So there will be a royal wedding next year, any takers?

Any date yet?

Remind me to keep the television turned off :gag:

from now till then :(

No, just tonight and on "the big day".

Mind you, if we can squeeze a public holiday out of it, then I'm all for it

And long after - ad nauseum :(

Grumpy old sods if your mates daughter was getting married you would wish them all the best so why not wish Will's and Katie the same,Its not their fault that they were born to Upper Class and Royal families

I'm sure that they'll go for the small approach and I can't see it been a national holiday , it has never happened before for a wedding from what I recal . So no extra day off work sadly .

Yep Prince Andrew has just phoned and booked me lol

Oh that's rank.... Give the Royals a hard time but you're happy to "celebrate" if you get a day off....

Good on them I say, the Middleton family are not uber high class, but she's a lovely girl and to be fair, William seems a fairly straight, level headed sort of bloke.

The Royal family is part of what makes us British and I for one wouldn't want to see us made a "republic", I mean, look at the state of France !!

Steve

I agree with the above The Royal Family is a very British thing that helps define us

English thing and they (royal family) are german and greek so can't see how they define us :nono:

English.... 100% Anglo Saxon with just a dash of Viking :D

I wish them well, just hope they remember the vows and remain faithful to each other.

I don't feel defined by the Royal Family - they are a bit of an anachronism tbh. I'm not anti-royalist, but I find it difficult to care, the press coverage is already way ott.

OK I may be cynical but I wonder if the Government are taking the opportunity to bury some bad (for us) legislation today.

You're even more cynical than I am

Don't thing even this story could cover up the torture headline

Tbh, I wish them well, but the notion that we'll all suddenly feel happy and lifted from our current worries, because a royal is getting married, is a bit over optimistic :cuckoo:

I daresay some of the homeless might feel happy if invited for a free meal at the reception, can't see it happening though.

funny how all the important world news seemed to not happen today - because of a couple of royal pillocks! do we care?

Many people do care. If you dont like the royal family just ignore them, aside from days like this they do not dominate news items. they do give a lot of pleasure to many people though.

This will also give the economy a big boost. The suppliers will be benefitting as will employees. There will be all sorts of tat manufactured which people will buy, especially tourists which is money coming into the country.

who really gives a crap TBH

Well it was breaking new in the USA, and the TV reporter in the states said some American will come over just to be here on the day.

So I guess that
Americans
British Tourist Board
London Tourist Attractions
London Hotels
Which ever TV company get the coverage right to sell all over the globe, remember an estimated 1 billion people saw the Charles - Diana wedding.

Then there are all the souvenir manufactures that will make and sell goods, all helping the British economy.

So lots of people give a crap.

As you properly have heard Prince William is to marry Kate Middleton.

So who wants to capture their day? :D

I read on Wilkepedia that "Kate" was to become a professional photographer

In September 2007 it was reported that Middleton was planning to give up her job as an accessories buyer to become a professional photographer. Some months later, it was announced that she intended to take private classes with internationally renowned photographer Mario Testino, who had taken several well-known photographs of Diana, Princess of Wales, and her sons. Middleton and Testino apparently were introduced by Prince William. Testino later denied that Middleton was going to be working for him or had ever worked for him

Perhaps she will cover the wedding herself......................

I heard it is going to be covered by the guy Cameron just 'fired'

Or maybe they should book Bryan Adams and get the entertainment thrown in as well.

I just hope they stay together, too many broken royal marriages are left in their wake.
Hello magazine shoot ? not likely .....Tatler maybe.

Interesting one this, a royal wedding but no date set, announced at the same time as a big fuss about compensation to the Guantánamo Bay inmates? Call me suspicious but it smells fishier than a cods shower cap to me.

Not really. That all happened under last gment so no reason for this to try to hide it.

There were Bank Holidays for both Princess Anne's and Prince Charles' weddings.

If you want to spout off about the Royal Family's bloodlines, at least get it right. The Duke of Edinburgh's family may have held the throne of Greece, but they were of German and Danish descent, not Greek in the slightest.

As for the matter of Scottish blood, ever heard of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon?

now just call me dave has signed a lets be best buddies deal with the french , they might lend us a shiny new guillotine , and when all the lot of them are in the same place ,,,,,,come on step forward dont be shy ,who's first ?

Yes but she was neither king or queen proper, she was the kings consort, and the title queen mother title was awarded.

I had to smile at William's line in the Sky interview about cooking a meal to try and impress Ms Middleton - Caroline Aherne's Mrs Merton quip to Debbie McGee sprung to mind....

"So Kate, what first attracted you to the future King?" :D

I didn't think she was actually Scottish anyway was she?

edit:

according to this it appears that she was born in England but spent much of her childhood in Scotland. Presumably that's right?

Bad news guy & girls, just discussed this with William and Kate, they decided to not have a professional photographyer and instead hand out disposable cameras to the guests

God, if only that were true :D

Being born in England doesn't make one English......

Hardly. That line died out with the Tudors in 1603. The Royal Family are descended from George 1, who was the great grandson of James VI & I and Anne of Denmark. James was a Scot.
