While I was away in Venice the week before last I was just about to get on a bus and a group of 7-8 German Photographers entered the bus stop, one chap had 2 cameras attached to his camera strap. I'd never seen anybody with 2 cameras in this way so I said 'stereo photography?' he smiled and nodded his head. I gestured could I take a picture of his cameras, and he nodded again. So here it is.

As you may be able to see, he had the 2 cameras (2x Canon 500Ds) attached to a piece of metal and a strap of material wrapped around both lenses which allows them to focus together. He also had what looked like a remote cable release attached to the side of one of the cameras, which I assume was controlling both cameras.

Anybody here do stereo/3D photography?

And if so, how do you view the pictures?

I would have loved to have seen the results he got. :)

Thanks for the reply Digital_Clarity. :)

I hadn't thought of 3D video, but I suppose if the option is easily there then the chap would probably give it a go as well.

A very unusual thing to see when out and about anyway. :D

you can get viewong glasses to see stereo images but you can also do the stare at it and go cross-eyed thing. Not everyone can do it but it does work.

If you have a look on www.brianmay.com you can sometimes see stereo images there because he's a big fan. I think they are usually in the letter page or the soapbox

I didn't think it was going to be 'that' Brian May Andy.

Thanks for the links. I'll try and get cross eyed. ;)

I have noticed looking through some of the stereo pics on those site that there is some colour differences between some of the two images.

Oh yes. He's always been a big fan of photography.

It might be some pictures are edited to make the effect even greater - ie making a slight alteration to the levels of red and green in each image might make the stereo separation even more apparent. Just a thought.

I saw an american guy in York a couple of weeks ago with a setup similar to this.

His were mounted slightly differently though, they were on a "z" shaped bracket with one the right way up and one upside down!

Crazyness I tell ya!

I dont get it tbh :coat:

Edit: ok now my eyes hurt but I get it, works better with some than others.

Other than the old funny red plastic thing that showed stills from cartoons from my childhood, the other place that springs to mind that used this a lot is aerial recce photo interpretation - this might even be still in use today, it certainly was a few years ago...
