Spartacus’s 52s (continued) Week 52 Texture

I like both your communication shots. If I had to choose I'd go for 2.

Self is really well framed shot, I tried something like this but just couldn't get it to work like you have.

Sorry had another busy week, and did some plumbing work over the weekend for a relative. So it was a quick grab shot for me again. I’m sure it’s been done many times before and made to look 100% better than this...:(

But I’m out of time again and not wanting to fall behind now we are so close the finish line...

So here you have my interpretation of Organised...

Organised.jpg

Also I’ve notice some talk on this site about the poor quality of using Photobucket to download your photo’s...

I have to say it’s the only one I’ve ever used, and now I’m wondering if all the shot that I’ve put forward to this site are not that good on your screens. I’ve always thought it was ok, but I’ve nothing to compare it too...

Excellent! The DOF is brilliant, as is the composition.

In regards to photobucket, it's not THAT bad that you would notice it straight off. But as an example (hope Fi doesn't mind me linking her photos) take a look at her eyelashes and iris between the 2 photos to see the difference:

It's subtle, but pix.ie pips it at the post for sharpness.

Sharp, great dof and colour and an interesting take on the theme Marcus!

The contrast between the cards and the surface you've shot them on really stands out for me and gives the shot super-oomph :)

I like a lot :D!

And your self - what a cracker :) Thats again a good and original take on a tricky theme!

I'm sorry - I need to go back and comment on lots of your shots but I'll start with this week... because I think it's fab!

Great use of DOF and the colours / composition are also spot on. The black BG really makes this as well

RE Photobucket - I've been using it for ages and sometimes it seems fine, but on others there is a noticable drop in quality once I've uploaded and posted the shot to the forum

I'm going to stick with Pix.ie from now on - my photobucket account is a mess anyway so it seems a good time to start afresh.

EDIT - just noticed Conor's post - link away if it helps!

 I like it.
Nice, simple, clear and to the point. Definitely on theme.
I actually really like the composition too - the way the cards are stepped and the angle leads into the shot.

I think I'd have preferred the focal point to be on the King, with maybe a bit more of that card in frame to the left of the shot . . . I love the way that the dof works with the layout to draw your eye in, but that oof King at the front just keeps catching my eye and pulling me back

A minor niggle though and for an awful theme you've done brilliantly!
In fact this is my shot of the week so far

Excellent shot Marcus, it may only be a grab, but it's on theme, well lit, well thought out, and works very well

I agree with SarahLee - in that I like it....
But I disagree with SarahLee - in that I think the obvious shot was to have the front card in focus...sometimes it's good to go for something less obvious - does nt always work and does nt suit everyone...but for me it's one of the best of the bunch this week....

I really like this - it is simple, effective, clean and bright...and the thin red line in the border is the final touch to set it off. I like the focus placing on the queen - maybe because it is just about on a third.

It works very well for me!:clap:

Nice close up shot and spot on WB. How did you light it?

Thank for the great feed back... lighting was easy really, managed to get a very short burst of sunlight... the weather changed late afternoon on Sunday and I was still struggling for a idea. Noticed the light changed rushed up the loft with the window light in the roof...

Played around with different cards on a black board... had about 10 minutes before the light went. Back on the computer to look to see what I had got...:gag: mostly rubbish, but liked this one...so...

Cropped
Balanced the white/black with levels
Touch of saturation
Tiny bit of sharpening

Oh and clone out all the little dark specks you get on cards when you use a macro...

and yes I did want the Queen in focus...it's as always get the eyes right and the rest will follow... (for me anyway;))

Can't add anymore, it's a really well composed shot and the processing really makes it pop, top marks from me!

Well I’m early for once on this week’s theme...:D

This was a tricky one and I’m very busy again this weekend, so I’ve come up with a few ideas today...

The first one was today while eating my dinner...strange but true...:gag:

Confusion1.jpg

The second was while I was putting away a CD I was listening to...

Confusion2.jpg

The third is a really cheating...this is a genuine shot I took about 18 months ago while out with the then new camera. It was taken at a place called Saltash Passage. Which is next to the Tamar and Brunel bridges. This was posted on this site well over a year ago and some of you might remember it. I really don’t know where he/she came from but was eating the bread that people were feeding them.
It’s a photo I like and wanted to share with you, but you really don’t need to comment on it, it was only for fun...

Confusion3.jpg

Self, excellent shot technically (but I hate eye shots!! :gag:) well done

Organised, simple super shot. Spot on DoF :clap:

Confused, all good shots , but the CD on the turntable does it for me.

Great shots for confused! Although I shouldn't be looking, I haven't come up with anything for this yet!

Very good Marcus... Three very good ideas and shots. I think I prefer the first one, the CD player has too much around it, the walls etc for my liking. I do really like the Goose though.

Three great shots - and those first two are great ideas too :) Idea wise #2 wins for me, shot wise its the soup :)

I think the CD shot would have beneifited froma close up withe arm resting on the CD (but hindsights great and I couldn't even come up with such a great idea so who am I to talk :D)

And #3 - took two looks from me - thats a great spot!

Three for the price of one this late on in the 52 is fantastic value, Marcus. Well done.

You and Jill were clearly sharing a brain for your first shot. Very clever idea, imho. :)

I had to look at the second one carefully before the penny dropped and I noticed the CD. :amstupid: Another clever shot.

The third shot made me laugh out loud. Very well observed and captured. I don't care when you took it, it's a start shot, imo.:clap::clap:

Jean

They are all good but I particularly like the second - stark and very dramatic!

Hi Marcus, guess who's back

Self - :razz::razz::razz:

I still don´t know what you look like but it´s a great take on the theme and well composed and shot.

Organised - Clean, simple, well focussed, spot on theme

Confusion - See what you mean about sharing a mind :D I like all 3 but #2 made me laugh and I had to look at #3 3 times to figure out what the confusion was so I really can't choose between them. A real treat with 3 shots to choose from Marcus.

wow those cards look big , nicely done

For confusion i like the CD the best, although nothing wrong with the other shots just a preference.

I struggled to get one shot and you come up with 3 brilliant ones !!!!!

I really can't decide which one I like best.

Love the idea of No.1 and the composition is spot on, but No.2 beats it for me for the colours and PP (although I'd like to see the carpet cropped out of the foreground on it) . . . and No.3 really made me smile. Lovely spontaneous shot and such a good fit for the theme even if it wasn't taken specifically for it.

Grrrrrrr . . . just can't decide. I like them all !

Is it me or is it getting harder to find time to devote to these last few 52s of the year?:(

Guess with Christmas around the corner now it’s going to get even tougher over the next couple of weeks...

But still managed to get a photo in, so I’m happy...up to a point...

I have no music background like some of our talented 52s, so never learnt how to play anything, but I know what I like to hear and that’s good enough for me...:)

So for this project I called on the help of a relative with something I think is an amazing skill...

Because of poor lighting and the fact I don’t know what I’m doing I hope I managed to bring to life a little magic of this wonderful instrument and use the lead in lines to good effect...

So here you have it my take on this week’s theme...

Music.jpg

Well it's bang on theme anyway! And a great photo too . Only really minor niggle I'd have is the cushion at the far end is ever so slightly distracting. I'd have moved them to the far end of the sofa so that they still were caught in the reflection, but didn't collide with the end of the piano. Still a great shot though! Love the sheet music and photo in the background. Really gives it a vintage feel.

I love the shot..the angle and viewpoint the paintings position and the light! Like Conor though I find the cushion just a tad distracting!

But nonetheless a lovely image Marcus! And a lovely looking Joanna too :)

Nice shot..classical looking. The painting on the wall adds to the photo too somehow.

Excellent Marcus . The lighting, the colours, lovely piano, and that Vettriano painting in the background adds nicely, even more so for it's content. I have to agree about the cushion though, a little distracting.

Lovely lighting and beautifully composed (apart from ...!).. The Vettriano is perfect - it really adds to the whole.:clap:

Very good shots!
Communication - awesome shots, love them!

Self Very very good - brilliant idea and captured it great!

Organised, well done!

Confusion, cd turntable is great, the goose cracked me up

Music - cracking shot!

Confusion, of the three the cd shot gets my vote..... I love my vinyl

Music, I love the composition and the processing, I'd be proud of that shot!

Well this theme has turned out to be a real Pain...

With little time and even less inspiration I give you my terrible attempt for this week...:gag:

Even though I have two for you this week, please don’t feel you have to say anything about the second one, plus I should warn you now it contains a nasty broken leg...and yes I was to blame for it happening...:(

Pain.jpg

Brokenleg.jpg

and please can we have a easy one for next week, I'm kinda busy and got things to do...

Oh and Merry Chritmas...

MerryChristmas2010.jpg

AW - I love the gingerbread men! Great idea and arrangement.:clap:

And Merry Christmas to you too!
