My brother joined army at 15 and with parental concent younger people can marry and certainly many under 18's have children.
Do you think young people should pay for university specially as most will never earn enough to pay it back just stupid rules so we all keep in line
Let's face it we won't agree I think within reason the law should keep out of our life's telling us what we can and can't do is fine within reason.
What next can't smoke in your own home
No photography in public places
No car unless it's electric
The smoking law is silly and not enforceable in a few years they may decide smoking is good for us like
The world is round not flat

Oh and of course invading other countries
All great decisions made by our Governments of all colours
As I mentioned in other posts I don't smoke never have, I don't even like it but I would certainly defend others right to do so smoking now what next charging for air we breath

Married only with parental permission until 18 (in England. ..annullable if they run off to Scotland to do it); and in the army yes, but not in a combat role until 18.
Bearing in mind all the evidence that we have about the effects of smoking and passive smoking on health, that surely counts as child abuse.
I lived in a house where both parents chain smoked, and I had constant chest infections including bronchitis.
I guess some people will reply to this post saying there is no such thing as passive smoking, and that parents should be able to treat their children as they see fit, including deliberately endangering their health.

I'm not sure that's right, the relevant legislation does not appear to provide for it being a ground for the marriage being void or voidable.

If they return to England after marrying in Scotland under 18 and without parental consent, their parents can apply to have the marriage annulled, because as they are under 18, legally they are incapable of giving proper consent.
If that has altered in the last 14 years I stand corrected, but prior to that I handled several annulment cases where this had happened.
If the newlyweds had remained in Scotland after their marriage, the parents wouldn't have been able to do anything about it.
Quick edit....not all of those applications for annulment made by the parents were successful.

Well, being under 18, they're free to smoke, just not to purchase cigarettes, rolling or pipe tobacco

Even crazier, there was a scenario posed to a lawyer on the radio, if a 17 year old, picks him mum up in a car, and he is smoking, they are both liable.
Him for smoking in a car with an under 18 (himself) and his Mum ( being the responsible adult, even if she can't drive) for allowing someone to smoke in a car that has an under 18 in it!
The world has gone f*****g mad!
Damned good idea ! I suggest we start that right now, all the self righteous ex smokers can chip in too

Your lawyer is wrong, it clearly states on the govt site that the law does not apply to a 17 yo driving there own car, go check it if you don't believe me
or the police.
edit to say before anyone else does : Yes l do know it's illegal for a 17yo to buy or have them bought, but since when have the police followed that up, proving who bought them is nigh on impossible

Having just read that site in its entirety, I believe you're misunderstanding the law.
Quoting directly from the site:
The law applies to every driver in England and Wales, including those aged 17 and those with a provisional driving licence.
It then states that 17 year olds are exempt only if they are on their own in their car.
All fairly clear.

I don't see how people can be against stopping people from smoking in enclosed areas when there are children about. you should be banned from smoking if you have kids. The amount of people I see smoking while pushing a pram/pushchair just makes me sick and the way they hang about school gates smoking while they drop off their kids mean mine have to go through all that smoke. I'd be quite happy if they banned it completely. The smoking ban in pubs etc isn't fully enforced as they still smoke in the doorway and you can still smoke in a beer garden for the time being.

That's not exactly within the Police's remit unless a policeman witnesses such. It's more of a sting operation to catch out shop keepers who sell the cigarettes to under 18's

Not mine, I'm not that rich, but someone employed by the BBC to give the facts in a phone in.
I'm sure the BBC would have checked their facts / his facts before letting him broadcast.
Kids should be banned, they should "appear" at 18 years old, with a steady job, earning money and paying their own way
