Not so much as the weird replies.
People selling items that are broken, for the same price it can be bought new. Weird some people can't understand that.![]()
If a model has been discontinued and you want to repair one, a broken one is a good source of components. I frequently sell broken film cameras for astounding amounts. Some incomplete cameras and sometimes with faults, get listed for ridiculous prices. Sometimes dearer than what you can buy new.![]()
Do buyers have no agency? If you have replacement parts it can be incredibly useful to buy a faulty unit or something with a missing charger, they're not forcing you to do anything and if they're very clear on the condition there's no dishonesty.
Regarding prices, most buyers want a discount so most sellers will list items for prices higher than they expect to sell for, if they'd posted it lower they would then have to sell even lower so not much point criticising them for the price, if you don't like it... don't buy it.
Not forgetting those sellers listings will also face fees and taxes so it's entirely possible it's not worth selling for less.
Maybe people are simply offering, what they think the item is worth. Maybe some sellers do accept the offer. You can put any price on an item, but doesn't mean its the going rate.
My neighbour put a silly price on his house and wondered why it didn't sell
Are people buying these knackered cameras?
Who said they were forcing me to do anything? Where did I mention dishonesty?![]()
LOL really!
Let me just tweak a few things. Added ..You said they're taking the mick, my mistake then clearly you were implying they were being completely honest.
What's laughable is you thought this was a valid complaint in the first place.
I really don't understand why someone is taking the 'mick' for advertising something incomplete on an auction site, After all you're a big boy and can make your own mind up whether or not to bid. Just smile and move on its not worth getting worked up about and just feel smug when you've avoided paying too much for something incomplete or broken that you weren't going to buy anyway.
By asking ridiculous prices...
I really don't know why I bother.

Oh no, not you again...The first lesson in marketing (or it was on the course I did): the correct retail price of a good is the price the public are willing to pay for it. How do you determine what people are willing to pay? By offering the good at a given price and seeing if anyone buys it
Not me again? I am always here somewhere.Oh no, not you again...![]()
Just spotted something on that certain auction site. No battery, no charger, no box etc. Just working out what all those bits costs, when I have worked that out. I will make an offer, and explaining that those items will need to be bought.![]()
certain auction site
Why not just name the site, this isn't the BBC
I have bought used camera stuff on there before. But I know my price limit beforehand & I think the most I bought (value) was a 135L about 5 years ago......
Selling seems to be a pain now though with all the siding with the buyer etc I read a post recently where someone bought a camera body (Sony A??) & then two months later claimed the base was damaged & eBay sided with them & the seller ended up however much £££ out of pocket....!!
I do buy lots of bits & pieces on there though. Certainly worth it for that for sure.
