Show me your posh watches

I know its all relative and am not commenting against anyone here, and there are some seriously gorgeous watches on here......... but I ummed and ahhed about buying my £450 tag from an outlet centre. In Norwich the other day, a rolex in a Jewellers window, £21,000. What does that do that my tag doesn't, or as someone else pointed out my mobile phone.

And I'll have £20 to a penny, in the morning my phone will have changed itself automatically.

However, I thnk with a serious windfall, I'd be buying some very nice watches up.

Not posh or particularly expensive but I like it. ;)

I have that watch with the bracelet rather than the strap. Not the most functional chrono but very different styling and hard to find now.

I know what you mean :D and the same is true of cameras too. Most people I know think I'm mad (I don't tell them how much stuff costs) when you can get a perfectly good camera from ASDA for £60 and anyway why can't I use my phone?

Ok, watches are like cars, there are differant levels

please note this is based on your price bracket as there are far better watches than these, but some would cost as much as a car or even a house

if it was my £3k i would be looking at

1, Breitling (My fave I wear a Breitling Chronomat Special Edition)
2, Rolex ( very few at this price plus they go up Approx 10% on 1/11/11)
3, Omega (A bit dear for what they are IMO)
4, Panari (The nuts if a little big)
5, i will add Cartier although im not a fan

then you could consider

Tag Heuer, Bell and Ross, Ebel or Longines. However these are considered to be a 2nd tier watch compared to the above

That said if your going to keep it I would just pick the one that I like

I can get you any of these for 50 bucks in Vietnam:D.

What the hell happened to Casio in this list. My first Casio, when I was 11ish, lasted a year or so and endured, climbing walls, escaping through back yards, being stomped on (whilst on my wrist), borrowed by a mate...............! chewed on by my sis, confiscated by my drunk dad, and lovingly offered to be replaced, by my mum, when the last two digital digits of time failed after a long bath. The light still worked though:D I even remember it had the date too. I used to always meet my mates a day earlier:lol:

Hi,

here's mine showing 9am

Mike.

My emergency does something you couldn't get in a £50 watch...

Hopefully never going to need to use it though ;)

Can't find the picture of my watch drawer at the moment, but this morning is one of two a year I don't particularly like. I've got about 35 watches to adjust!

heard today that we 'may' consider BST all the time...i think...or was it GMT...or was it EU time

Marcel:

Lame.

You could have at least got the display to read exactly as the same as the argos catalogue from about 1981... for maximum cheese factor!

He's just showing off anyway. ;)

Another vote for Breitling..

Something else you need to consider ongoing with 'posh watches'..

2. If you buy a motion powered watch (can't remember the term), they require servicing every 5 or so years at cost of £300+ and perhaps a lot more.

My Dad's (now my) Rolex is at the servicing place at the moment and will cost me about £700 when it comes back. That does include a new glass though but not a strap - that would be another £700 or so...

I had a Breitling Navitimer (mechanical movement) which was as delicate as a diva's ego. Every little knock meant a £400 trip back to Breitling :(
To cut a long story short, it was stolen and replaced by a Breitling Aerospace Professional. It's a superb watch, weighs next to nothing as it's all titanium including the bracelet and is therefore completely unmarked after several years of continuous wear as is the sapphire crystal. It's accurate to better than one second per month and the battery lasts about three to four years. The last one cost £75. For this they reseal and pressure test it (100M) before return. It's worth letting them do it for just that. A friend thought he'd save a few quid and changed his own battery. Now every time the weather is cold and damp it mists up on the inside of the crystal.

I have a Rolex that I bought when I was 18, so it's getting on a bit now, rather like me. I don't wear it very often, and the servicing costs are hefty. I usually wear a Seiko that looks fine, and is accurate. That's all I need. I don't know anyone who wears an expensive watch.

i know but i would like the new movement as per the normal planet ocean and i just wanted to know if the chrono version had the same 'new' movement

i got a Boccia watch early this year. Never heard or seen them before, but i wanted something smart but that i could wear every day (instead of omega) without worrying about bashing it. It's a titanium body and very light.. the guy in the shop also said titanium is kind to skin and doesn't cause any reactions (not that i have any)... anyway.. it makes a red mark on my hand where the winder digs in :bang:

This is the culprit.

Well i have ordered the watch i liked :D thanks for all the help. I will post pics once it arrives (fingers crossed by tuesday :D)

just being nosey had a look at EJ website and most expensive they have is OMEGA £17,800!

Really? :suspect:

That's only a 44mm I believe

yes, but its 18mm thick with a huge curved glass, trust me as some one that sells AP, panari, TW Steel, Hublot and anything else u care to name

The Deepsea is a huge watch

That is sad. I know someone who has a George Daniels watch.

George Daniels also Designed the Co axial movement found in Omega planet Ocean, Seamaster Aqua Terra along with some others

Edit...i just clicked the link and it states that in much greater detail...should click first type later

Yes and yes, they're an American company, with a reputation for producing decent low to mid end watches.

aah ok then thanks, never heard of them. fancied treating myself this christmas :)

Some nice watches- I used to like watches and had a Breitling Aerospace which I managed to lose- runs in the family- my dad lost his Omega playing hockey (he'd put it in his tracksuit pocket) and the GA decided it wasn't covered. Neither was mine which was a bummer but hey ho I'm over it now:lol:. Prob have some old film pictures I could scan in somewhere I guess.

My first watch was the Knight Rider watch- think I got it through Look-in mag but so long ago hard to recall.

I haven't worn a watch for years now although now and again I toy with the idea of buying a Rolex GMT. Recently I have decided that I would now only buy a Citizen Eco- Skyhawk or Promaster thing as anything else would be wasted on me but even then I eventually talk myself back down to using the phone so accustomed to naked wrists I have become.

Oh to be young and impulsive again:lol:
