Sony NEX-5 vs Leica M8

and nikon d3x is more of a lexus LFA . very expensive, fast and has loads of technology, too much I would say.

M9 is a Morgan aero supersports - fast, classy and smart, very exclusive, but not as fast as lfa or other supercars.

I like these obscure car references. Leica is a Morgan Aero for sure

How about an Audi RS6 for the Nikon, for brutal all round capabilty at vaguely affordable money?

I'm confused. What is the 0-60 of the NEX-5?

Slow...

The thing abour rangefinders for me is that they're nice to use but I'd still say that a GF1 is faster and more responsive in more situations. :)

I like having a film camera available and I have a rangefinder (Bessa R with 35mm f2.5) a SLR (Canon 300 with 20-35mm) and a few compacts but when I go out chances are that it'll be a digital that I take with me :)

I'm a car freak ! :D

rs6 - yes, sort of. but I would like to think of it as a D3 , as D3x is more dedicated to IQ performance etc. so maybe a r8 v10 ? still the same V10 engine from lambo, just a snappier body, better in the corners.

0-60 nex5 - haven't tried. hard to tell. something's going to be slow there either cornering or launching in start ! :D

mmm.. bessa ! which one I,II,III,IV ?
I just learned about panasonic L1 and LC1 I would forget about leica if I got one of these !

It's just a Bessa R and beyond that I don't know. It does take nice pictures and it's nice and bright too.

it's no cropped sensor you know !
could it be the first one ? m39 mount, silver finish ? no aperture priority.

still a beautiful camera, I would get bessa, minolta cle etc over leica any time. well, because of the price really.

It's silver and black and the lens is scew mount. It doesn't have any modes like aperture or shutter priority. You set the shutter speed using a dial on the camera body and you set the aperture on the lens. It does have an exposure meter, two little lights and an arrow.

It's a lovely thing to use and I don't intend ever changing the lens as it seems about perfect, just as the 20mm f1.7 does on my GF1 :) which I see as a modern version of the quality non SLR's we used years ago.

I was expecting to see the same sensor from NEX-5 in Nikon D3100 but it looks like it is slightly different.

23.4x15.6mm (NEX-5) vs 23.1x15.4mm (D3100).

Can it be the same sensor and if it is so why the size is different? Who is cheating us?

SLRmagic just launched a new 35mm f/1.7 lens with E-mount. This lens works without adapter and has been designed for NEX cameras. SLRmagic sent a presentation text to mirrorlessrumors:

“There are not much lenses in the NEX E-mount so far. We have a 35mm f1.7 lens that sell pretty well in m4/3 mount. We occasionally receive emails requesting for e-mount version of the lens. It is now available for pre-order and ships by Sept 10th. We will have 100pcs initially and offer free shipping as well. Cost just under $100. Hope there will be others interested in this lens. Our lens is optimized for NEX so there is no vignette in the photos and does not need cropping.

The NEX range look to me like something you build by collecting bits from out of cornflake boxes.....put so many bits together and you end up with an alpha :)

I tried my friends NEX but it just didn't feel right to me and also i think with these models that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.....horses for courses i guess.
