Yes
We are not having turkey this year for the first time.
We had a trial run of a Delia Smith recipe in a Sainsburys magazine, the recipe was turkey breast steaks wrapped around a generous portion of chestnut stuffing and held together by wrapping them with smoked pancetta slices, baked slowly in the oven...............only we used chicken instead and it was delicious :)

It only took 45 minutes to cook:), it can be served whole or in slices and looks very professional either way:thumbs:.

So that is what we are having, no more stuffing our faces with turkey for days on end, personally I think chicken is a nicer tasting meat.

I won't be, though that is nothing new :p Have never had turkey for Christmas....have never had turkey!

We'll be around the in-laws this year so it'll be pheasant and goose. Not a great fan of either but as I'm not cooking it ...........:D

Pork this year, roasted to perfection with great crunchy crackling...

& all the other bits as well obviously...

with Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert...mmmmmmm

You had the pigeon frozen eh Mal? :D

I'll be having turkey cos I like it. But have to agree chicken is probably the better tasting meat. I usually end up buying a massive turkey and then having cold turkey sarnies and salads through until new year.

Wonder what Mrs Bucket will have to say about this... ;)

No turkey for me, I'm not fond of it anyway and this year I get what I want instead of going along with the rest of the family - bliss :D

Nah. That's cos you shop at aldi and their discount turkeys are only that cheap cos they don't include the wings and legs :D

How very dare you!! Aldi?:puke:

Roast Beef for us this year, not a fan of Turkey and the kids had it at school.

Roast beef or pork, for us we never have turkey, its over priced over rated, and why does everyone buy the biggest they can, then you end up eating it for days, till your sick of it yuk,

I am cooking turkey and ham and chicken and beef.:D

We will have a feast.:woot:

hehe. Look here mrs bucket, we all know you spell Netto "m&s".

Im going to slap that head next time I see you :bat:

Fabs: nice one about the spam and Matt

err... Payment for the advert?

I can't quite get my head around a christmas curry. Something doesn't quite align...

You must try it - spent years having the family round for traditional xmas food, and while the family get-together was fun, the food and the hassles always detracted from the enjoyment, so now we all go out. Mum's having Sea-Bass, Me and the wife are having a nice hot curry, and my two girls are split - the 11 year old likes the traditional Turkey dinner and the 8 year old prefers a curry, and onion baji's.

The rest of the family are also split with some having a curry, some not.

You must try it.

Err, no thanks. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to Christmas. I'm also observant of the Christian aspect of it too, so to me it would seem odd to be consuming a meal not typically associated with Christianity on the most important date in the Christian calendar.

That's not to say I don't like a good curry as i'll often go out and partake, just not at Christmas. Each to their own though eh? :)

Anyway, curry is for the 4th day after xmas when you get desperate to do something different with the left over turkey :D

Hey now Heppers, you should be having Nigella's tajine with some unleavened bread, you old traditionalist, you.

"Sheep, sheep, sheep, sheep ... crocodile!" (Fast Show Chanel 9 Nativity)

I thought Turkey was only 'adopted' by Christianity in the 15th or 16th century , but i could be wrong (Probably)

Like you say - each to there own :)

In which case it was not taken up as a Christmas tradition in this country until about 50 years ago as it was introduced from the US as a much cheaper alternative to goose. :)

Thanks for the clarification :)
