Sigma massive price drops announced

so they've finally figured out the massive increases they imposed last year have hurt their businesses and are rolling "some" of the items back to a more sensible level.

This just reminds me of the likes of the supermarkets who announce more savings, but only on items they substantially increased and then reduced but still cost more than before the increase. bargains!

I know there's always a big difference between RRP and street prices, but every one of those RRP's is still way higher then what the lenses can be bought for today. It looks a bit of a gimmick

If they are dropping the RRP's it stands to reason that the "wholesale" price to retailers is dropping too, therefore the retailers will pass some of this on to us (hopefully).

whe selling the siggy 180mm at just under 90 less then srp

:suspect:

Even the "new" price is about £700 too much....

But that's not the street price. before the drop the srp was £3000 ish but a new one could be had around £2400, so I'd expect to see the 120-300/2.8 in the shops around the £1800 mark, forcing used sales to be around £1200/1400!

The money you can save is eaten up when you need them all recalibrated ;)

Well I just paid £1200 for one - and I've never seen one at anything like the 'recommended retail' - it's nonsense - why do they even bother to quote RRP?

Nice one Sigma. If only the others would follow suit.

I get the feeling the recession is being used as a massive excuse to push the prices of lenses up. Sure, currecny prices have an effect etc. etc. but not to the extent of a few hundred quid on a sub £1000 lens.

Will the prices come back down to their original levels once the markes recover? I won't be holding my breath.

It just shows what sort of profit margin they were making!
