This is one of my fav shots from my very first 335mm b&w film - it did win me some money a long long time ago

1. My friend rode down to see me and I wanted to show off my new camera. Horse wanted a first look though.



At college they have reawaken my interest in film photography again and even let me borrow the medium format camera

You'll have to fight me for it :boxer:, seriously though its great camera to use and find my Canon DSLR being left behind at home more and more, got a couple of films that I took over the last two weeks in the Loire Valley in France that I have to get developed..........so stay tuned

My 1st post :)

Just acquired one of these off my sister who had it for her photography degree back in the day. About half way through the first roll of film. Going to Chester Zoo at weekend so will hopefully finish it off and post the best results / ask for advise etc

There really is something fabulous about film photography now that we are in a digital age. Just from seeing a few shots in this thread I am now going to keep my eye out for an old cheap film camera, the worse it is, the better! :)

Do you all get your pics developed in a shop and then scan them in?
I do know how to develop black and white film (learnt at college) but I don't have the space nor patience to set up a darkroom.
 
i get my colour done in local shop and b&w in college. i then scan both at home but think my new college has better scanner, if so, il be using that!
 
To answer a couple of questions asked about the pics I (finally) posted:

They are all taken using film cameras - an Olympus OM10 35mm camera and a Mamiya Medium format camera. I much prefer black and white as I can process the prints myself.

The pic of my Uncle - I was trying to capture/recreate those russian worker images. There is a Brian Griffiths image - Leon - from the St Pancras workers collection that I love and I was trying to do my own thing after being uinspired by that. The dynamic angle of looking up at someone I was kneeling down on the floor. Also that part of my family are big smokers and so I wanted to capture them doing something that might finally disappear.

The image of your Uncle is very good, if your interested in Russian Worker images look up a chap called Alexander Rodchenko.
 
Here are a few from a recent trip to the Lake District. Nos. 1 and 2 were taken on Fuji Superia 200 with an Olympus Mju ii; 3 and 4 were taken on the awesome Kodak Ektar 100 with a Canon EOS 30V and 28-105mm USM Mkii (although there is a possibility that No. 4 was taken with the 17-40mm). All were scanned on an Epson V500, with levels adjustment and sharpening being done in Elements 6.
I'm still very much at the bottom of the scanning/PP learning curve, but thanks to Scott Kelby's Elements book and a LOT of trial and error, I think I'm finally getting to grips with it.

I like 1&4. Does the Scott Kelby book cover scanning? I wasn't aware of that. It's something I should probably gen up on it if I'm to continue with film long term.
 
Look excellent shots but can't see them properly on my monitor unless I turn the brightness way up.

Thanks for looking. Unfortunately the Scott Kelby book doesn't cover scanning, but I've found it very useful just for getting my head around how to get the image looking "right". One of the major improvements to my scanned images was to switch off all sharpening in the scanner, and to stop using the grain "reduction" tools; they just seemed to increase the amount of noise. One great tip I got from the book was that I could use Camera Raw in Elements on scanned TIFFs-the Vibrance and Clarity sliders are great :thumbs:

@Venomator: Thanks for the compliments! The Lake District is my favourite place in this country, but usually there aren't any views to be had when I'm up there thanks to the weather. On shot 4 I thought I'd better have some foreground interest as it was too hazy for for anything in the distance to work on its own. I'll be there again in 3 weeks (3 days in Buttermere) and I can't wait!

Thanks - it's a bit nice, isn't it :)

Shot with Canon EOS-3, 28-105mm 1:3.5-4.5 USM II lens (was taken at under 70mm - I remember because it was as long as I could go and stll get f4.0) and taken on Ilford HP5+ @ 400 ISO. Processed at home in ID11, and scanned using a lousy horrible £40 USB scanner which crashed every other image.

Still - for that one, it's worth it, I reckon!
 
Some shots from the Notting Hill Carnival from me - taken on the Bronica SQ-Ai and Velvia 50. A little dark, but thats probably because I was shooting meter-less and handheld :cool:

Ekimeno - maybe a little dark, but I reckon the strong colour saturation you've got here kind of captures the colourful nature of the Carnival - once again another excellent set :)
 
Hi, as I said I would in my first post last week, below are a couple of shots taken from the first roll of film I have taken since "borrowing" my sister's 15 year old Canon 1000fn. I am a photography novice to be fair so any advise at all would be appreciated. I also have a Lumix LX3 but obviously what that give in wide angle, it lacks in zoom and bokeh etc


I am concerned about a couple of red lines right through all the prints from this roll. Does anyone have any ideas what may have caused this? Camera? Developing process? Film being old?

Both taken at Chester Zoo with Canon 1000fn and 70-300 lens. Can't remember the make of film. Cheap one I think at 400 speed.

Are they scans from negs or scans from prints ?
Did you do them or a lab, and which lab ?

Nice pics btw...:)

The scans are from prints. I'm not expecting good quality scans at the moment as I'm just using the flatbed printer/scanner I have in the office at home. I may invest in one of the neg scanners recommended on here though if I decide to get more into it as getting them developed at Jessops ain't cheap :gag:

So, yeah the lines are on the prints from Jessops.

Any ideas?

There is a thread somewhere sussing out cheap prices/places....get the film just dev is 99p at Tesco, if you want a CD it's another 99p done in 30mins to 1 hr. Morrisons dev and print 24 6X4" for about £2.40 with a 2 day wait, also Asda do dev and print about £3 wait of 2 days.
Tesco's have shot themselves in the foot with prints as they are expensive.
 
Thanks, yeah I've seen those threads. Like I said, I may get a V700 at some point and do the 99p developing thing.

I didn't know it was just another 99p for the CD though. I'll probably try that avenue next, so thanks :)

Jessops. was £8 yesterday but that was because I wanted them back in an hour so it's my own fault for paying so much. Got a free film though :|
