Slimbert's slimming thread....!!!

Well done on your weight loss so far and don't stress about the week you didn't lose any.

I have been losing weight for about 18months now and ive gone from 19st 11 to 12st 7. I have some tips for you.
1. eat slowly, your brain takes time to realise your not hungry any more.
2. eat food you enjoy so you don't get fed up but watch the portion control
3. eat regular meals and snacks it will stop you getting hungry - you should aim to eat 5 times a day - just make sure the snacks are healthy :)

hope that helps and you manage to keep things up. if you want more info on things that can help PM me :)

Nearly forgot about this.....

Today I weighed in at 21st 8lbs, which means this week I lost another 8lbs....

Thanks for all the advice and support peeps......genuinely appreciate it!!

Nice shot!!! well done.

Another pretty good week this week.....considering I squeezed in an indian takeaway (my fault) and a visit to the all you can eat Chinese buffet on Saturday (my wifes fault) I still managed to lose a very decent 5lbs.....which means I'm just a single pound away from losing 2 whole stones in weight....I'm determind to smash that small milestone this week!!!

Bit late updating this but last week I lost another 3lbs which I'm quite pleased with to be honest but I can safely say that the big losses are over and the weight loss is finally starting to slow down....

On a side note, I've moved to the next notch on my belt which is a nice feeling!! :D

Damien, I've just found this thread, very inspiring :)
I'm now 7 days free from smoking and as a coincidence, I'm trying to loose weight a well.
Okay so the burger and chips may not have been a good idea at the London meet but it's all I ate all day.
We could've had a chat about this on Saturday if I had seen the thread previously.

I'm interested to know how you are stopping youself from becoming bored with meals and what you are eating for breakfast and lunch.
I do love salad but I think if I ate it every days I'd end up being a veggie and I do like my meat!
I know what meats to cut down on when dieting so it's good that I love chicken and most fish.

What about an excersise routine as you have to consider this as well.
For me it's walking as much as I can and I do try to go for long walks with my dog every day (weather permitting).
I can't face the idea of a gym, my reason is that I believe once you start you can never stop and I'd be bored within next to no time.

Lost another two pounds last week and have passed the 21st barrier....having an ok this week so far so I'm hoping for at least another 2lb loss, although 3lbs would see me reach 2 1/2st total loss....which would be nice!! :D

Well done that man.
Are you feeling healthier?

Definitely....I think that's mainly down to the smoking but the weight loss is definitely helping!! Still a heck of a long way to go but I'm still as commited as I was at the start and the weight is still coming off....just wish I could fast forward 6 months!!! :D

Well done you - I lost 3 stone a couple of years ago and managed to keep it off by eating mainly GI food, its really filling and keeps your sugar level at a constant so that you don't crave sweet things... and as a chocoholic I never thought I'd do that ...... not that I don't have the odd Mars bar now and then.... but when I do eat chocolate it tastes really sweet which means I don't eat it so much. Anyway everyone finds a way that suits them, you seem to be doing really well as you are - congrats on your success so far - keep it up!

Good solid week this week, another 4lb loss which means I've sailed past the 2 and a 1/2 stone mark....dead chuffed with myself!!!

I'm just 1st 8lbs away from my first target of being 19st by my summer holiday in June....I'm hoping to get there a little before then as the light exercise starts once I'm passed the 20st mark which should help speed things up a bit!! :)

can you feel the difference?

can you feel the difference?

Definitely!! I'm two holes tighter on my belt (just!) and I can wear clothes that haven't fit me for quite a long time!! I've got more "get up and go" than I had 8 weeks ago and I'm really looking forward to starting the light exercise....which is really strange!!!

All in all, I'm feeling tons better!!

Thanks for commenting, I genuinely appreciate it!!

I've just started dieting again due to Health issues, I have lost 1st 13lbs in the first two weeks. Just the 15st left to go. :'(

well done mate...........

well done mate...........

That side bet is still on....and I'm looking good to win it!! All your visits to "The Raj" aren't doing your double or quits any good either....I'm going to be quids in!!!!! :D

Well done Damien and Ed
Keep at it, you're both doing brilliantly.

Thank you Sarah!! This week has gone really well but I'll admit to having a rather large indian takeaway tonight.....but that's my weekly treat done with and I'm back on the normal stuff tomorrow!!! :)

My homemade effort more than made up for them all.... ;)

Moderation is the key, as you've seemed to realise. Make sure you're getting a good balance of proteins, carbs, vitamins etc. and as you've said, as long as you burn more calories than you consume the weight will come off. Food diaries are a great way to moderate what you eat and allow you to have the occasional curry to prevent a more permanent slip without any detriment to the overall weight loss. Increasing your water intake is recommended by many, especially if you've had a high salt diet in the past.
Don't start running for a while yet, 22stone is a lot of strain on the knees, but increase the amount of walking you do in your everyday life. Changes like taking the stairs instead of an escalator/lift all helps.

I'm going to have a guess at 22 - 7.

Oh, and good luck!

Well done on the weight loss Damien.

What i would say, is be careful, losing 8lbs isn't 'sustainable', nor should you want it to be.

Remember, you want to be going for 'fat loss', not just 'weight loss'. Weight loss = glycogen, water, lean muscle tissue, etc... Fat loss doesnt need explaining.

Good luck with your dieting and exercise, if you would like any advice, just ask.

Your enthusiasm is excellent, i am just trying to maybe offer some advice to help you out along the way.

Firt of all weldone for giving up smoking. I have been free of smoke for over 4 years now and would never go back in a million years. I smoked for 22 years too.

Regarding the above quotes, i have to agree with them 100%, but i'd also add that you might hit a bit of a wall soon and wonder why you are not losing anything. Big guys tend to lose alot of water first which can have a dramatic effect on the scales, this is obviously good for the one losing the weight, but once the first shed has gone everything grinds to a halt.

Eating the odd curry or all you can eat chinese is fine, these are called "cheat meals" basically every week you can have a cheat meal and it doesn't matter what it is. This is very good for weight loss as it tricks your body and stops the natural routine that its used to. The metabilism changes to accomodate this new food accordinly so when you go back to the diet it has to change again thinking that your cheat meal was your regular diet.

My advice to you would be to change your routine every 4 weeks or so, don't stick to the same thing. If you eat certain foods all the time, try and find an alternative and use that after the 4 week period.

But please remember one thing, stop calling it a "diet" this is a life change and unless you plan on being on a diet for the rest of your life, stop calling it one. Don't be mistaken into thinking that once the weight has gone you can go back to eating what you want, it doesn't work that way.

What is your target weight by the way.

Good luck.

30st 5lbs

Wowzers!! It must be having quite an effect on your health then....really good to hear you're doing something about it. "Aesthetics" can lick my balls to be honest as I think "looking good" is a very poor reason to want to lose weight, however health is right at the top of the pile in my book....if it's effecting the way and quality of how you live then something has to be done asap....it's a shame it took me so long to realise it!!! :bonk:

1st 13lb in two weeks is a phenomenal start, so a huge  to you!!!!....and please keep me (us) up to date....really interested to hear how you're getting on!! :)

Thanks for all the advice....really helpful!!

But please remember one thing, stop calling it a "diet" this is a life change

I absolutely agree.....when I mention or say the word diet, I actually mean a change in what I'm eating (long term) not the traditional "weight watchers" lose a few pounds for my summer holiday etc etc then pile it all back on in a week because I'm going all-inclusive!!

I'm genuinely changing my whole lifestyle....hence the quitting smoking to start with and the soon-to-start regular activites like dog walking and cycling etc that will continue in to the future....not just until I get to my target weight at which point I just stop everything sit and watch the TV for aother 10 years!!

I haven't set myself a target weight as such....I'm setting myself sensible short term targets at the moment but i haven't really thought about where this will end! I think going by the BMI chart, to get in to the OK band, I should be around 13st for my height....but I'd be extremely happy to reach 15st-ish to be honest.....I haven't weighed that little since I was 15-16 years old!!

Strange thing is the medical reason has nothing to do with my weight. I have been diagnosed with having a liver tumour. This in itself obviously is a problem but the letter I received from the consultant via my doctor sort of brought it home to me.

It went something like this:

Mr Bray has a tumour of the liver, due to the absence of other symptoms we suspect it is a Giant Hemangioma which whilst being benign will still have an adverse effect on the performance of his liver and will likely eventually lead to its failure. Unfortunately due to Mr Bray's size surgery is not an option. Should the Tumour actually turn out to be malignant then we can still not offer Mr Bray any treatment as the quantities involved would likely be fatal in there own right.

Sort of brings home the importance of being a reasonable size.

Small goals are a good way of doing it, just wondered what you had in the back of your mind. 13st is achievable, although extremely hard, 15st is realistic from 30st,.

Keep us posted bud, your doing well and your doing it right.

It absolutely does in your case....definitely not a nice thing to hear from medical professionals!! :shake:

Well, I wish you the best of luck getting down to your target weight and the best of luck with your liver problem....sounds like you're doing all you can!!

Not sure I want to though to be honest

Dieting or death, not really sure which one is more preferable at the moment.

I've never been 30st....I started at 23st. I think you're getting me and ed mixed up!! ;)

I'd be very happy at 15 stone and I wouldn't be too pee'd off if I didn't get any further than that to be honest but it won't stop me trying!! Having said that, I'm 6ft and a bit tall and almost as wide....I think I'd look a bit weird if I was 13st!!!

Trouble is....there's only one way to find out!!! :shake:

No idea what your history is with dieting, but I'm finding it's getting easier as I go along....I'm getting used to it and it's becoming the norm to eat smaller portions and less fatty foods rather than it is abnormal to not be eating piles and piles of junk four times a day!!!

If you stick with it, you WILL get there!!

3.5 years ago I lost 12 stone to take me from 25st 13lbs to 13st 13lbs. Then during/after a severe episode of depression and work related stress (15 months) I comfort ate myself up to 28 stone. The last couple of stone have gone on more slowly in the time since then just from overeating and a very sedantary lifestyle.

Another 3lb loss this week so it's still heading in the right direction....another 3lb next week will see me hit the 3st loss milestone.....fingers crossed!! :D

Well done.

I only lost 4lb this week which was a little disappointing. Total now 2 st 3lbs.

I am thinking of changing what I eat from a liquid only diet to a more normal eating regime (small regular meals and more exercise).

Don't beat yourself up over it, it might not be the huge amounts you've been used to but it's still a decent loss which is the main thing.....little and often (low fat content too!) is the way to go I reckon, plus if you throw in some form of gentle exercise, then you can't fail!!

I'm about two weeks away from starting on the treadmill.....I'm actually looking forward to it!! :D

Another good week this week, I lost another 3lbs which takes me to a total loss so far of 3st!!

Which is a good job to be honest, as this next week could possibly see me have my first week where I put some back on!! I've got a weekend in Leeds/Scarborough and I'll be eating lots and lots of naughty things!!! :naughty: If I manage to stay the same or lose, it'll be a miracle!!!!

Although to be fair to myself....I reckon I deserve it!!! :D

 on the 3 stones, I just hit my 2 stone loss.....and Scarborough.....loads of walking :D
