Ok, I just found this on ebay, here are the reasons why I think its a bit dodgy...
"as i it came into my possesion from a relative" and then "The price has been set with a sensible reserve, less than I paid for it 3 months ago" bit strange
The account hasn't been used since 2006..
Dunno, the phrase "came into my possession" implies a gift or something and not bought but it could mean anything. He also seems to be very keen to go on about how genuine it is and how it's definitely his etc.
Maybe he nicked it from his relative! hehe

he lists the lens with cash on collection - so if you are keen visit and check it out - i think most people selling stolen goods would not want face to face contact - if you ask to visit to look and they say no then you may be right. It is worth a look as if that is a real canon 300mm case then that will be worth £2-300........
