KettleUndoubtedly there are few posters, boosting thier post count and we are dealing with them as they come to our attention. However as Yvonne has already mentioned, we have seen a slow decline over the months dare I say years, of the quality of feedback and critique comments being posted, and like Yvonne, I would also suggest, it's the social media mentality, of friends praising anything posted, from what the sprog is wearing today or last nights beer making a reappearance, creeping in to TP. Surely this is not the sort of attitude we as members should be encouraging on a forum dedicated to photography?
tbh in odd moments of boredom I've been actively looking for it , and there's really very little (with a couple of notable exceptions already reported), as Yv says there is a general laissez faire style of posting where people seemingly CBA to say anything useful, but that's sadly nothing new
The best thing any of us can do to resolve this one (other than reporting any stray cock wombles we encounter) is to up our own game in making worthwhile posts , particularly in the crit and beginners section - if enough of us lead by example this should drag the standard up and give the 'nice shot' brigade an object lesson in what good posting looks like
Not sure which content you are referring too, but I have no need to boost my post count, massive amounts of posts are helping people, sorting out problems as site staff, I've started hundreds possibly thousands of photo sharing threads and commented on just as many. Not that I have to justify my posting habits to youKettle

To be fair, I don't see anything wrong with saying 'nice shot', 'nice set' if I think it is
I'm just saying what I feel and don't always want to critique a pic.
I might not want to have a discussion...Thing is - 'Nice Shot' does nothing than to provide a warm fuzzy feeling, just click like. However, "Nice shot because I like the colours or the composition, or it reminds me of..." doesn't really take much more and opens up the discussion.
>>>I might not want to have a discussion...<<<
Clicking 'like' if there are several pics might not be the best option.
There are no rules to say I must discuss and critique.
Warm and fuzzy is fine by meand sometimes has a place.

If you read some of my posts you'll see that I do 'discuss'.To be fair, it is a discussion forum![]()
No social media influence here, WYSIWYG!Perhaps, although do you not think that as a member on here we have a certain responsibility?
We can'r complain about the standard of posts, or the quality of information if we aren't actively engaging.
Or perhaps it is (as I've perused a few times) that this is just a social media influence.
It's a sign post, right? Some people will most certainly find it helpful especially if they have a quantity of chemical waste they no longer needSorry... not helpful at all...
To be honest, one of the things that has REALLY reduced the standard of posts is the use of the mobile app. - hear me out folks, it's not just a luddite rant. By the nature of the lack of a proper keyboard, people posting from phone apps DO tend to post far shorter replys to any discussion than they would if they were sat comfortably in front of their pc. I know it certainly works that way with me, either on the mobile or my tablet. I spend most of my time re-correcting inaccurate autocorrect suggestions whenever I try and post with anything other than a PC, so anything from me, on a small device will be terse at best.
Now, if we're getting regular members posting one-line replies, it starts to become the "default position" - especially for either newer members, or for people who haven't set foot outside the classifieds for the last three years after getting their requisite number of posts - and people start to think that "Nice Shot" or "Excellent" is good enough, where, really all it's doing is blowing smoke up the OP's fundament.
Reading this on my HTC and it's certainly a screen fullUpdate: Just looked on my phone it is indeed 12 lines long.
Am I alone in thinking that since the change in the rules regarding classifieds a lot of the replies to posts have been irrelevant and trivial comments obviously just made for the sake of upping the count?:nailbiting:
I still feel I have so much to learn that I tend to leave the more technical comments and critique to those more experienced.

What about some posting 5 photos in 5 separate posts on the same thread straight after each other..?
All just to keep having access to the Classifieds, it's not as though the classifieds are bursting at the seams with very low cost items. Prices on here are pretty average really. So I don't know why people make such a fuss over the Classifieds. I think I may have placed one advert in nearly three years! Or maybe two adverts![]()
And there speaks someone who has lost his classified privilegesAm I alone in thinking that since the change in the rules regarding classifieds a lot of the replies to posts have been irrelevant and trivial comments obviously just made for the sake of upping the count?:nailbiting:
depends if it's "telling a story" or just "gratuitous carpet bombing" of pictures I guess...
Examples ??
I replied to 3 posts in there trying to buy something before joining the staff, at which point I only venture into there to break up fights... perhaps its because of that jaundiced view, that I doubt I'd ever buy or sell anything on there.
I just felt it unnecessary to post like this.. Even if the recent rule change came into place..

Why feel bad? Your posting habits are nothing to be ashamed of.Oh I feel bad now for posting, as a new member I wanted to join in and become inspired by images and information,
Some people just like to watch and in this forum some people just like to read. Why force them?
People are different. C'est la vie...
that's fine - however IMO critique has FAR more to give than just a technical appraisal of an image... Even if you don't feel you could give a technical appraisal, there are other ways to interact - a good image should provoke a reaction in the viewer - tell the person posting the image what YOU saw in it, how it made you feel, what it made you think of, or where it took your imagination...
