Spartacus’s 52s (continued) Week 52 Texture

Love the composition on this the sand leads you in nicely and there is loads to look at :D

This week’s subject has left me without any real inspiration, so it going to have to be a fill in shot for this week...:help:

I’ve look for all sorts of things that would fit the theme and they just were not suitable to photograph when it came to it...:shake:

So here you have it my Grunge shot for this week, not much to say other than let’s hope for a better theme next week...:gag:

grunge.jpg

I take my hat off to anyone who makes this their best photographic week...

Well it certainly looks grungey :) The 2 things that appeal to me on this shot are the framing branches - makes me feel like I'm there and peeking through and the clean lines of the houses behind which are nicely juxtaposed against the grungey mid ground :)

Not at all bad for a 'filler' Marcus :)

Thanks John, but it was a wash out for me this week...

and I was lucky to spot this shot, there was a element of planning in as much I checked the tide times to get low tide and get as much grunge in the shot as possible...

I think you did the best you could with the scene avaialble - it certainly says Grunge to me and the composition leads your eye through the shot. I'm with John - not a bad "filler" at all!

Yep - it was definitely not an easy theme :(

Plenty of grunge exposed by the tide there and lots of mud so I'd say that it's a good fit for the theme
(Honestly . . . you have absolutely no idea how bad my inspiration for this week was, so I'm very impressed!)

Very nice framing with the foreground tress. The curve of the bank and the row of houses lead your eye nicely around the shot. For something you're calling a filler it's very good

I really like the trees framing the shot, giving an almost peeping feel to the shot. Well spotted and got. A good fit for the theme too.

Just caught up with your 52 here.
Mono: really cool shot. I dont mind graveyards but there is certainly something spooky about this one. Maybe it is the tone of the B&W conversion..eg looks a little cold (that is not a criticism I think it really suits that photo).
Season: I really like that. It is a very sharp and vibrant shot. I like the fact there is sand, sea, blue sky and greenery. Oh, as well has happy beach folk soaking up the sun. Also like the information that you provided about the tractor trips etc.
Grunge: Would have preferred a closer shot of the mud and tyre but a nice shot all the same.

Well I think you've done well to interpret this theme and it works well. I agree with John about the composition, nicely done!

Well done, Marcus. It was a lousy theme and I think you've done it proud - even more so if you think it's just a 'filler' shot. At first I thought it was a bit dark/underexposed, but on reflection, if it was bright and sunny it wouldn't look so 'grungy' - so nicely judged imho.

Jean

Catchup for me!

Season - excellent capture for an uninspired week! As mentioned, I could see this on a postcard. Well done!

Grunge - Excellent filler! I love the oof leaves almost blocking the shot. Excellently done

fancy a swim later anyone?
I don't think so!

:)

so on that basis it fits the theme perfectly....

the 52 challenge is so much more about interpretation and having some fun working out what to take a photo of than it is about creating a technical perfect photo every week.!

Sorry I'm late Marcus.

Season really conveys summer to me and I  the perspective with the beach drawing you in to the island. And then you look around and there is so much to see and wonder about. In case you are wondering I  it.

Grunge, for a 'fill in' shot you underestimate it (so what's new ;)). It does what it says on the tin. Definitely grunge, and, again, I love the way the eye is led into the scene. Well done sir :clap:

Sorry to be posting later than normal but it’s been a busy week but managed to get the photo I want from when I first saw the theme Respect.

I have the upmost regard and respect for all are service personnel, and want to show the true cost of the work that few of us would be able or willing to undertake.

These are just a few of the many reminders of the sacrifice these brave people have made on our behalf, and are still making today.

To me this is not a well composed shot to get in a nice foreground and tighter crop, as I wanted to get as many headstones in, believing nobody should be left out just to please the photographer’s picture.

I love that shot. Calm, peaceful and yet full of meaning. The position of the camera puts a great track through the middle and the colourful spots of flowers scattered through fit perfectly. Spot on Marcus

The colours and composition of this shot are great - the sentiment spot on!

If I had to nit pick (sorry!) its that the verticals look a tiny tiny bit off a degree or 1/2 a degree CW would do it :)

(I feel a right mean git now saying that :()

Otherwise a belter! :)

I'm a bit lost for words with this one.

Such a calm, peaceful image but evoking such powerful emotions.
The sentiment and reason for the choice of composition are spot-on, but even without an explanation the shot itself would say it all. No need for something "arty" to put the message across, in fact that would feel almost disrespectful.

It's an interpretation that I thought about trying, but I just couldn't find a shot with the sensitivity to do it justice. Well done!

I think the composition is spot on and the picture is a perfect example of what respect means. I said in my own thread that to many people think respect is a right, respect is earned and these graves and the thousands / millions like them, for me, deserve the greatest respect of all.

Holy crap Marcus, you nailed that one! If there's one thing I'm learning about photography is that it takes a real skill to convey such a strong emotion both by content and excellent composition. And your respect photo is a perfect example of how to do this. Top class, love it, can't compliment it enough!

This turned out to be a better subject than I first thought, it’s a fine line between friendship and relationship sometimes, so this is properly the sort of shots I’ve taken.

Yes sorry it’s a two shot week for me. These two shot are different in as much taken on two different days, two different couples and the second is one of those shots in a million that you could never take again.

Friendship one...

Just a couple out for an afternoon walk, but plenty of things for the eye to wonder on to...

Friendship1.jpg

Friendship two

Again another couple, starting to feel a bit of a perv at this point...:D

The friendship was suppose to be the dog and owners...the dog was sat down when I saw the shot so lined it up and the dog moved...damn I thought that was a missed opportunity, she was looking in to the young man’s eyes ready for a romantic kiss. But when looking at the shot on the computer, I couldn’t stop laughing...the dogs tongue lined up so well with the young man face I felt I had to share it with you...

I LOVE no.1.
A very interesting shot. As you said lots for your eye to wander to.

I particularly like the way that the posture of the young couple in the main part of the photo is echoed by the older couple walking towards us on the right. Even the bags the women are carrying and the way their left arms are bent is similar.
Lucky coincidence or very clever shot? Either way I love that little detail and you could read a lot of meaning into it.

Second shot :D
What timing! Absolutely great

Yep, No1 for me too. Captured very nicely.

Also think your respect is on the button too. very poignant.

Jon

oh the rude things I could put RE: photo two.....sighs....

no.1 though, good solid shot....only 1 niggle really...I'd have composed them slightly to the left a bit so that we got their full shadows in....just my personal preference though.

damn I keep looking at no.2 and smirking lol

I really like that Marcus. Excellent first shot, I agree with Sarah on the second couple, that was one of the first things I was drawn too. I wonder if you had moved them to the left, you might have got a third couple in a little further down...

:lol::lol::lol: @2....

Love that first photo! Works on so many levels. Really well done on that

The first shot is the best the second shot is the funniest!

Agree about the really minor niggle on the shadows on the first, but it is only minor!

No 1 is great - so much to take in and the two couples as had been said work well :)

No 2 - hehe well spotted and timed :)

Two very good shots :) and spot on theme!

Well not looked at any other 52s this week so far so don’t know how the rest of you have got on, but it’s not been a subject that’s not given me much inspiration...

Tried a few things that I thought would work but they just didn’t look that good in the end...:gag:

Now you may be thinking the same thing about my effort here, but in all honesty I’m not that happy with it but it a sort of ok shot and I don’t really want to spend any more time on this week’s theme...:nono:

I tried to get the fresh early morning look with the light just hitting the shot, still not worry I’m sure next week’s theme will be a walk in the park...

FreshStart.jpg

Just catching up, after a few days in your part of the world. Very nice it was, too. :)

Friendship: This really is a beautifully constructed shot. The 2 couples almost look as though they're walking towards each other, and being fanciful, you could imagine that the couple in the background are the couple in the forground 40 years on. Lovely, lovely shot.

Friendship #2 is priceless. As you say, you couldn't have posed this one. Even the young lady's nose is lined up for the big lick!:lol::lol:

Fresh Start: Yes, this does have that 'fresh, first thing in the morning' look about it, despite being an autumnal subject. Good detail, too.

Jean

Catching up...

Respect - Lovely shot and exactly what sprang into my mind when the theme came up. Very composed but with a lot of impact.

Friendship #1 - Seems simple at first glance and then you realise there is actually a lot going on in the background - particularly the older couple on the left. Great DOF too.

Friendship #2 - :D

Fresh Start - I like the dew and the colours but it's not your finest work. I'm with you on canning this weeks theme - it's been a stinker imo! :D

Your Fresh Start has a crisp Autumnal feeling to it Marcus - earthy colours which i like - difficult theme- and I haven't even tackled friendship yet :)

Marcus, fresh start, a take I also thought of, only didn't bother in the end, and you've done a nice job on it...(it was a stinker this week...) The only thing I would say, is be careful what you wish for... or in a couple of weeks time, we'll end up with a theme "A walk in the park!"....

Love the second friendship shot  Brill

Fresh Start! That was one of my ideas! Well done, really like that, esp with the slightly frosty looking leaves! Fab

Respect - what a moving picture, and the sentiment behind it too. That said, I really like the composition. Sometimes, like this one, breaking the rules produces a great shot :clap:

Friendship - spoilt for choice here. The first one gives you loads to look at and also shows that hand holding is not just for the young uns
The second one is just so funny, and could almost fit for Passion too ;)

Fresh Start - it's that time of year, well in the UK anyway :D And for me it's not the fresh start of the day but the fresh start given to the soil over the winter as the leaves begin to decay, preparing the way for the new shoots of spring. Not your greatest picture but definitely fits the theme.

I like the idea, not sure you've quite pulled it off to be honest. Perhaps a slightly wider angle would have been better.
To me the brown leaves signifies the end of things, but I suppose that presents the chance for a fresh start too. I've defeated my own argument haven't I!:bonk:
