Difference is most of us support the police, what they're trying to do and would be happier if they were allowed to do it. Neither can he have it both ways. He can't question the Police integrity and then complain about the same treatment, even if it were true.
I don't often feel any great desire to defend the Police, Dod. In my experience as a London business owner and home owner and general law abider and occasional victim of crime, they're pretty inefficient - although they're also hidebound by procedures - and I personally have experienced both their lazyness and cowardice!
Having said that the Police are all we have and this is one week when they get my support totally!
This isn't a situation that can be resolved with discussion, who do you speak to?
But nor is it a situation that can be resolved by simple brute force. The thing that has shocked me, watching on my TV and apparently shocked DemiLion out on the street was the pure volume of evil and violence thats around and, obviously, the numbers of the rioters.
There are lots and lots of them, all over town. Theyre all despicably wrong but there are too many to deal with without some form of greater discussion, negotiation and social change.
The funny thing is, I think the social change might now start to happen automatically. I can forsee this week causing a vast backlash against the underclass just as people have turned out today to clean up last nights mess. I suppose that's the best example so far of The Big Society in action and this rioting could turn out to be David Camerons governments Falklands War
But then again if it gets much worse, my Plan B is just to quit London altogether and join a hippie commune in Scotland!
