what happens next!

Certainly on theme for me Mark
I like the crop you've taken here and the shallow dof, they work well together.
This is my third 52, not consecutive granted. I know how you feel about the enjoyment side of it, I've felt that way before about it. I still haven't got anything for this weeks theme but I don't sweat about it now.
Difficult to say what you should do but what i will say is that this hobby is for enjoyment and wouldn't want the 52 to spoil that for you. Anyway, you've posted for this week, onwards and upwards as they say. You never know tomorrows theme might just be the one you can get your teeth into eh?

Thanks for the encouragement Iain. Doing the 52 was to get me using the camera more which I am doing. Struggling with the themes though, I like to take photos that I like rather than what I have to take.......

I can understand that Mark, I am with you on taking photographs that you like. Sometimes though, to keep going in the 52, it can be a case of post and be damned. Its a difficult concept to get my head around at times.

Predictable...well, I have to say this idea never crossed my mind :D

I have to say, I rather like it. Nice low angle and the shadows add to the depth.

Wonder if a subtle border would add anything to it.

Cheers and keep going

I think it works really well too, I believe that everyone struggles with the themes sometimes but i do believe its helpful to think outside what your comfort zone is

A good shot for Tacky - on theme, nice and sharp, good background. An easy one to like...

hi ya

Tacky...nope , that wouldn;'t have crossed my mind for the theme either....great lighting & a cracking white bg...spot on mister

& yes , know what you mean about a struggle with this project...my 3rd year on the trot & constantly having a battle with these themes ...but keep going , it is worth it .Get out n about taking shots of stuff you enjoy , don't worry about posting on time or a tenuous link to any theme....

2 for £30.... Value??? :D

On theme and the red really pops; but, well, not one of your best.

Keep going....you're nearly at the end

Cheers.

Just happy to get a shot within the week, I've uploaded photos to Flickr that Im not generally happy with which I would never normally do, struggling with themes and time so I'm working on the principle that a poor shot is better than no shot

Greed by Mark McGrady, on Flickr

I had an idea to pile a lot of Mr Men and Little Miss books together with Mr Greedy on the top. After seeing morpheus75 had a similar idea of using Mr Greedy I changed mine slightly.

Hi Mark, You have put a nice shot together there. I really like the way the two whites and silver work on the black BG.

It's a  from me.
