So a wee visit to Gigabytes support pages revealed a new bios version which fixes the microcode glitch.
No need to have Hyper Threading disabled anymore.

In other news, im waiting on my white acrylic GPU cover to arrive which Will then be vinyled up to match the motherboard design.
I may even look to change the colour of the GeForce logo from green to white.

Did you not fancy taking advantage of the M.2 slot for your OS SSD?
For what i do i wont really see the benefit of the extra speed plus some of them are nae bonnie to look at.
At least my SSDs are naturally hidden behind the motherboard.

Sorry but I think thats a mistake and you've sacrificed performance for looks.
As it's a disk based OS the speed performance of the M2 card is significant. I went with 512Gb Samsung Evo M2 SSD and 2 x 512 Gb Samsung Evo Sata SSD's for my build, backed with a 16Tb raid of WD red disks (5 x 4Tb).
The M2 card on a disk check gives 2400Mb/sec read, 1960mb/sec write, compared to the 550Mb read/write of the sata disks. 3 Sec startup (after bios check) for Windows 10 to be ready for work.
The M2 card is used for the OS, one SSD for Lightroom Cache and catalogue files, and the other for this years Raw files (import and work on this disk).

I need to add it's all wasted on the missus who uses it everyday as an office PC, apart from the fact it's quick and almost silent.
However when I need to work it, it flies :D

Mine was built last year, I went for

1 x Fractal Design Define R5 Black Pearl Computer Case
2 x Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5inch SSD
1 x Samsung 950 PRO 512GB M.2 SSD
5 x WD Black 4TB 3.5" SATA Desktop Hard Drive
1 x EVGA Supernova 750W Fully Modular 80+ Gold Power Supply
1 x Asus Maximus VIII Hero Z170 Socket 1151 HDMI DisplayPort 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard
1 x Intel core i7 unlocked Skylake 6700k CPU
2 x 16Gb Corsair Vengeance DDR4 PC4-2400 Ram
1 x Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler (120mm fan, very quiet)

Total cost was around the £2000

Ah WD Black not red drives.

But its not a mistake as i dont need that level of speed and after a bios check Windows 10 loads and is useable within 10-12 seconds. Now compare that to my current laptop where Windows was useable after approx 3 mins, then an extra 7 seconds in my world is negligible.

When up and running i am not chundering through lots of images/catalogues/raid configurations so m2 drives are wasted on me at this moment in time.

Besides that i am entitled to put aesthetics before functionality as i will have already assessed the adverse effect.

Its funny but the above scenario is similar to when i posted my build spec on a facebook group and loads of people questioned why i had a z170x board if all im using is an i3 cpu.
Some peope just dont get that not everyone needs blistering performance here and now but do factor in a viable upgrade path for the future.

The M2 card would have been the same price and it's not about chundering through images but about where the operating system is placed, so the performance (for the same money) wouldn't have been wasted as it affects everything you do.

In this photography forum, where people process images and especially when people are complaining about the speed of Lightroom, then this makes a significant difference.

Happy for you if that's what you want, but if someone is looking to build similar then they should be aware of this difference, which was the point of my post.

The Samsung 960 pro 512gb (successor to your model) is approx £270 to buy brand new. That is half of what my budget was to build a machine in the first place!!!

I bought 2 Sandisk Ultra Plus sata 3 SSD drives for a smidge over £50.
Why did i buy them - they were cheap, they are fast compared to coming from a mechanical 5200rpm hard drive environment and i could conceal them.

Your needs from a system and my needs from a system are entirely different hence why we built two completely different systems.

Fair enough, you hadn't mentioned budget just SSD for the OS which started the discussion around M2 advantages over Sata SSD, which are around the same money, if comparing size (GB).
Laptop disks, 5200rpm is slow, no wonder you had slow running :D most are 7200 or SSD these days.

What size disks did you get for 2 for £50? 120Gb? What OS are you running?

Also if asthetics are important to you, have you seen the wall mounted? i.e.

That could have looked very good with your components

I got a 128gb disc for OS (windows 10 plus apps) and a 64gb as a scratch disk for Adobe CC.
If i did a build like that Mrs Stupar would have chopped the jewels off :D
