For me, last year was a great year photography wise...

For the first time ever, I saw a picture in my head and the result was 99% like I'd envisioned it to be. Something that has only happened a very small hand full of times since...but it made me realise that until that point, I'd been taking nothing more than decent snap shots.

Also, I got my first paid gig. Not a biggy....just £100 for a 21st birthday party, but it was still a start and as the client was happy with the results, I was happy I'd taken the job! That job got me thinking about building a better portfolio of all different types of work...showing light trails only works if the client wants pictures of light trails!!

Finally, last year I made some fantastic new friends and "tog buddies", here's hoping that this year will bring some new faces to the future Norwich meets, and here's hoping even more that they have expensive Canon lenses that I can borrow whenever I like!! (just incase tappilappi has got his phone switched off! :naughty: )

So here goes.....

I agreed with titch124 on twitter that we should become blood 52 brothers, then C_Geezer joined in, by that point I couldn't really back out, so here I am!

Knowing I'd never complete a 365, I figured a 52 would be a great way to help me step up a gear this year with my photography. Hopefully by week 52, I'll be better behind the viewfinder than I am now!....

....If not I'm blaming titch!!:bat:

Just one more thing about my 52 (I'm sure you're all getting bored by now!):

Please, whatever your ability behind the camera/however long you've been a member of TP/whatever camera you own/your age/your level of confidence......anything at all.....please don't be scared to comment!!!!

I'm not precious about my photography and don't mind anyone at all telling me what I'm doing right or wrong!! It's the only way I will improve....if you want to say something, then feel free to do so!!

Good luck fellow 52er's, 365er's and anyone in between, I'm sure it'll be a great year for photography!!

Nice one matey. I especially appreciate the T&C comment and I have promised myself to say exactly what i'm thinking. No more "nice shot" from me this year

Looking forward to seeing those pics Damien, and we must sort out another meet soon - I'm almost recovered now!

Meet in the pipe line, probably looking towards the end of Jan (ish) but weather dictates all at the moment. Just wait for the summer. Should be two or three a week by then!!:D

Oh and thanks peeps! Hopefully it'll be a good 'un!!

considering doing one of these as well........ whats the general "protocol"?

Everyone has their own thread, titled "My 52" etc and then posts a picture a week? Seen some of them have weekly challenges set by themselves or others....?

Tomorrow seems a good place to start..........

Good Luck Damien, Will be keeping an eye out...

Oh I'm watching....

Chicken by the way on the 365

Thread subscribed to... good luck with it, I hope you enjoy as much as I enjoyed mine.

Couple of ideas to try later on, hopefully post my first effort later tonight! Not holding my breath that it'll be any good, but he who dares wins Rodders...!!

Right, 1st photo....

Not too sure about this image, but I guess a 52 is about pushing yourself a little, so I've forced myself to use techniques I've never used before, to come up with this:

52week1a-1.jpg

Can't see many people liking it, but I learn't a few things while taking it, so it was worth the effort anyway!

Oh, and 10 points to the first person who guesses what it is!!

the elephants trunk thing that goes on a tumble dryer?

Hoover thingy bit (not bad for a bloke eh?)

Whatever it is, I really like it, I think for me it's the fact I don't know what it is that keeps my attention focused on the image.

10 points to Rob!!

Grrrrrr . . . I was going to say that

Great lighting in this one - I really like the effect of the pipe against the black background
I wonder if you could have arranged the pipe to lie in more of a curve, it would have added another element of curviness

Nice start though, and good to see that the 52's moving you out of your comfort zone.

I like it too.. although I would be tempted to lose a bit of the space on the lhs.... oh and I didn't have a clue what it was:)

Great start damien. Set the bar high with this shot.

I agree with Sarah
adding a curve to the whole thing would be a v good thing to try!

(guessed it was a vacuum cleaner - [sad]looks more like a Dyson though [/sad])

That's lovely, a great start, just the sort of thing I like.

I like it very different, was going to write "wtf is it" then decided to read back

Blimey! Thanks everyone!!

I thought this was going to be a marmite image but genuinely flattered and surprised with the response!

I did try going for the extra "curve" by tying the hose in a knot (which it is in the image) but it just wasn't working...and the crop is 99% as it came out of the camera, only corrected it to an exact 3:2.

Don't really want to spill the beans on how it was taken as it could spoil the "illusion".... Get me, thinking I'm photography god! (eh Lynton? ;))

i really like it , even though i didn't have a clue what it was, almost has a chrome effect to it :D

reminds me i need to get something to use as backgrounds

if we were keeping score i'd put you 1-0 up :D

great shot, very abstract, and nice take on the theme...

i hope you post how you took the shot, as im quite intrigued now

You're not the messiah!!! (or a photography god) You're a very naughty boy!!!
