The TP52 - 2026 SimonB - 52 for 2026 - Week 10 & 11

An original take on the theme, and it works well.

Great idea Simon, and really well executed. I don't know that I'd have been able to think of something so creative.

Well, you have to do what you can.
It's comes out quite well, the 2 puffs do help to focus the eye on the showerhead.

The framing works well, I agree, and a fun take.
I'm impressed that you managed to avoid a NSFW reflection :runaway:

Nicely thunked and clunked Simon :)

Good idea, very effective

Yeah go on, that’ll do;)

I like the colours and framing in this one

Great take on the theme. Well composed. and hope the camera stayed dry!

I like that a lot Simon. The colours are lovely.

Different and nicely done

So many comments!

Thanks for the feedback, it is very encouraging to read. It was typical though that despite the lack of rain and opportunity to take a picture that it rained for most of the day after I posted my picture!

So there I was walking past the back of the house when I saw a portal to another place, looking through the local beach!

This is something that I have always wanted to have a go at and I thought that this theme would be perfect for it. Thankfully, it has been raining for most of the afternoon, so I wasn't too concerned about anything catching alight although I did check the area for a while afterwards. I couldn't have done it without my wife helping me out with the shot. It took a few attempts to get the settings right, some pictures didn't have enough sparks and some pictures were too dark.

I tried to do a bit of lightpainting on the grass to try to create the glow from the beach. I think it almost worked. The beach picture was a snappers choice from last year therefore you could say that this picture is a hybrid shoehorn!

I hope you like it, and I welcome any critique too. It was my first go at it so I would like to know if it could be improved.

Week 6 Looking Through

Great shot!

Obviously it would have worked a bit better with a wider area. I wonder also if the shot "through the portal" would be better with the horizon a bit higher - not because it should be in reality, but just because a lot of that shot is sky.

I agree a wider area would have been better, but I didn't fancy going to the beach or finding an open space this time around. Next time I try this, I will go to the beach and also buy some finer grade wire wool so that it burns a little longer.

Thanks for the feedback!

Very clever ;)

That's a cool idea, well executed. I wouldn't know where to start in terms of critique though, as I have zero reference as to how you'd do something like that.

I found a guide on this forum about wire wool spinning and watched a YouTube video about it. Great fun.

Interesting idea for the theme it works well

Thank you :)

Nicely done and good work for the theme :)

Thanks, as long as it ticks the box!

Great idea I like it

Works well Simon :)

Good to see the theme sparked some interest :exit:

That’s excellent Simon, from idea through to setup and result. Chapeau sir!

Ba dum tish! Our cat was not interested in the sparks!

Cheers, hopefully another theme will crop up and I’ll feel brave enough to try it in a wider area.

Good idea well executed (y)

Thanks!

Very Catherine Wheel esq.
I like the idea and you've executed very well imo. :)

Thanks very much, good to try something new

Great idea Simon, you really pulled it off. Probably the most creative take on a theme that I've seen this year.

Looking good. I've shared to try this out myself for a long time, I'm sure one day I'll get round to it.

Makes me want to take out my notepad and do a risk assessment, is it a catherine wheel or a chap spinning a sparking thingi ?

I think that works really well - the only minor issue as mentioned above is that there is a fraction too much sky in the portal shot - less sky would draw the eye more IMO.

That's very kind of you, a fleeting moment of creativity. It's all downhill from here!

You should, so much fun to do!

it’s a great looking shot.

As said above I wouldn’t know where to start suggesting anything you ‘could have done better’.

Nice work.

Thanks very much!

Lovely idea Simon and it comes together well.

Cheers!

Ha risk assessment was very much done beforehand, safety glasses, gloves, hat, and no bare skin! I did it with a cheap whisk stuffed with wire wool on a piece of string.

Yes, looking at it agai,n I would probably opt for either a different picture or just nudge the picture up further (y)

I had a spare moment today to wander to a lake nearby. I was hoping to take a picture of the rare but bright sunshine, only for the sun to disappear behind a cloud when I arrived (typical). Still, I saw these ducks and managed to grab a few pictures and then the battery died, and the spare was flat too! Very poor planning on my part, still I'm quite pleased with this picture. If I had my telephoto lens with me I might have tried for a tighter picture.

Week 7 Reflections in water
by Simon Brown

I don't think you needed a longer lens, or a fresh battery, or the sun - I like your shot.

Works fine. A lower viewpoint would have worked.

Fits the theme, think most have had days like that. Walked miles once carrying a tripod and found I’d left the tripod plate at home

Double reflections work well.

Thank you, you are very kind.

It certainly works for the theme :)

Cheers!

Ah I was quite focused on keeping a reflection of their heads on the water. Will definitinly keep it in mind for the next time (y)

A good reflection.

Thank you.

Its gutting isn't it?!

That'll do nicely Simon.

Thanks Simon.

That's an excellent shot Simon.

Thank you :)

Double reflections work well.

and double the trouble of moving ducks!

Nice. I like the patterning created by the trees.

Thanks, I did too. I had a few pictures with just tree reflections but I felt it needed a bit of context with it.

Love that one

Thanks!

That does the job nicely Simon.

Cheers!

Just returned from a trip to Edinburgh, had a great time there, although my legs are tired from all the walking we did. Popped into a whisky shop and my jaw dropped at some of the prices for the vintage whiskies. Not sure if 34 years old could be considered vintage but it is a favourite whisky of mine (not this age, I should add!). It was tricky taking a picture with a mobile phone through glass but I'm pretty happy with it either way.

This was by no means the most expensive bottle they had there, I did see one for sale at £18,000, imagine dropping that bottle on the floor...
