I have an endoscopy and full colonoscopy this Sunday.. partner that with us nearly into the 3rd month and I still haven't found any work I am having a 'life is against me' couple of weeks..

still, no doubt there are people worse off.. but I am a big bundle of worry at the mo.

Last August I was laid off, couple of weeks later my Doc noticed very low blood count, endo and colonoscopy ordered on the NHS, my worst nightmare where I live. Fearing the worst because of low blood count and the internet search saying it's likely/possible cancer had me a little nervous to say the least, so I feel your pain. I'd had these tests done a few (10) years earlier too, didnt enjoy them at all that time, so this time round I said I was terrified, they did both tests on same day and gave me some dollop/sedation (make sure you ask for it, be a big wimp) to ease my nerves, tbh it was a breeze, sailed through both tests without a care, very mild discomfort at worst, the worst bit (sorry) was the stuff I had to take the day before to clear my system of food etc. Tests came back all clear and the blood count was "just one of those things", been on iron tablets since and the count is back up (I think - need another test, but I feel fine now). Haven't found a job yet though.
So chin up matey, if/when the tests come back ok you'll be asking yourself what you were worried about and the job situ will become a bit less of a worry and you'll be feeling great about getting the all clear.
I'm 61 by the way and most test come back perfectly OK, so I was told.
Best of luck for Sunday, I am sure it will all be fine, just make sure they do the endo before the colonoscopy, or change cameras at the very least.

I had a camera up the bum last year, was painless and quite fun to watch ( I didn't get a seditive) the camera up the penis was a different matter lol

make sure they give you picolax as its easier to take than the 8 L of polyethalene glycol they originally gave me

Dont worry about the Colonoscopy, Even though its a one way road they use lots of lube and you dont feel a thing!! In all honesty the Picolax experience is more annoying, but still I got a kick out of drinking a pint of water and having is come out while sitting on the loo a minute or two later just as clean! AS IT WENT IN.... still makes for a good story. Clean as a whistle!

Once the colonoscopy has been done the walk back to the changing room will if your anything like me make you laugh too! I was particularly audible and got a clap from the nurses! LOL Go with confidence David! Worry will not add anything to your life all worry does is take away any remaining Joy you may have! You will be back working soon and wanting time off!!

Hoping for the best for you!!

yeah I have 4 litres of Klean Prep to get through Saturday afternoon/evening I have been advised to stay near the loo..

this pre test diet is very confusing, no milk but can have cheese, no red meats but can have grilled bacon and offal... bonkers
Not near the Loo ON the loo is my best advice, once it starts moving it dont stop :)

Or as it's better known....."Agent Picolax". :D

Full colonoscopy isn't any more intrusive than a sigmoidoscopy - they just go further up! Not something I'd want to go through every day (or week or month!) but certainly nothing to be afraid of. Staying near the karzi is very good advice and DON'T trust a fart for a day or 2. The walk back to your clothes is safe - you'll be empty apart from the gas they introduce to "distend the bowel for a clearer picture, Sir" and that fart can be epic!

Been smiling to myself all through this topic ( been there done that got the tee shirt ). Worst part the cleaning fluid apart from that all OK if you sit and sleep on the toilet all night or after about 15 minutes after starting the cleansing process.

This reminds me of this thread:

http://singletrackworld.com/2009/02/the-picolax-thread-returns/

Worth reading all of it lol
One of the best things ever put on the internet.
I had Picolax first time and it was sort of OK.
Last time I had about 3 gallons, or 13 ltrs to you youngsters, of some awful liquid that I had to make up, tasted awful, did awful things to my inside and basically just removed everything inside me from my throat to my ar.... other end. After the first dose the second just ran straight through without any apparent delay or change. It was the worst part of the whole (or should that be hole) experience. Then again I am a bloke and tend to exaggerate a little.

Good luck I have been through this procedure around 5 times......
Picolax is he'll on earth (sorry) make sure you are no further than a metre from the loo when you first take it!
After that you won't get off the loo for some time.....
Good idea is moisturising toilet paper as boy oh boy does it get sore!
Thing with the examination is I have always had the sedative and tbh it's fine.

Best of luck with the procedure and the results mate

Good luck with it David, Ive had two and whilst not pleasant its not too bad. Have the sedative though, I quite enjoyed that :)

Had the same experience with a extra twist.... a Barium enema chaser! They gave my very own 'throne' room after. Was..... errmmm.... spectacular.

Got the all clear so whilst an experience that was uncomfortable, a bit undignified too, it was not painful and the all clear of nastier possibilities, it was a big relief.... in so many ways!

painless and no seditive, sounds like a sigmoidoscopy?

no nerve endings in the gut, you only get a feeling of gas which passes when you fart it out lol

it was a a full large intestine scope I got done right up to the small intestine sphincter

I had some great advice from the nurses when I had the heameroids removed..... Leave your dignity at reception on the way in, pick it up on the way out.

They stuck me in the f*****g ENT ward after my hammeradicktome. They had no idea on what advice to give me to reduce the agony. It was only when I managed to waddle down the corridor to the appropriate ward that I got the simple advice that I needed. Nice Morphine spiders came and stole my pain!!!

Feel it too. I'm being made redundant end Feb, never happened before. Was told this in Jan, then 2 weeks ago broke my ankle whilst getting out of the car, had surgery last week to realign, fixed with 2 bloody screws too. Can't drive or do anything now until April, including togging.
Good luck though, these things are sent to test us.

Bloody hell they are

Good luck David, hope all works out well. In my 50's and just everyone around seems to have some medical issue of some description going on :-)

Been taking klean-prep for 40 mins now and already my insides are a gurgling..

See you on the other side :(

You may look back on the experience in time and just laugh. Just not now!!

Hope all goes well and you get fully sorted.

Hope usual service is resumed as soon as possible, David. As you might know by now, the anticipation is worse than the reality. I understand that some people even enjoy the experience. Hope the results are good too.

MiL's HH seems to be well controlled (well, the symptoms, if not the HH itself) with diet and antacid medication.

Enjoy refilling the guts! (BTW, possibly worth restocking the bowels with the good bacteria, I usually have a couple of days on the live yoghurt drinks.)

All looking a bit rosier than some of the outcomes. Good news, all looks manageable.

Glad it's looking better for you David!
Nods post is the way!

Good to hear.... at least it's not like a dentist telling you that your teeth are perfect but your gums have got to come out........

doesn't make a blind bit of difference. the bacteria will just get washed away as there is very little adhesion sites left in the gut. the flushing out removes any faeces left in the bowel not the bugs.

I'll take the advice given to me by my doctor rather than some random on the internet, thanks.
