weekly SimonB 52 for 2022 - Week 52 - Showcase

Great shot, plenty of detail and you can see it’s a bleak day.

Thank you, lightroom certainly helped.

Good shot of Barry, although I'm not a fan of his type, I don't mind looking at a photo!

The drone shot is fabulous, even with the not ideal light.

Thanks, my wife won’t even look at the photo! :ROFLMAO:

Urban rooftops are endlessly fascinating, so many details.

I did think that it was a very tall ladder to be stood on ........

It’s very interesting to see my home town from a different perspective. You’d never get me on a ladder that high!

Nice shot withthe huge tripod :)

Cheers, I got a couple of odd looks setting up my tripod.

I thought you must be in a very tall building too. I like how you got the white van bang in the middle too - did you pay him or is that yours? :ROFLMAO: Lots of detail and just enough sky.

I immediately thought you were on a tower. A moody town scene with a great leading line.

Shear fluke with the van! Thanks

Thank you!

Well that's different and very good Simon.

Thanks!

A little bit of a catch up here.

Looking up at the trees that will probably need trimming soon, I thought the sky looked quite cool here. Still, it's another job to add to the list!

Looking Up
by Simon Brown

I checked today to see what the theme was for this week and I had only just put the car on charge. That was good timing!

Whoops! Sorry Simon, had too many tabs open on my iPad and inadvertently posted this weeks photo on your timeline - but quickly deleted and posted in the right place! ‍ Mea Culpa

Some great cotton wool clouds you've captured and nice perspective on the car charger.

Nice shots Simon, and both fit the theme well.

Ha, thanks for your comments and I never noticed your picture popping in to say hello!

Some great cotton wool clouds you've captured and nice perspective on the car charger.

Thank you, lightroom helped to bring the clouds out more as despite trying many different settings the trees would be too dark or the sky would blow out.

Looking Up - The transition in the trees appears to follow the difference in the clouds which are nice and fluffy at the left.

Electrical
Since electrical cars became an option, I've always wondered if the charging plug is locked into place when in use and needs an action carried out elsewhere in the car to permit its release. Or is there nothing stopping anyone from unplugging it?

Thanks for the feedback (y)

You are correct the charging plug is locked in place when the car doors are locked. It’s the same for untethered (bring your own charging cable) charging points. When you lock your car the cable is locked at both ends.

The annoying thing is my work place has increased the cost of charging from 15p per kWh to 45p. It’s now cheaper for me to charge at home.

It does make the move to an electric vehicle less attractive but I’m presuming the price they pay for the electricity has shot up.

Both on theme. I like the viewpoint on the car shot and the reflections add to it. I don’t know if our hosepipe ban is still active but my car certainly wouldn’t reflect like that at the moment :)

Very topical leccy shot Simon.
Good angle.

Thank you, I’m sure the neighbours were wondering what I was up to!

Thank you, the car really needs a clean. Luckily there’s no hosepipe ban for us in the north.

Good idea and slowmo of the falling pound, get it.
Clever take on the theme and well executed.

Pete

Nicely done, how many shots to get it right and did you use a tripod.

Yep - that does it nicely!

That's nicely done Simon - loving the slomo of the falling coins

Ha the falling pound, very good!

Good shot which depicts the song well.

Thank you!

It took a few shots to get the affect I was after. It was varying the shutter speed and the speed of the coins falling. A tripod was used to minimise the amount of blurry ness of the coins on the floor.

Yep - that does it nicely!

Thank you!

I like that - though I have to say I might have been tempted to crop it portrait or square as there's quite a lot of empty space there.

Or maybe a heavy vignette.

Thanks for the comments, cropping always seems to be a bit of an afterthought for me. I can see what you mean a tighter shot would be a choice (y)

Thank you!

Great song and I love your depiction. Very clever.

Thank you!

Well, this week's theme seemed a good excuse to put the drone into use. I was trying to think of something that you wouldn't normally see from above and I thought a roundabout would be a good idea, with lots of shapes and points of interest.

I was lucky with the sun as well as it appeared and created some wonderful shadows, I quite liked the M from McDonalds. Looking down from above just shows how dense the roundabout is. You could probably get away with pitching a tent there and no one would know!

Looking Down by Simon Brown

That';s a cracker Simon. :)

Kew Roundabout Southport? :)

I love the composition that the perspective creates. It makes something quite ordinary into something interesting.

Fabulous shot Simon!

Thanks Simon!

Great shot.

Thanks!

Thanks, I did record a brief video of the cars going around. It was quite mesmerising to watch. The only shame was that the wind started to wind pick up so I brought the drone back quickly.

Catchup week for me!

Depict a Song: really creative shot Simon, my first thought (before I looked closely at the coins) was Pennies from Heaven...

Looking Down: love he drone shot, really well composed.

Depict a song... relevant in more ways than one. Nicely done on the exposure to get the movement just right.
Looking down. Makes me feel a little dizzy but a fascinating shot.

Fascinating to see it from so high, and makes me realise I don't like heights ha ha! Couldn't be better for the theme.

I am not a fan of heights, much prefer to send the drone up!

Where does the time go? I have been very busy with some DIY at home trying to ensure the lounge will be finished in time for the carpet to be fitted. So I finally managed to find a moment to catch up and take a shot for this week's and last week's theme. So it's a bit of a catch-up from me...again!

A rustic shot of my logs in the log store, hopefully I'll have enough to see me through winter.

Fuel
by Simon Brown

I had a great idea for precision and after the log picture I went to the garage a took a picture of my vernier caliper. I then made the mistake of seeing everyone's else picture and I must be the fifth person posting a like-minded picture! :ROFLMAO:

It was a bit of a quick lazy shot with the random bit of wood I found.

Two good shots there. Have to say your log store could also illustrate precision too, compared with my random stacking method anyway :)

Nice images Simon, I think that the cord of wood is a great take on the rustic theme and your precision shot is right on target.
