Love this one.

Thanks.

I have just realised today that my keepers percentage using film is probably 3 TIMES what it is with digital !! I think I should take as long thinking about digital shots and setting them up as film.

I just love black and white film and could have posted 25 pics in last 3 days, just love it. I am really looking forwards to developing my own from the end of the month.

Same here. I think Digital has spoiled us a bit to much. :)

What's your scanning setup? You do seem to get some very nice results.

Were the portraits you posted up the page also shot on the same Kodak BW400?

For some reason it wont let me post images from flickr, am I missing something or has something changed?

You inadvertently put in the URL of the Flickr photo page instead of the image you're trying to show.

The key bit you need is the one ending in .jpg

[ img ]http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4081/4875659862_38a44d85be.jpg[ /img ]

without the extra spaces in the tags.

However, Flickr has just added a BBCode option to do the heavy lifting for you. Go to the [i]Share This[/i] menu above your photo, click [i]Grab the HTML[/i] and the [i]BBCode[/i] radio button.

You can then just copy and paste the contents of the box, which will produce the code for posting the image into a forum, together with a link back to your Flickr photo page.

That's a superb photo Rob. Are those the actual tones/colours in the scene or have you photoshopped the selective colour? Excuse the ignorance but I've not heard or seen that building before so no idea what it looks like in the flesh.

I'll have to admit to a small tweak to the perspective in Lightroom 3 to get the verticals upright. It was close, but I do like these things just-so :)

Apart from a little High-Pass sharpening in Photoshop, everything else is straight from the scan.

The building was one of Mitterand's Grands Projets for the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution in 1989. It's clad in Carrara marble, which is naturally quite white.

I pay Tescos 99p to develop them and then another £1.97 to scan them for me onto disc :)

Both sets were Kodak BW400 pro film and I am just using up the last of it before I switch to Ilford and develop them myself. Not sure what I am going to do about the scanning though  Might ask Tesco how much they will charge to scan my film :) I will get a scanner later but saving for a 70-200 at the moment.

EDIT: I did ask the lad behind the desk to scan them at maximum resolution and to set the scanner to scan as black and white.

Interesting to know. I've never used monochrome C41 up to this point, though I do have a roll of 120 Ilford XP2 that I bought a week or so ago. Maybe I'll give the Kodak a shot too.

I can't speak with accuracy for Tesco, but ISTR with my experience at Snappy Snaps that the scanner is built into the developing machine and relies on it being part of a processing job and on a continuous roll - once it emerged, and especially once cut, they had to go to more traditional scanning methods which were a lot more expensive.

Tescos actually have a separate computer for scanning which is fitted with a Nikon scanner (it takes up two drive bays in the front of the computer). They feed the negs in in strips of 4/5 negs so technically they could do it. Not sure if they would do. It is vastly cheaper than a lot of these companies that specialise in it though.

I did look at buying a scanner and there is a thread about the diabolical film scanner that I got (It was a ??? 7600) and cost about £250. Absolutely rubbish and I actually got better results scanning a 6x4 colour print from Tescos using a £50 scanner than I did using the negative in the specialist scanner!!

Now that I am starting to do my own developing I might invest in a Nikon or Epson scanner BUT I need the 70-200 first :)

The film you mention is not C41 though....

Ilford do a B&W C41 which is slightly better than the Kodak but not much in it and I got the Kodak on special offer from 7 day shop for £2.30 a roll when I bought 10. Still have about 4 rolls left so will use them up over the next few weeks till I can get the chemicals and new films.

XP2 Super 400? It says C41 on the box.

I remember XP1 being launched to much hoo-ha in the early 80s. :)

Ignore me, I realised I had the two film types mixed up after I had posted that :bang:

Careful Daz he doesn't need any encouragement! Or are you trying to marry her off so you can turn her room into a darkroom?

I wouldn't worry about David, I'd worry about Arkady, he likes models with freckles.:D
