Simon's 52 in 2022

That's one more hole-in-one than I've scored !
To be perfectly honest Alan, I thinned a 5 wood. If it hadn’t have hit the flag and gone in, it’d still be going :ROFLMAO:
But it was a 1 on the card and I’m taking it every day!

Congratulations on your hole in one. Did you have to buy everyone in the clubhouse a drink? The tees and background colour make for a nice composition.

On the main thread I wanted it to say LINKS as per golf course

Thanks Bee!
No I got away with it as I was a guest at the time not a member, but I did buy drinks for my Co-players.
the shot would have been a bit bland/bare without something, hence the added tees. in hindsight, it might have been nicer taken in grass (except my “lawn” is nothing like a golf course!)

Good submission Simon, the only "holes-in-one" I ever get are in my socks... :D

Not having ever had the inclination to 'spoil a good walk', is that the done thing when you get a hole in one?
I guess it's nice to keep the ball and know why :)

I agree that adding the tees works to give it a composition rather than it just being a record shot.

Thanks! That's the myth Tim - I've heard stories of someone racking up a £2k bar bill although that's probably a shaggy dog story - apparently the done thing at my club is to buy a bottle of whisky and leave it behind the bar. I'd have thought the better option would be get everyone to buy me a drink o_O !!!!

Nice back story. Well done on both shots ;)
Thank you Helen!

Good story and I like the composition of the picture the tees help make the shot too.

Nicely framed Simon and well done on the hole in one. I played for years without coming close!

I like the simplicity of the composition, and the space around it.

Congrats (late!!!) on the ace! Yet to manage one despite there being 4 par 3s on the 9 hole course I play most. Rarely manage to score to handicap :(.

I agree that the tees add to the shot.

Thanks Nod. Keep going….one day!
I'm not getting near my handicap recently either!

As an ex golfer that played off a 6/7 handy cap I love the golf ball shot. Use to work on Devils Dyke Golf Course so played in my spare time and every lunch time for an hour.
Thanks Dave. A 6/7 handicap is in my dreams . I’m off 25 currently!

Week 15 - Snapper's Choice

Just back from a flying visit to westernmost Pembrokeshire (St David's) to see my sister who's in her caravan down there for Easter, and of course because we love that area and are very regular visitors to this beautiful part of the UK. Whilst the rest of the UK seemed to be basking in some of the hottest days of the year so far, out west it was overcast, misty and occasionally drizzly! It did start to brighten up just as we left though......typical. The following are a selection of snaps from this 24 hour visit.

West and East
I was stood in the camping field for this iPhone shot. To the west, after the clouds finally cleared, a sunset was making a bit of an effort through the hedge, and when I turned around, the Pink Moon was rising and lighting up the campsite. I love this shot for the contrast between the two images taken at the same time, in the same place, but facing in different directions.

Egret - but those legs! o_O
We spotted this small egret poking around in the low tide at Solva harbour (what a beautiful place). It's a fairly massive crop from my Sony RX100vi taken at maximum zoom, but this shot is less about the quality but the legs and feet. I've seen egrets before, but never clocked that their feet are a different colour to their legs - unless of course, it was wearing stockings!

I have a spoon and I'm not afraid to use it
This is a shot taken on Whitesands beach of my niece's daughter wandering around with a spoon. It's a rite of passage to eat sand on a beach in our family.....

Abereiddy waves
Abereiddy beach holds a special place in our family. Not only have we been going there since about 1972, but both my parents ashes have been scattered there. The slate black sand is unusual and puts a lot of people off, but it's just black sand. The waves can be pretty spectacular here, and although not massive today, they were big enough and clearly caught the eye of this family.

Abereiddy reflections
What sun there was did manage to come out and helped show these reflections of the clips and clouds in the dark sand and there's a pop of colour from the boy in the orange coat. For those that know this area, just over this promontory is an old slate quarry, now filled by the sea knows as the Blue Lagoon or Morlyn Glas in Welsh. A well knows spot for coasteering groups jumping in to the pool off the cliffs. Red Bull have aslso held rounds of their worldwide cliff diving championships here, with divers off a platform about 80ft up!

A nice set of pix :)

And yes - Little Egrets have yellow feet!

Nice set of pics Simon, and yes Little Egrets do wear socks .....:(

These are all great shots Simon and great commentary. Your words bring everything into context. I particularly love the beach shots.

Loving the first image Simon, you could say it was taken in the Nevada desert.
Thanks Dave, Not quite so hot!

Thank you for those kind words Bill.

Great set of images. For some reason my eye is drawn to the family admiring the waves, but they all add to the story.

I wondered why 2 shots in the main thread, it makes sense now :)
iPhone probably gives you less control than a more traditional camera, but I kind of wish the exposure could have been the same across both in the shadow area. Losing the bottom of the top shot to shadow is a bit of a shame.

Lovely set and good to hear the story behind them. I really like the shot of the people watching the wave on the beach.

The fade in the sky is beautiful, and the silhouettes against it really set it off.

Thanks Pete - I like that one too!

Cheers Nick - what you can't see is me halfway up a bank through the hedge trying to get the best shot!

A really nice set of commentary shots. I'm booked for a week in Pembrokeshire in November so gawd knows what the weather will be then!

Thanks Helen - Pembrokeshire's fantastic no matter what the weather!

A nice set of images Simon, I do like the wave image ... I wonder if the family had to fun away from the breaking roller

Thanks Tim. These were genuine “snap” rather than a shot if intended for the theme

Thanks Duncan - no, the waves were further from the shore than they looked here....

Week 16 - Tree(s)

Good plans this week, but ultimately my chosen shot didn't quite work out the way I wanted to. It's an image I've taken several times, but it's best taken in autumn when the beech leaves are a rich golden brown or winter when you just have the starkness of the branches. C'est la vie.

So, here we go:

This is a local wood and popular path/dog walk. There's a longish curving path with a line of beech trees on one side, and a tangled field on the other. In the right light and at the right time of year, it's spectacular. Today's weak spring sunshine was OK, but it's not quite there for me. Best laid plans and all.....

Back from the line of beech tress, the woodland floor is awash with wild garlic

If no one's around when a tree falls, does it make a sound?

Palm trees in Barry? I guess that's why they call it 'Barrybados'!

What a varied choice.
Personally I would have gone for the hawk.
Your chosen one is fine though.

Nice set and variety of trees.

No2 for me I think.
