Street Challenge: Finished. 340+ Images :)

Having just checked out the image only thread, it has to be said that there are some stunning photographs there. Well done to all who had a go.

Crickey @ No6! That guy looks like he's eyeing your camera and waiting for you to finish before attemping a mugging!

Well these are about the best of what I got today (well yesterday now) :( Not happy with them, but I want to take part, so here they are.

If I get chance to get out tomorrow and try some more these may change

I missed so many ops today ... sooooo frustrating. The worst one being a bride stood outside a hairdressers with her veil and tiara on, smoking a cig looking very apprehensive. She was on the wrong side of the road and we were driving down a busy one way street at the time, so totally missed the shot.

An excellent set there Gary, but just the one humungous error in my opinion. I simply must point out that you have #7 all wrong... that simply is not me, sorry... :):)

Hehehehe.....

That was soooo difficult...but quite enjoyable!

Mine are really rubbish - just some people in a street....but still posting a few just so i don't look chicken! ;)

Well done for taking up the challenge and going out there. It took me a while to pluck up the courage and get out there. Anyone care to comment on my efforts

Hi Ducky,

I still got loads to comment on here, just there are 130 :D

Going to go through them all though.....

2 I think is lovely, although would prefer eye contact. Its the best of the set. Its annoyingly difficult, having the courage to point your camera in someones face is insanely hard.

Gary.

Thanks Gary that's my fave too wasn't too keen on rest but wanted to post evidence of my attempt. It is insanely hard and took all my courage to do it. Really liking your images

A few I took yesterday (with this thread in mind). All are from Camden. I'm not particularly pleased with them to be honest, but I think I learned quite a lot!

Anyway, here we go:

50mm on FF is soooo perfect imho. I can really see why its used.

Can I just say I agree, not because I have a FF camera, but because I have a 50mm stuck to a 35mm film camera and the difference between that and using it on my crop sensor nikons is huge, can't wait to get our and use it in anger.

Some great stuff been posted and the best thing about this thread is not the excellent efforts from Pete, Duncan and the like [brilliant though they are], but seeing stuff from people that have never tried this before, you guys deserve a huge hug

I may add some more myself, off out today here in the 'grim' north AND I got an internet connection I wasn't expecting :woot:

 well said Yv, getting out of your comfort zone and trying new things is often not easy but if you learn something from the experience then it's never wasted. And most of us have kit that can be used for this so it's not requiring any investment other than time.

Hugs from me too

I like the first few B&W ones, especially evil intent. Some of them are quite boring though imo, just shots of people with nothing interesting happening e.g. 15,17,18,21 22. Nice photos but not "street enough"?

Maybe, I am probably putting too much weight on capturing an expression, and at times ignoring the rest of the photo. The great thing about this thread, we will I hope after all the images are in, and after the judging, be in a position to as a group, go through them and discuss what we have learned. What works, what doesnt work. I am enjoying getting out, and enjoying the confidence I am gathering with regards to lifting the camera and shooting strangers. I must develop my eye now, and spot actual shots, instead of quirky glances I guess?

Gary.

Imo you have got some good ones, a few really good. Yeah its all about the actual shots which you have a few. To be honest I dont know if I would have spotted anything it I wasnt with Duncans creative mind!

That will come with experience I guess. And a drive to improve, immerse yourself in the type of photos you want to get. Read about the photographers, and just get obsessed :D

Tis fun!

Gary.

Fabulous sets everyone ...wowzer, some seriously cool street shots to be found.
I can't go through commenting on everyone’s, just so many.
I've not had much of a chance to get myself snapping this week, nor today by the looks of my busy morning.... hopefully i'll get out next week, even if it is too late for this threads challenge I'll stick them up on it anyway.

Gary that first shot on this page hits the mark for me, something about the relation ship between the brilliantly tatty old tramp and then chatting stylish girls in the back ground, the excellent comp (and processing.) makes the man the main subject and the girls the secondary afterthought, this combo conjures a clear story for me.

The question is ;);) ...did you think anything like that? ...why did you take that shot?

Loving the two fireman shot btw ... simply brill with the hose line curving through.

Would this be a good time to suggest its time for a new 'street' forum. :D

Hi Mate,

With regards to the girls, no I did not spot them laughing. I saw my "target" and went after him. However...I did stop for the other though, as soon as I spotted the young girl looking, I wanted it as I felt there was a connection between young and old, innocent mind versus this "hulk" walking down the street. I really wondered what she must think.

Sometimes I spot these things, other times, you get lucky.

Gary.

Thing is that this is still only one or two threads. When GS overflows with street content then the mods would look to split them off. So far all the street chatter is nicely contained in two big threads.

Really like #14 Gary but I think your first set was better.

Thanks mate. I always try and post in order of preference, my best first, and it tails off :D Sometimes quite rapidly!

I would love to try the street stuff but when i think i might try that i feel so self conscious about the whole thing,so never tried it yet.:bang:

I went out the door & came back in.:)

My wife dont think so.:D;)

That was scary. This is rubbish, but I did it. :woot: Hope it qualifies or is it more 'portrait' ?

Thanks Gary and thanks for setting the challenge.

I've had a look at the images only thread and loads of them are worthy of being the winning shot. I don't envy the judges at all.

LOL - none of mine as good as some of you but I grabbed 20 mins in town yesterday and thought I'd give it a go. It's hard with a long lens on in town with the crowds so I can see why the short lens is recommended.

Oh and cheeky entry - well - I go that way every sunday to rugby, so someone had to do it :D

DUH - wrong thread.

ok a few more, not brilliant, was a bit miserable in the town centre and traipsing a cold fella and bored teenager round with you isn't conducive to waiting for the stuff you want, however, with no editing whatsoever other than crop/shrink [this puter isnt mine, so no editing programs], these are what I managed today 'away from home' All bascially straight from camera - D300, Sigma 50-150.

1 - spotted!
