Simon's 52 in 2022

Lovely set. I agree with your choice.

Might be interesting to try some ICM on the line of trees.

I had the sculpture idea too! There were a couple of stumps that had been carved in situ but they sprouted and so the stumps got removed.

All great pictures there, I perhaps might have leaned towards the hawk picture as it's quite different. Good stuff as always (y)

I'm sure it may well look 'lovelier' in the autumn, but that is an impressive tree lined path. The colours are still beautiful. I think you chose the right one.

I quite like the composition of Barrybados :)

Thanks Bee. I'll be sure to go back in the autumn and get another shot!

A great set Simon. I really like the river one. The foliage is so dense it looks like you're just discovering that part of the river.

Good set of images Simon, I really love the wild garlic shot.

You have a good selection of shots.. I think I am with you on the chosen shot for the perspective and leading line. It's a shame we can't control the light but that's all part of the challenge of landscapes too.

Week 17 - Hole

I'm in for a busy few days, so I've taken advantage of a quick wander over to Penarth this afternoon to get this week's submissions in early.

This is a section of the newly painted railings on Penarth Pier looking towards Lavernock Point (where Marconi made his first oversea radio message).

This is a closer shot of the railings, this time looking towards Cardiff Bay and docks.

This colour of this lifebelt popped (unedited) on a drab day

S hot of the end of Penarth pier though steps down to the beach. No one said that hole had to be small or round!

And finally, away from Penarth, a couple of holes in the fencing in my back garden.

Thanks for looking :)

A whole lot of holes and all submitted rather quickly! Well spotted. Interesting ironwork and that lifebuoy really does pop!

Interesting about Marconi. I thought he sent his first radio message from the Isle of Wight near The Needles. Perhaps that didn't count as overseas. I'll have to google now.... :)

Edit: Well that was all a bit confusing. I couldn't find the Isle of Wight mentioned anywhere and a few different dates given. Putting the Isle of Wight into the search yielded this https://www.visitisleofwight.co.uk/...t-at-the-needles-landmark-attraction-p1067191
... so I didn't imagine it. It sounds like he might have experimented here before managing to transmit further, or perhaps it was only transmitting to ships at sea?.

Thanks Bee.

There's a little more about Marconi's message here. Specifically, it was the first radio "message" across open sea, actually a morse code signal between the point and Flat Holm island about 3 miles out into the Bristol Channel.

Nice set - the 2nd pier shot for me ta :)

Thanks Dave - appreciate you taking the time to look and comment (y)

Nice set Simon. I think that #2 is the stronger image of the two Marconi shots. Having the cutout that has the bar running through it kind of pushes my eye to either side where the unobstructed holes are.

I also like #4 for the story. The sense that the viewer is walking through a dark passage into the light.

Thanks Bill. I see what you mean about the railing images.

Nice series Simon, though I too prefer the second for the theme as it draws you into the shot more.
I think the third is a terrific ”stand alone“ pic and l would have been well pleased had I shot it.

Week 18 - Sunset/Sunrise

Close to the wire this week. But I was away in Yorkshire at a wedding at the weekend, in no fit state to do either sunrise or sunset photos. On Tuesday though we came down to the south coast for a short break near Chesil beach, and I banked on getting a sunset here.
The first night (Tuesday) whilst not horrible, the weather didn’t really play ball. Today, (Wednesday) it was pretty meh and rai ing early doors, but it cleared up beautifully this evening. These shots were taken with my Sony RX100 vi from Fortuneswell at the POutland end of Chesil beach. They haven’t transferred that well to my iPad so I might post an update when I get home and can process properly on my iMac but they'll do for now to get the image in by tomorrow's turn around time.

Apologies also for brevity of comments on others photos for the above reasons. It’s been a very busy week!

Slight zoom to take out the beach as the sun sets over the outline of distant Devon with a few clouds adding some interest

The mighty 18 mile Chesil Beach included In this one. I wanted to lighten the beach a bit but it’s proving hard on my iPad with the tools available given the quality uploads from camera to iPad. Will try with the original when I get home on my desktop.

Two lovely shots this week Simon. I prefer the second and you don’t have to lighten the beach for me.

Both very nice, I prefer the first as the colours and clouds really work for me.

I really like the shapes on #2, and I think the beach is fine as is it, the light on the pebbles is subtle, but enough. The only thing I'd fix is the little lens flare blob in the sea.

I like how solid the clouds seem in #1 too, and the fade in the sky is lovely.

Cheers Nick! Good point about the lens flare. I had two shots almost identical. One had the flare the other didn’t.

Lovely pictures and if I had to pick it would be the first one because of the clouds giving that little bit extra!

I also prefer #2 for the lines and composition with the hint of a reflection on the stones.

I'm not too far away and I saw this lovely sunset as I drove home. Well done for capturing it. The clouds do add to your chosen shot nicely.
