Simon's 52 in 2022

I agree with your thought Simon. #2 works best for me, mostly because my eye keeps getting drawn to the white square at the end of the alley (not sure what it is) but, to me, that square looks out of place in the colour version but right at home in the B&W.

Thanks Bill. It’s a wall.

I do like No 6 it works well in B&W loads of contrast and texture. I also like No 5 has human interest

An interesting set for sure. Nice to see Torchwood HQ across the bay #geekmode

UPDATE: A very late entrant....a skittle alley
I play in a local pub skittles team (it's a thing around these parts). This is the basement alley in the Clive Arms, a pub in Penarth - comfortably the shortest and brightest alley in the league. It's an old photo - I popped into a local pub yesterday to try and take a "proper" photo but was told "They (head office) don't allow that sort of thing....."
Bizarre, as if I was a punter I'd just have taken a photo.....

Thanks Duncan - I'm playing around a bit more in PP (having always thought in my younger days that beyond straightening it was cheating ) and I'm finding it really good fun. A poster here suggested bumping some contrast in a shot from last year's 52, so I've taken it to heart a bit.

Thanks Dave.
I'm just waiting for @Cobra to set a nice TV related theme... ;)

Something like "Satellite" ?
That's bound to get a few complaints :D

What a lovely set Simon. I like the b/w shot looking down the steps to the sea. It's got a nice sense of scale to it.

You've taken a nice set of shots there, Simon. I prefer #2 the best for the monochrome conversion. The last one doesn't work for me, the old vintage sepia look doesn't really go with the modern mattresses and steel bedframe.
The wall on the left looks like about to fall over and a bit dangerous to me

Thanks Stan. Lots of leaning walls around here!!!

Goodness, you have been busy. They're all interesting shots but I think the very last one carries a social statement enhanced by the processing.
Why is it always beds/mattresses??

Thanks Helen......yep - always a mattress

Week 7 - Heavy

An intersting theme this week, and some people have posted some great shots - I ventured out a few miles into the Vale of Glamorgan for these shots of two neolithic burial chambers that are only about half a mile apart, both with really HEAVY capstones. The Tinkinswood chamber is much bigger and has an enormous capstone - the largest in Wales - God only knows how they put it there, but as the whole chamber is more sunken, it's perhaps not quite as impressive to view as it's nearby cousin, the St Lythan's chamber.

Really interesting. Last one best image for me.

I really enjoyed reading the (photos of the) information boards too.

Thanks Donal I thought the info boards would help add context rather than me typing it all out again!

Very interesting and it fits the theme well. I like your chosen image certainly looks heavy!

These are very cool Simon, great shots. Love the story and the thought of how the people of the day overcame the engineering challenge of moving and placing the stones.

These monumenuts always fascinate me Simon and I enjoyed reading the information. Second one for me as l like the angle.

Thanks Bill. I’m always thinking how I’d like to be a time traveller and be able to go back and see places as they were (taking my camera with me of course)!

Thanks Pete.

Thanks Simon I was going to pop out there today, guess it will have to be plan "B"

I think the stone cap at Tinkinswood is about 40 ton:)

Aaargh! Sorry.....

You might get a better shot than me though - sun's shining today ;)

Yes it's huge....

Good shots and good story.
Use of a model gives good context.

Thanks Peter. My wife will be flattered that you called her a "model" :)
I said "stand there a moment" !

Historic heavy, good find, I prefer the last but one as it has more depth with the trees in the middleground.

Thanks Pete. yes, I think the last one's best. Difficult to get a really decent angle on the others with a combination of bl**dy great pylons just behind, hedges, or shooting directly into what light there was. As it was with the last one I had to get down low because I wanted the chamber at least partly above the skyline - and it was to hide a telegraph pole

Good shots and an interesting post. I think you chosen shot translates the theme well.

Week 8 - Light

Was out at St Fagans National Museum of (Welsh) History today, and the sun was shining, so tried to get a few shots on this weeks theme of light.

Stryd Lydan Barn (c1550, re-erected 1951). Originally from the Wrexham area. I love the way the dappled sunlight was shining on this 16th century barn. I've added a vignette to pull the eye more to the centre and soften the block of white cloud top right.

This is the interior of the barn with shards of light coming through the slats, shot handheld whilst holding the camera through a gap in the slots of the slats - almost dropped the camera taking this shot, and had to clone out a bit where there was a large plastic tin on ?paint, that rather took away from the shot.

It was a toss up for me between these two as to which to put on the main thread, but I've gone with this one based on the theme rather than it being my preferred shot which was the first one.

Light through an arch in the grounds near St Fagans castle. My daughter compelled me to take this shot.

Underpass. This was a shot on the fly, almost as an afterthought as we passed through an underpass in the grounds. I waited until my brother in law passed under a light to get the splash of colour from his jacket.

I really like your chosen shot - it definitely says Light to me.

Nice shot's Simon, I was going there today as well but it got cancelled, great place.

At least I know my first choice of shot will not have been taken if I get it, ;)

Thanks John!
I'll look forward to your choice of shot

Love your chosen image. Very dramatic! The whole set are excellent.

The filtering light shot would have been my choice from the selection too. Like it!
