The TP52 - 2026 SimonB - 52 for 2026 - Week 10 & 11

An impromptu day off today and dragged out to the local shops gave me an opportunity to use my imagination for once. Plenty of lines and angles in a car park, I used my drone for this picture, which I have not used for a while.

I edited the picture through Lightroom for tweaking, perhaps I have overdone it, but I quite like the look!

A good take on the theme, and a new perspective.

Great start(y), just another 51 to go :) . Like the processing as it makes the lines more prominent.

Yes a nice start Simon! A black & white candidate maybe as it's almost there in colour!

Thank you :)

Very good, I like it! A strong start to the year.

I might have set myself up for a fail for the rest of the year!

Thanks! 51 more to go? Don't say that! :ROFLMAO:

Thanks very much, the original colour was almost a boring light grey.

It doesn't look overdone to me. It's quite a bold, graphic style picture that will tolerate a bit of pop. It works nicely.

Great start to the campaign. I like the angle, framing and post processing look to it.

Not something that would have occurred to me, but pretty cool, and the use of the drone to give an unusual angle was a good idea.
With it being urban, the gritty processing certainly works :)

Great start to the 52 and the edit looks great to me

Nice start Simon!

Thanks everyone, appreciate the feedback :)

Nice picture good take on the theme

Great angle from high up, I keep meaning to find somewhere high to shoot from.

Like this lots, planned to do something similar with a drone but limited experience flying it so didn’t risk it. Agree with others like the processing

Yeah, this is a great image - processed perfectly to my eye, not overdone at all.

Excellent start

Good processing to make that pop like it does, good start to the year.

spot on for the theme good use of the drone

I don't think it's over-processed (though I didn't see the road, obvs). It feels like an icy, frost-covered road.

Good shot.

Excellent start to 2026 Simon!

A really strong shot Simon and the processing suits it well.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments it’s very encouraging, no pressure for week two!

The underside of Southport Pier is a suitable subject for rust and decay, it is a local bone of contention with the locals. The pier is Britain's second longest and it was completed in 1860. I remember the pier was closed and underwent heavy restoration around early 2000, and despite these renovations, the pier has been closed since December 2022 as the decking was found to be rotting.

Since then, the local council appears to have been dithering ever since to get the pier sorted and unfortunately like most seaside towns it continues to fall into further decay.

However, I quite enjoyed having a close look at the pier and trying to find a suitable angle to capture the pier and the theme. Good excuse to remind myself of the settings and play around with depth of field etc.

Hopefully, in time the pier will be repaired and other areas of Southport will be rejunvated its quite depressing otherwise! :ROFLMAO:

Week 2 Rust and Decay

I like that Simon, very nice indeed;)

That's a lovely shot for the theme. I love piers and it's rather sad to see so many neglected.

Good shot for the theme, hopefully it can be repaired. Looks like it’s fenced off on the left hand side but not on the right?

Ah Southport pier! Many fond memories. Nice angle for the theme!

Nice! The symmetry, leading lines and side light work really well together.

Excellent photo, Nicely composed with some great reflections.

Thanks very much, lucky with the reflections I think.

Love a good pier ! Good angle and perspective.

Cheers Alan!

Thank you, you're right and I don't know the reason for it either, quite easy to walk around it!

Thanks!

Ooh, that's a good one Simon. Piers are great subjects!

Thanks Simon, I was certainly spoiled for choice on the rust front!

Nice! The symmetry, leading lines and side light work really well together.

Thanks, nearly fell over trying to get the angle!

Nice bit of rust and a excellent viewpoint of it

Cheers Allan!

That's a beauty, the little hole right at the end.

Good shot Simon, it works really well for the theme. The supports look like temporary structures that I see sometimes around here.

A bit of dedication was needed for this picture. I wanted to go out and get it done today, otherwise I wouldn't have had the chance to do it this week. However, today it has done nothing but rain all day!

This is cemeterys keepers house, abandoned of course. I couldn't help but think what an interesting yet very expensive restoration project this would be. The windows and doors would need replacing, along with damn near everything else!

I went for a washed-out edit for this picture to try rather than go for black and white, just to try something different.
