I definitely find that there's a difference in the image quality when I scan B&W "shiny side up" or "matt side up" - I've put i down to the film profiles that Silverfast SE uses when scanning negatives. Again, similar to Javier's experience, the "wrong way" seems to make the neg's more contrasty. I think I need to invest in one of those upgraded 120 film carriers for the 8800F, because if the film is not totally flat, I need to scan it "belly up" to avoid the negs touching the glass bed and causing newtons rings. Sometimes this means that the neg's get scanned the wrong way up, and if I was going for a nice gentle shot, the additional gritty contrast makes me :bang:.

Nice shots. Looks like the scanner is working good to me.

Although joined some time ago I have only just got round to scanning my film & slide pictures. I came across this set taken back in 2007 at Jungfraubahn in Switzerland whilst on holiday. At the time I had to use my Olympus OM 10 camera body, as my Olympus OM4 Ti was in being repaired. All shots taken with Fuji Velvia 100 positive using Olympus OM 28mm F2.8, with a circular polarizer attached.

Hope they are up to standard

Certainly are. Love the first one. Maybe too much blue in the snow on the last.

They're bigger on flickr but show too many defects relating to poor scanning rather than anything else so don't see the need to share them any bigger than this size. All shot on Fuji Neopan400 with a Bronica SQA and a 250mm lens, probably couldn't have found anything less suitable (other than the 500mm which is monster when you're bobbing around in the back of a small boat) but I love using that camera and sometimes you just have to make do with the tools that you've got.

You'll see a line down the RH third running from top to bottom, that's a fault with the scanner not the negative. It's easy enough to clone in the bland areas but not where it goes through the trees/board/people/buildings etc.

That first ones great, what have you done with the last one.

we don't get enough action shots in this thread, m/f action is unheard of...

Well this shot might be boring for you guys but exciting for me:- My grandson on a dull day with a Kiron 80-200 f4 zoom and Kodak ultra 400, enhanced in Photoshop otherwise it would be cr*p.

A couple more from me, unfortunately they are all from the wee XA3. Have 4 rolls of HP5 waiting to dev, but being unemployed means I can't afford dev or fix :(

Love this image. It is rare that I like telephone wires in an image and this is one of those rare occasions. Well done and processed!

Glad you like the first John but what's wrong with the last in your opinion? Bad scan? Bad processing? Bad photo? All of the above?

I've never done macro before also i've never really had to properly manual focus before and neither of them are easy, really struggled.
I apologise for the terrible scans, Asda didn't do a good job!

Both taken using a Minolta x-300, jessops extension tubes of varying lengths and combinations and a minolta 50mm lens, both at f22 using nothing but the suns rays! film is crappy jessops 400 which is out of date by about 2 months!

hope you like, im quite pleased but alot of my shots didnt come out, not sure if its a camera problem or me, either way im not sure if i have the patience to do macro again!

Kev, you're gonna have to scan us some prints of those shots. Never known someone so dedicated to the cause of using inappopriate cameras for a job ;)
Nice results, I'd be well chuffed with those.

I dunno, he doesn't look right, the picture overall is shorter on contrast compared with the others, the figure looks like he was underexposed but selectively lightened....I could be wrong, maybe he's just getting some direct sun and washing out, but no sun in the other two.

I suppose I'd better post some film shots as I've been making comments elsewhere in F&C :)

my thoughts are that the the last one the skier looks sort of i dunno how to describe it, superimposed painted on!

As in "oversharpened" ?

I think you've hit the nail on the head there Arthur, or at least partially. I'm not much cop at sharpening and I think I have probably overdone it on this one.

Guilty as charged your honour. Next up, medium format motorsports;)

I sort of get what you mean but can't pin point the exact point where it went wrong. If I remember rightly it was fairly overcast so that light was flat and then the neg came out underexposed so it looked really flat. I changed the levels to darken the wetsuit but that made the skin a bit dark so lightened that then I burned in the sky and the sea a bit. PP really isn't my strong point and I really must start metering Neopan400 @200 because when I do it @400 they always lack shadow detail.

OK folks heres a few from my first roll through my Ensign Selfix 16-20 with a Rosstar f4.5 lens. Starting to enjoy medium format if only I could remember to wind it on so I don't get so many double exposures.

Not brilliant shots but it was a test roll so I'm quite happy.

Ok, here's a few more shots from me. A bit more actiony maybe, but not on medium format.

Ok, maybe Morris dancers don't count as "action"
(Taken on Agfa Precisa 100 slide film - my favourite slide film for general shooting, shame no 120 available - using a Nikon F801)

Shot on Fuji Pro800Z - Tesco processed! - at a gig I went to on my now deceased Yashica M2 rangefinder.

And another from the same gig, one of my favourite shots from the night.

Wow........that's the wackiest barrel rolly bokeh I've seen in a while.

:)

I know its very strange and I dont know what caused it, hasn't happened on any of the others

Thank you very much! :)

That's not a term I've some across before, what is it?

This means rather than being uniform circles, the bokeh is elliptical and looks like it's rotating around a centre point (AKA swirly bokeh). famous with lenses such as the Helios.

Also referred to as spinning bokeh... where the out of focus background appears to be rotating - some stuff on it here

Thanks guys! Weird effect, it gives an odd sense of movement to some of the example photos at that link.
