Show us yer film shots then!

Is that the new phoenix film Kevin?

I am getting bombarded with e-mails about that.

The colours on the indoor shot are lovely.
Harman Red is derived from the first version of Harman Phoenix - not the new Phoenix II. It is rolled back to front so the red layer is exposed first, resulting in a red tint.

The rest of the roll can be seen on my blog

Holy Trinity Church in Buckfastleigh with a charity shop find Minolta Riva 75W and Kentmere 100. In hindsight I wish I'd tried another frame with the camera's fill flash on the foreground cross, but I hate using flash.

Nice shot David, I agree that its better without the flash.
Pity about the cherubim on the cross. Would have been outstandingly dramatic without that breaking up the outline, the spire is wonderful, was that copper?

Thanks. The spire is a lighter stone than the rest as it avoided damage when the church was burnt down (allegedly by satanists) back in the early nineties. The marks visible on the front wall in the photo are fire damage.

Maybe recomposing to somehow include it, but not necessarily with detail? It brings something of an ominous note to the proceedings.

Grapes and Dates

View attachment 458379

I assume that you have presented this image as you wish us to view it. I hope that you don't mind my saying, it's a bit odd. It has a painterly feel, which itself is odd for a monochrome image. I'd be interested in learning what has caused the image to turn out like this.

Hello Dave, I hope that's a good WOW. LOL

I read a book "The Darkroom Handbook" and was amazed at the antics of the printers to get funky looking images. They would have loved photoshop those chaps.

I caused the image to turn out like that by playing about with post processing in Capture One, The actual image concept was an attempt by me to maintain detail in both highlights and shadows. The contrast between the smooth grapes and the rough surface of the dust sheet I cut up to make the rag and after a few shots with the scrunched up bin bag (trying to work with reflections) the surface of the dates complimented it so nicely.

I wanted the image to resemble the old still life renaissance paintings of fruit where the backgrounds are very dark but the central portion of the paintings were full of light and bright, the addition of the wine glass I included as many of the old still life paintings often had glass or pottery or something else chucked in there, plus the addition of a few dates to a white desert wine adds a wonderful complexity!

I realize that it is a bit ham fisted, but I am pleased that my experiments increased my understanding of surface textures and reflections without the distraction of colour.

Thank you so much for your comments I am pleased that it has a painterly look, if I could have got the RHS to like the LHS I would have been very happy indeed and probably printed it for sale. ;)

Crikey, can you stop showing the rest of up please :) . Is every image from that holiday and camera stunning?!

Thanks :)

You can see the whole lot here: https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjCiSwM (there are a few more still to upload, and there are a few digital shots in there too). I shot two rolls of film with the Oly Trip 35 during the holiday and got a lot of pictures I like. :)

I've not totted up how many of those two rolls you have shared on here but that's a very impressive "hit" rate. Well done.
PS Credit to the photographer as well.
