when I sold everything to buy a single focal length camera, 28mm, I did so to remove the distraction of choice.

Now I'm looking of getting into professional photography (again) I decided I will need a workhorse camera (d750)

I'm in Vienna using 85mm and the d750 and 28mm on the other camera. The reasoning was mostly to become familiar with the Nikon which is fine.

I did find myself opting to use the 85mm too much though, i started to feel very lazy and spent two days neglecting the 28mm which I now (kind of) regret.

It made me think more about the choice of a zoom for street. How it could become to easy to shoot long, and at the same time you forget to even 'think' about the wide potential.

So I will avoid the 85mm out again I think it is a detriment to my vision.

I f you are thinking in terms of pro, I would suggest the 24~70 ƒ2.8.

I believe that your vision is not the primary concern if I understand you right.
I think more that you might have forgotten the main reason to be on the street,
the main purpose of your gear choice: the hunt.

Lenses are only the tools… but use them all!

Wide angle creates a perspective which bring the viewer in.

There is also satisfaction in getting an image from under the nose of the subject :)

Yes you could call it the hunt, less satisfying with a telephoto.

If you like 28mm try a 50mm on the other camera. I'm a 28mm (or equivalent) fan and find that 50 feels like using a telephoto and 85 is too long.

I don't want two cameras for street but worth considering for weddings.

Just by way of one decision I made on a trip to Venice while back. As a Canon user my 1st choice walkabout lens is my 24-105. However on that trip I hired a 10-22mm zoom and though I took the 24-105 it sat in the kitbag unused.

Now using a full frame if I was to go on another such city trip I would hire or buy ( ;) ) a 16-35mm. The choice of the 10-22 was not restrictive but in a way liberating in respect to "new view of the world" it gave me.
