Show us yer film shots then!

You asked for it Paul...

Osh shoots Ponies... I get this...

This pebbly beachy bit of Funchal doesn't exist anymore, it's buried under several metres of crap that tore through this lovely city during the February 2010 landslide. :(

Right, I'll quit spamming this thread now! At least until I find another more embarrassing shot of Hooley to upload...

Remind me never to give you free film developing again :p

Not sure if I've posted this before, but I was going thru' my jpgs and think the colours work but might need some cows or a farmers tractor on the horizon to focus on something....but wait didn't microsoft produce something similar for win XP.

Not unless your photo constantly crashes. As I remember it, their screen was solid blue most of the time wasn't it?

Nah, that one was only rarely seen. This was the normal desktop:

 I've just got the joke

Was it worth the wait? :coat:

Re the picture, I actually think a subject might spoil it, because it's the colours and banding that make it, so you wouldn't want that broken up.

Thanks...true what you say, to me it's just a pleasant shot with no wow factor...maybe I should put it in a CC thread and let them tear it apart ;)

Garden gate. Not quite punchy enough? I think I need to learn how to use Photoshop!

Maybe a little more contrast, but its still a good shot.

I use Elements 11 and find it easy to use and plenty enough for my needs. I used the full version at college a few years ago and its just too much to learn.

Fabulously sharp those Fujinon lenses Erik, weird and wonderful shots mate.

A couple from the Yash 124g on Kodak Ektar

I'm liking this Yash more and more. Its very light, focusing is easy through the bright finder and the lens is very sharp.

Very nice shots Andy. Well composed and exposed, and as you say, very sharp. The colours look great too - I must try some Ektar again!

One of the shots from my dad's Olympus OM-10, on Jessops everyday 200 film (very old, still in the camera when I received it). Shot at a country fair, great results I think. The lens (50mm bought from someone on this forum!) is pin-sharp. Scanned on a Nikon Coolscan IV.

First two are pretty good but I'm loving the third shot.

Lovely set RJ. Have you processed/filtered those at all? They have a really nice soft feel to them.

I agree with the comments above - lovely look to the pictures. How do you find Pro 400H in comparison to Portra?

Thanks for the kind words. :)

I've been trying to get this soft, filmy look to my photos for a while and no amount of post processing was ever doing it, so I resorted to trying to achieve it 'in camera' as it were by changing how I was shooting.

The changes I made were to significantly overexpose the film (set my light meter to 100 and metered for the shadows) and I went seeking the good evening light (helped by the nice weather).

After that it was just curves/colour adjustment and dust cleaning after the scan.

Thanks, Osh.

Hmmm... now that is a good question and I'm still not sure which film I prefer. In fact, I shot Portra 400 on a different night to try to compare them. What do you folks think about the Portra below to the 400H above?

^^ If I am honest, I like both of them. The Porta is more subtle though, so if I had to decide I would swing towards the Fuji film as I really like the warmth of it. Thanks for the info on how you achieved it, I think I will give that a go this weekend

My, ahem, disqualified, entry to this months POTY comp

Thanks for the feedback and I agree the Fuji does look warmer.

I go back and forth to which one I prefer, but they both produce great skin tones and have fantastic dynamic range, so they both cover two of the major things that I look for.

The Portra is probably more versatile, however, as the light gets even lower (or even brighter as well), but I find the 400H in 120 easier to load and unload (it seems trivial, but I really like the little tab in the spool and the easy-end seal on Fuji films).

Wow, look how dark those clouds are. What camera did you use for this photo?

Why was it disqualified, if you don't mind my asking?

I have yet to try out either film! I have seen some good results from the Fuji from other people, so need to pick some up! I have only shot with the Porta 160, and liked it.

I used a Pentax ME Super with 28mm lens, Lee filters and some Velvia.

I made an admission when submitting it to adjusting the contrast to try and negate a problem with scanning (the only way I can describe it is as slightly fogged) for a no PP round.
:bonk:

One from the Fuji, Acros 100 pushed to 200, devved in Rodinal

Not too sure about this, not even sure why i took it to be honest, probably more of a test shot.

Yeah, Portra 160 is a good film as well and has a nice colour palette.

That's tough about the no pp for film photos, as the scanning stage is far from a perfect process.

It's not "no PP for film photos" its "No PP" film or digital.

(in fairness, it's also been clearly billed as NO PP since last December, and if the rules sated NO PP, personally, i'd be making sure it was straight out of camera (probably from a Digital Camera, shooting in JPG) - this doesn't mean I agree with the whole No PP by the way - my personal (non-staff) opinion is that its a bloody stupid rule, but it's what the very generous sponsor wished for, and, I suppose if anyone wants a PP allowed competition next year and wishes to stump up a couple of hundred quids worth of prizes each month, it'd certainly be considered by the powers that be!)
