weekly Sworks 52 in 2013

More Mr Greedy :D

Nice composition and good detail. The pink really pops.

I'd prefer the knife and fork facing down, minor point.

Cheers.

Hi Mark, many apologies for taking so long to get here!

Tacky, I really like this, nice and simple and perfect for the theme  The white background gets a little lost on a white computer/ phone screen. Maybe a drop shadow would help. And I'm surprised Iain didn't say that as I learnt that from him :)

Value, really? I think I would have straightened the rail across the top:thinking: Maybe not the most interesting subject, but as you have said it's difficult to shoot for a theme and at least you got one in, unlike me :whistling:

Greedy, the pink really pops and draws your eye to where it's needed. I would maybe move the knife and fork slightly so it didn't chop his feet off, but otherwise I like the black BG.

I understand you're struggle with this 52, this is my second year and I'm struggling too purely for time with commenting being nigh on impossible. All I would say is if a theme doesn't inspire you leave it until it does, nothing to stop you coming back to it at a later date  My 52 is lagging behind for that very reason.

Hi Mark

wow...that red shirt really pops ...not my idea of VFM but hey.... it's on theme, sharp & to the point :)

Greed...like it.....the placement , the lovely black bg... slight bright spot but then silver & white reflective items are a mare to light well :)

yep good work Mark - simple clean shot.

think the circles of the plate and on the plate work really well with the square of the book - and then the curved shape of mr greedy within that.

well composed, sharp, white whites and black blacks.

Good job.

Hi Mark

Tacky - excellent theme choice. Good pov and partic like the bright lighting

Value - just a grab shot really. Reds are good but the green thingys at the back are distracting

Greedy - Like that idea a lot  some issues with lighting and the placement of the cutlery but overall I think comp of the circle of the plate, the square of the book and the diagonal of the cultery is excellent.

Tacky - clever, and well done. The toning is great.

Value - have to agree, not my idea of value. :)

Greedy is cleverly done, only crit would be the way you've placed the fork makes him look less mister man and more of a mister bean.

Hi ya

Angles..of the 3 I'd plump for the Carb's...just cos it's a different subject matter , you've handle the shiny surface really well...might be tempted to shot closer up to the carbs & put more space behind them? if that makes sense???

Like the angle of Trajectory as well...looks better viewed bigger on flicker though

Thanks for the comments, there was another car behind so the background was a bit cluttered. Looking again maybe if the bonnet at the bottom was cropped a bit this might be less distracting?

I think the second angle for me although the crop is a bit tight but you have explained that

Hi
I love the contrast of colours in the first angle shot but prefer the second. As said before well done with coping with the reflective surfaces.

Thank you

Hi
I love the contrast of colours in the first angle shot but prefer the second. As said before well done with coping with the reflective surfaces.

Thanks, I like the first one but possibly not enough interest going on within the image

Rustic by Mark McGrady, on Flickr

This trough dates from around the mid 1800's and was used by horses to drink from on one of the main roads out of town. As years have moved on a drainage pipe has been added to make use of what is now just a means of collecting water

H, Rustic works for me, especially the processing. Sme nice detail there.

I'm, not overly keen on the composition. It feels a bit central for me. Bit more of the RH side of the scene and a bit more or an angle to the trough.

Cumbria....ya lucky b****r ;)

Cheers.

Hi

Angles - #2 for me. Good handling of exposure. Bit tight on the crop.

Rustic. - fits the theme but not sure that the b&w treatment brings out the best. Composition could be improved IMO by including more of the RHS and angling the shot so that the bottom LHS of the trough is not cut off.

Have to agree with the others on Rustic, a good choice of subject, but you might have benefited from a more interesting angle, I'm sure there is some texture in those bricks... Sorry.

Thanks for the comments, all taken on board. This is on a very busy road out of the town so didn't want to stand there too long for safety reasons, quick photo and got out of there :)

FWIW I also prefer the second, You got it just right to pick up the theme but maybe that has spoiled it a little overall?

Second too for me, the one in front needs to be the focus, nice BG, and a sneaky way round teh theme.....

Hi ya

Cumbria is just fab...you gonna head over to the meet in June ??

Rustic....cracking old trough....the angle doesn't bother me though a slightly wider view would be nice...definitely some great textures in the bricks that could be brought out though

Kind....never even thought about Kinder eggs....like your thinking...#2 image for me , like the shadow falling almost across the ER & prefer the front one to be in focus

Thanks for the link, I'm about 2 1/2 hours away......... Not sure about camping though, have you seen how much it rains :D Could certainly meet up at some point over the weekend though

I deleted the first pic from Flickr not thinking I had posted it here so that's why it's now not there :)

Vertical by Mark McGrady, on Flickr

Taken on Friday on the way home from work. On theme but the image looks a little flat? any sugestions appreciated

Nothing a small boost in contrast and saturation wouldn't help..... and a straighten too. :naughty:

nicely on theme, a bit of motion in the blades wouldn't go amiss, but I think you'd probably need a filter to get the shutter speed low enough to capture that

Hadn't realised it wasn't straight, one of my pet hates too :( Should look straighter now but it also looks like my sensor needs a clean. Almost ended up with a cropped blade but it's all there ......... just :)

Mark, some nice shots here. Mr Greedy works pretty well, although ut's not clear if we're supposed to be eating him! Really like the angled carbs; good thought there. The other two didn't do it for me, I'm afraid. Rustic has nice txtures, but overall a bit dark, and hard to see quite what's going on. Three of a kind: nice shot and very cleverly lit to emphasise "kind" on the kinder surprise.

Vertical, quite a lot to like here but it's a pity the top sail of the wind thingy is just clipped out of shot. The wind thingies themselves are good strong subjects. but you're right, the shoreline landscape is a bit flat. It may be that you can't rescue that, but perhaps tweaking contrast or adjusting the white/black points might help?

EDIT: I see your comment that the whole blade is in shot, but touching the edge like that brings ambiguity on whether it is or not!

Hi Mark

be good to meet up with you if you make it over to the meet

Vertical.....I don't think it's flat at all...lovely detail in the sky , well exposed & a good true representation of the scene you saw ...oh yes...on theme too  A little too tight at the top for me but as you say , the blade is all there :)

Pattern by Mark McGrady, on Flickr

Not happy with this one but struggling to keep up so another type of 'a shot is better than no shot' I need some serious motivation and a few extra hours in the day as I feel my photography is becoming lazy just to get a shot? hangs head in shame........ but I'm determined to finish the year :)
The pattern is one of many set into the pavement across the harbour with a long line of fishes linking them up.

well its a pattern so thats all good, would have liked to see it in colour maybe and bang centre in the frame.

hi ya

if you find any spare hours can I borrow a few please ;)

Yup , it's on theme . quite like mono but do wonder what the color version looks like.....you say it's one of many & they're linked by fishes....if you have a chance to revisit why not try keep the pattern you have but further to the left or right & getting some of the fishes in ?

C'mon over to the meet & say Hi

The fishes are spaced well apart and quite small so the next one along I think would be too small to see, didn't realise there was one top right until I edited it :bonk:

I've said it before and i'll say it again, we all have them 'post and be damned' weeks.

On theme and nice detail. Compositionally, just looks a tad.

Onwards and upwards

We all have slumps Mark. What I did a few weeks ago was have a look at different types of photography to see what styles etc where out there that I found interesting and then try and do the theme AND a new style (or type of photography) at the same time, it rejuvenated my interest and I came out of the rut.

I think Pattern is a good shot even if it's not your best. I think the missing word from Andy's post above is "flat" some texture would lift it I think.
