I confess to being a bit puzzled by the OS (image stabilising system) on my Sigma 150-600 Sport, on my Nikon 200-500 there is a noticeable visual and light audible response to the VR kicking in and dropping out.
The Sigma lens recently went to Sigma for re-calibration but while they had it they fitted a new OS system, obviously they found the original to be faulty.
When it came back I didn't notice any difference in the operation of the OS to when it went away if I'm honest but a few days later I noticed a very responsive 'clunk', when the OS dropped out after the AF button was released. This change was a bit puzzling but I thought no more of it until a few days later when the 'clunk' disappeared!
I now find myself thinking, was it working okay when I got it back from Sigma, or was it working only when I heard the 'clunk' and so is it now not working again ... or was the 'clunk' an indication of a fault?

So I guess I am asking a couple of questions of those who have had experience of using the Sigma 150-600 Sport or Contemporary.

1. What experience, visual or audible do/did you get when the OS is activated with AF?

2. When using customised settings C1 or C2, what position did you use the 'OS Switch' in (Off, 1 or 2)?

3. Does using C1 or C2 over-ride the 'OS Switch', or vice versa, or do they work together in some way?

I have the Sigma manual but it does not seem to address any of the questions I have.

I can't comment on C switch as I don't have the dock, but I can confirm my OS is silent and no visual clues in modes OS1 and OS2.

Thanks that's very helpful. :)

Os on mine is silent also im pretty sure you can customise so the image freezes but im away from mine but will update when home

Only had the C version but without changing the setting with the dock i found it difficult to see any change, making the dock adjustment made it obvious, cant remember about a clunck

Update from previous post
When OS in standard mode (no customization) there is a barely noticeable shift of frame down and to the left when OS disengages.
When C1 set to moderate there is a more noticeable shift in frame down and to left when OS disengages
When C2 set to dynamic there is a very noticeable shift down and to the left when OS disengages
I haven't noticed any shift of frame when OS engages in any setting.
There is however a noise not a clunk when OS engages but its so quiet I only heard it because I was indoors and listening for it.
This was on a C version
I hope this helps

Many thanks Gary, I'll do some more thorough checks. (y)

The OFF/C1/C2 modes modify the OS if set to do so with the dock. I.e. I have my 60-600S set to C1- Fast AF/Dynamic OS; C2- Smooth AF/Moderate OS; and OFF returns everything to standard/defaults. When OS is set to OFF the Custom switch only affects the AF mode. With OS set to mode 1 (general) I have the three OS mode options available via the custom settings switch, and the same three options when OS is set to mode 2 (linear).

That's brilliant, thanks Steven. :)
