weekly SimonB 52 for 2022 - Week 52 - Showcase

Nice images, plenty of detail and great colours. I prefer the 2nd image.

Yum! Fabulous shot. I want some now too. Fascinating to see it so close up. Good job capturing the glossy juiciness of it.

I have kind of left this week's theme to the last minute as I have been scratching my head for inspiration. Still, I have been sprucing up the fish tank this week with a mix of fake and real plants. The fish would NOT play ball modeling wise and it took a while to coax the fish into position with food (I bet they knew!).

I have mixed feelings about this picture, as it was tricky to get a sharp picture where the fish were not blurred. I ended up ramping up the ISO which I feel has made the picture a bit grainy. It's a bit of a compromise to get the result I was after.

Tank Internals

I think you're right Simon, there is a bit of softness to the image but you've managed to capture a good formation of neons.

I think it looks good considering the lighting etc. Your tank certainly looks pristine!

I've been ripping apart the lounge this weekend, it's not really been touched since we moved here 5 years ago and before that, it probably hasn't changed since the 70s! Nothing like having a blank canvas to work on, however picking a colour is not easy. Turns out none of these colours are suitable, oh well time to buy more tester pots!

At least they're squares.

Painting Squares

You're a "dab hand" at square painting Simon.:)
We went for Laura Ashley Dove Grey - better than Magnolia IMO.

Good eye Simon, we also used a soft grey for a couple of the rooms in our house.

Hard luck Simon, it appears to be a never ending job.

Fits well with the theme and your Mrs has the chance to change all the cushion covers what ever colour is picked.

Internal - you've done well to capture the fish Simon. Looks fine to me considering the challenges shooting them.

Squares - That works. reminds me though I've got some decorating to do....thanks

Not the cushion covers! I’m sure once we’ve finished the last room we will be redecorating the first one.

Thanks, sorry for reminding you! Ha

Works well for the theme Simon. Best of luck with the colour choice!

Thanks!!

With life getting in the way it would seem that I have fallen behind for the first time this year!

Simple picture for small, it is a AA battery next to one of my hearing aid batteries. Hard to believe that they can make batteries smaller than the one pictured.

Small and smaller

Nice one Simon. A small battery with an even smaller battery. Nice sharp shot too.

LOL, made me laugh. Big brother/little brother. Great take on the theme Simon.

Small and smaller... good idea for the theme.

If anyone does not like spiders then I am so so sorry for this picture!

I have been clearing out the back part of my garden to make way for a log store and I spotted this fella that I have named Barry. The wife is not keen on Barry at all! However, I have done my best to ensure not to break the web during the clearout and as I am still behind on my pictures, I thought that this would be a good one for the snapper's choice.

I started off using the macro lens which was fairly tricky getting a clean shot as the wind was blowing Barry about quite a bit. He would also run off to inspect part of the web every now and then, this meant having to adjust the tripod. I ended up using my standard 18-125 lens, which made things a little easier.

I have an idea for a scape picture for this week but time and light may be against me. I believe a shoehorn may be in order!

Anyway, I hope you "like" the spider pictures!

Barry the spider

I quite like this picture with the different colours in the background.

Close and personal

This was probably the best picture from the macro pictures, I didn't use it as it is a bit too close and the whole spider isn't in the shot.

again so so sorry for those who hate spiders!

I like your shot Simon, especially as you've managed to capture the spider right in the middle of the purple vertical area that divides the reddish area on the left the the green area on the right.

Thanks, that's what I was hoping to achieve with the different colours behind him.

I decided to get up early this morning and make use of the drone before the rain came in. I also wanted to get the shot before it got too busy. I took quite a few pictures and managed to whittle it down to just one. The levels were tweaked somewhat as the camera was suffering from the low light available. So no beautiful sunrise from this end of the world, just grey wet clouds!

At least that's me all caught up again, can't have this challenge run away from me.

Hope you like the picture!

I like that.

Without the explanation I'd have thought maybe a clock tower or something like that to get the view.

My only (hopefully) constructive criticism is that the road in only just off-centre. I think I'd be tempted to recrop so it's bang on centre - or put it deliberately off-centre by cropping some off the RHS.

Constructive criticism taken on board, I had spent time changing other things within the picture that I didn't consider cropping it. So a very quick edit and I have cropped the picture so the road is now in the middle.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Great shot, plenty of detail and you can see it’s a bleak day.

Good shot of Barry, although I'm not a fan of his type, I don't mind looking at a photo!

The drone shot is fabulous, even with the not ideal light.

Urban rooftops are endlessly fascinating, so many details.

I did think that it was a very tall ladder to be stood on ........
