Show us yer film shots then!

Lovely set. I've lost count of how many times I've been to Copenhagen and I absolutely love the place, great to see some images from there that really capture the atmosphere of the place! :)

Thanks, should have said that number 2&3 are from helsingor. I really enjoyed the place and would consider returning

Albir promenade just before dawn.

Thank's Mark, kind of you to say so.

I was not sure it would work as it was with my Bessa R3A and Velvia 50, I was waiting for the sunrise and I just rested the camera on a bench and got down on my hands and knee's to compose through the viewfinder, just glad the police did not drive by. :)

I haven't put any up for a while; despite being disappointed with my exposure on the Agfa Precisa film received back last week, there were a few shots I was pleased with, so I thought I'd share them. All these taken in Scotland with a Pentax ME and mostly the 50mm f/1.7...

1) The River Almond near Cramond, just liked the reflections

2) Bikes near the Almond weir

3) Colourful seabird plus brood at Cramond (I think I swapped the 135mm on for this)

4) Cramond Causeway at mid tide

5) Fidra Island, near North Berwick

6) Wedding photos in front of Bass Rock (one of my 52s, for Rock!)

I think the battery was ailing right through this film and the previous; now replaced...

Chris, liking these a lot. #5+6 are very good indeed.

Quite liking Precisa myself.

Just a couple from my new(ish) Ricoh 500me, really must try the multi exposure thing! Anyway most were a bit rubbish but I quite liked these.

I had to do a little tinkering to add some more black to the silhouettes. Film was Vista and souped by Asda.

One of these days I'm going to get decent 35mm and go to a decent lab...

Unfortunately multi-exposure makes no difference on negative film as it simply combines another brighter pass with the normal exposure e.g so on negative film the effect is reversed as the dark areas on the neg represent highlights.

It was more for creatively purposefully laying one image on top of another.

Following on from the original test shots of the Thornton Pickard Ruby Reflex ( see posting on page 231), here is the latest attempt:

The pier shot is excellent and that's some serious grain, I didn't think Tri-X was that grainy.

oops my bad.

well spotted....just re-checked and it's FP4 pushed to 400.

I also like the pier shot. Not sure how I feel about the grain though! I love fp4so much I'd never push it

Very Nice, love the grainyness of the Pier!

Very nice timeless feel, sort of 'Film Noir' but in colour!

Thank you Adrian, very kind of you to comment, I rather like the photo as well.

Well that's a stunner, great composition and lovely understated colours, beautiful indeed.

I had a roll of Acros left over from holidays so I decided to use it as a test roll in my new F75 :D It was also a good opportunity to try HC-110 for the first time (dilution B) for five and a half minutes. It's fair to say I think I have found a go to developer!

I wouldn't usually post five at a time but I'm so happy that the camera works excellently and I made a decent job of the developing for a change :)

Thanks for looking as always

Does this look underdeveloped? (The photo rather than the dog!)

I wasn't paying attention and tipped the developer (DDX) out at 9 minutes rather than the required 10 so I was rather expecting this to be more suitable for the "other" thread. Recognising the error I didn't tip the stop in until 10 minutes but I still expected far worse results. Fillum is FP4, dog is not mine.

Looks fine to me, 1 minute isn't going to make a whole deal of difference as there are so many potential variables in developing - Temperature, amount of agitation, dilution etc...

OK osh, if you're going to force us to look at those disgistingly wonderful pictures, can you please write a bit more about how you made them? Gear, filters, etc.

(PS, please don't stop!)

 Yes, certainly! Not much to say really, I was experimenting with Portra 400 to see what the dynamic range is like. I used the Mamiya 7 with 80mm lens and no filter and pointed the camera meter at the foreground and the sky and chose an exposure in between. I scanned the negative with my Epson v500 and set the points so that all the detail in the highlights and shadows would be included, and then brought out the detail in Lightroom (mainly curves, white balance and nd grad adjustments to try and balance the exposure). I must say that I'm quite impressed, especially given as I was shooting more or less towards the sun.

You can see some limitations in the sky, but perhaps that could be improved with better scanning technique...

I could have used an nd grad in the field too thinking about it - I'm sure just placing it halfway down would have been fine. The drawbacks would be less portability and hassle to meter (as the window is behind where the nd grad would be) and I don't have the right size adaptor so would need to use blu-tack which could be dodgy when walking around. Having said that I have been trying out the mamiya with an nd grad today (with velvia and sekonic meter) so am very interested to see how the pictures turn out - lots of conflicting views on the net on nd grads and rangefinders...

Hope that helps!

Don't forget that, when scanning, the software often will auto exposure and sometimes compensate for underdeveloped negatives.

B&W film is reasonably durable though.

Taken from the square in Altea old town looking towards Albir, you can see Benidorm on the RH sky line.

Really nice richard. is that provia?

Thanks Mel,

You may be little surprised, but that was taken on my Fuji 4000 ix SL APS camera with Nexia Asa 200 film and the original size scan has so much more tonal quality.:)

Bit of a contrast to our current weather and a quick grab shot during a dog walk on the beach early June. Are we having fun yet;
